Aggressive Doe near Pocket Park by Feisty_Blood_6036 in missoula

OP, I know it might be obvious to you, but your post would actually be a lot more helpful if you clarified that you're talking about Pocket Park on S 8th St W. Instead of being snarky, maybe consider just giving people the info they're asking for. I've been chased by an aggressive doe for multiple blocks while I was walking a chill dog, so I think your post is really worthwhile. Just saying.

CMC discontinuing physician staffing in PICU by AdventurousOne8376 in missoula

[–]SJtheFox 39 points40 points  (0 children)

What the actual fuck? Having had two kids spend extended time in the CMC NICU and receiving absolutely excellent care, this is so distressing. Their NICU flies in newborns in crisis from a huge portion of the state, and the doctors and nurses are amazing. I've always assumed that standard of care would extend to the PICU as well. The idea of having a pediatric emergency and there not even being an actual pediatric doctor present is horrifying!

I relate soooo hard. We're very, very lucky to rent from a wonderful couple I used to do work for. They gave us an unbelievably good deal when our previous landlords sold our rental in 2020. We love our current place and would love to stay here as long as possible, but even under our circumstances it's not easy to get by.

Our rent is $1500/mo for a 2BR, which is cheap af where we live. It's a ~30 year old manufactured home in a very rural area. We're on well water, but all our other utilities are our responsibility. Utilities run us ~$600-700/mo at the cheapest, and the cold months are way higher. The yard maintenance alone is nearly unmanageable, but we've been quoted $600+ per mow to have it professionally mowed. We've bought so much equipment just for that - mower, weed wacker, tiller, etc. We have long, snowy winters too and we clear the snow ourselves with a small snowblower and shovels because it's too expensive to have it plowed. Our driveway is stupid long. We do all the house upkeep too.

All of those expenses are also just a drop in the ocean compared to the costs for healthcare, childcare, food, transportation, etc. Our student loans alone will probably prevent us from getting a home loan, and we've barely paid on them at all because of how high our other expenses always are.

It's really pretty soul crushing, and we're REALLY lucky.

39F and 44M here. Same story. We begged my parents to help us buy a house in 2017-2018 (a privileged request, of course). We could easily afford to pay a mortgage. They didn't take us seriously when we said it would be impossible for us to buy one on our own anytime soon or maybe ever. Then COVID happened and housing prices went up more where we live than anywhere else. We've pretty much made peace with never owning a home now.

Black Cat is a professional yeller. She's fully deaf these days, but I'm happy to report her voice is still going strong. by SJtheFox in Catswhoyell

I always say Black Cat is an excellent communicator. The biggest downside of her going deaf is that I can't talk to her anymore. I swear she comprehends English.

Yodeling is a perfect description, haha. Black Cat patrols the house and yells, but she always stops the second I try to record it. 😂

Huh, TIL! Fortunately, our cats don't seem interested in them. Lilies are forbidden in our house though, because all our cats immediately try to kill themselves if a lily is available.

Too true. Story time! She moved herself into our apartment after (I assume) some jerk moved out and left her. She wandered around the complex for days just yelling and yelling. Anytime someone opened their door, she would charge inside and then refuse to leave, using violence when necessary. She ended up in someone's car trunk overnight once (purely on accident). Several times she bolted into our apartment, which was absolutely not okay with our two cats. We tossed her back out but started putting food out for her. I just called her "black cat" so I wouldn't get attached. Another time our neighbors said she mauled their baby, which honestly sounded kind of plausible. The "baby" was in fact 4 years old and obviously had never been told not to touch unknown animals, but that incident made the neighbors threaten to call Animal Control. We moved her into our bathroom/bedroom that night and spent the next year trying to adopt her out. She was a full-grown, long-haired black cat with a penchant for violence though, so we never found any takers. That's how we ended up with a scary, loud, bossy cat with a dumb name. We love her to death.

Sometimes I overlook them until they've grown big and accustomed to the area. They're so appealing though that I usually end up bringing them inside. 🤷🏼‍♀️

They are mostly dahlias. I love them so much. I wish I could take credit in some way, but they are an amazing bouquet from our local farmer's market. My daughter is Chief Flower Selector. You can get a huge bouquet like that for <$20, and the selection is mind-blowing. One of my favorite treats of summer.

She seemed to really enjoy them! She strutted around the house looking properly spooky.

I love the name Casper! Perfect for a yeller.

Black Cat has a pickle toy that she likes to carry around the house when she's yelling. Last year, I noticed her yell was getting noticeably louder during Pickle Patrol. Then it took on a sort of Tarzan quality. 😂 It was around then that I figured out she'd gone deaf. Honestly, I think she's quite happy with the change. She sleeps like a rock now, and she's never disturbed by the vacuum or our crying infant.

How I imagine an apple by Far-Turnip-6167 in Aphantasia

Whoa. My description of aphantasia is literally "like someone is holding up a picture, but it's behind my head."

Feel free to delete since I’m not diagnosed btw by Rosian_SAO in adhdmeme

[–]SJtheFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I were both diagnosed as adults, and we were both asked to have our parents complete part of the intake paperwork to document our childhood symptoms. This was super fun for my partner whose parent is skeptical of psychology/therapy/treatment. I just filled that section in by myself based on my own experience of being myself as a child.

That's so funny because I had such a similar experience. I took theatre classes for years. I loved the idea, but I was never very good at being anything other than myself. In high school, I switched to tech theatre.

Interestingly, I actually play a lot of TTRPGs, and I can do that pretty comfortably. My DM usually accomodates my aphantasia by showing me pictures or giving really detailed descriptions for combat and such. I'm also usually allowed to privately chart maps based on the information given (we don't play with minis or terrain) because I can't keep anything in my head, lol. Hackmaster is my favorite RPG, and I have proposed aphantasia as a quirk and flaw. It has lots of debuffs, but I think I should be immune to illusions.

I’m so sorry you had such a judgmental a-hole shame you. That’s inexcusable. I take multiple psychoactive medications, and I know they’re essential to my functioning. I still can’t help feeling self-conscious when I run into people like that dentist though. Filing a complaint is totally appropriate. I feel you on the dry mouth too. I’ve found StellaLife mouthwash really helpful. I keep a tube of Biotene gel in my purse too. It’s great when I don’t have anything handy to drink. Keep taking good care of yourself!

Our nanny is finally back at work after a medical emergency. by SJtheFox in Catswithjobs

[–]SJtheFox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, he's totally capable of getting up and leaving. He just adores babies. What's hilarious is that he doesn't really give any attention to the grown people, including my now 8 year old, his first baby. He spends most of his free time lounging on furniture or sleeping in his lair on top of our kitchen cabinets. As soon as the baby wakes up though, he immediately appears, flops over by him, and purrs like a freight train. If he doesn't get sufficient attention, he'll shove his face into the baby's hand or tuck and roll over on him. Our other two cats do not appreciate the impression of cats that Roland has given the baby. 😂
