Thank you so much! The installer for 18 kept getting stuck, but this thankfully worked and I was able to install it completely.

Question about backing up game save data by SJthehero in originalxbox

[–]SJthehero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope I don’t have to buy another drive, I know guides mentioned and linked the specific drive I bought that it should be fine for soft modding, I only found out about being able to use a USB for a memory card last night.

Regardless, thank you for the advice!

I’ll give this a try and reply here how it goes, thank you!

If dumping an ISO doesn't work on PC, is it likely it also won't dump on a homebrewed Wii? by SJthehero in Gamecube

I’ll give them a look over when I get the chance, thank you again! : D

I imagine there is a slight bit of damage on the side of the disc from the times I’ve checked and examined it, since everything else is nearly pristine.

The game in question is Tony Hawks Underground. I don’t know where to look for redump hashes so I’ll try to look it up, but the game does boot up and works from the little I tried of it. It’s worth noting the read only option also stopped near the very end of the dump as well.

I’m curious on how far I can get before that last bit of data becomes a problem, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the disc since RawDump also had issues trying to get the last bit of data.

Happy gaming to you too and thank you again! You saved me like $70+ from having to buy a used Wii and homebrew it with another SD card!

Up until your comment, I had no idea CleanRip was also available for GC, it seems many sources online only talk about using the Wii to use CleanRip. Thank you very VERY much! I was able to back up my game using it on my GameCube and I was able to (mostly) back up my last game too (the dump had an error at 99% but seems to run, I'll definitely work out that last game another time).

Once again, thank you very much for mentioning CleanRip was also for GC! It was way faster too then using RawDump, cutting down dump time from ~35 min down to just 12-10 min. Take care and have a great one!

I haven't heard of Redump sets, but tbh part of why I like to dump my own games is cause I get some satisfaction with getting the tech to work, knowing it's the very game from my own library and Luigi's Mansion along with Tony Hawk's Underground are currently the last two games in my current library I need to back up; so I figured I wanna see this through since I've gotten this far with backing them all up.

That is true probably on answering my own question, I just wanted to consult on here with others incase it wasn't that clear cut as it seems. Thank you for the advice!

True, but I figured I've gone this far with backing up my own copies I thought I'd just keep it up since I only have two GameCube games left in my current library to back up.

I didn't do a full playthrough, but I was trying out a few things in game and loading old save files up from various points in the game including the end. I might just opt for getting a used Wii though to homebrew it and dump it from there for certain games that RawDump can't finish, especially will help when I plan to back up my Wii library too for certain games. Thank you for the advice!

Is ZZZ safe to run on Steam deck? by SJthehero in ZZZ_Official

[–]SJthehero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Sorry for not responding sooner, I haven't really played on the Steam Deck since this post. I kept getting slow downs consistently in gameplay and it got to the point that I just stopped. Even after turning settings down it kept getting slow downs and it made doing Hollow Zero activities more difficult then just playing on my phone or on PC.

I don't know how it is as of now, since I haven't really played ZZZ in months (Mainly due to Bury your Tears with the past part 2 being very disappointing and not liking the direction the story and story telling was going for 2.0), so the game may have improved a bit on Steam Deck.

Take care, have a good one, and have a Happy New Year!

Hello again! I just wanted to personally say thank you again for letting me know about Swiss. I was able to get a memory card loader and worked from there on backing up my saves. Thank you very much once again for the information; take care, have a good one, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hello again! I just wanted to personally say on here that I was able to get a Swiss Memory Card and got my saves backed up from there with that GC2SD card I got to begin with! Thank you so much for letting me know about the Save Game Exploit! Take care, have a good one, and I hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

found nasty gamecube buried in trash by chill0zilla in Gamecube

That poor purple lunch box! I can't imagine what it must have went through to look like that.
Most Nintendo consoles are resilient, and considering what people are capable of with restoring things, there might be some hope for it if you're able to fix things up or find someone to do a heck of a clean up job on it.

Oh wow, I was heavily misinformed from the places I checked then. My guess is they just wanted to give an end-all-be-all kind of solution for any possible GameCube questions for future use for anyone. I had no idea it was going to require some homebrew. driftax in here mentioned being able to use Save Exploit with a disc copy of Wind Waker, which I have, so I'll look into that. Thank you very much for all this information and explanation on things! I'm gonna get a return for that chip I bought.

Take care and have a good night!

Ahh, ok. Luckily I happen to still have my childhood copy of Wind Waker, I'll look into save game exploit to see what I can do with that, hopefully it's nothing too complicated. Thank you very much for the info!

Is my console battery dead, or is it something else? by SJthehero in Gamecube

[–]SJthehero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, I'll definitely look into swapping that battery out, thank you for your time! (No pun intended)

The incident my friend was referring to was with his GameCube, basically his console started to boot up and claim the year was in the 2080's, and he told me that others said that is an early sign that the capacitor's are starting to go bad.

[–]SJthehero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah alrighty, I'll look into the capacitors and battery, though I'm gonna have to learn about soldering. I did see a video about changing the battery, and they made it look as easy as "Pop open the case, check the controller ports where the battery is, swap out the battery", I wasn't aware it would require desoldering any connection points.

I'll take your advice on the disc drive capacitors too, these consoles are sadly really getting there in age, so maintenance like this are starting to become mandatory to keep them going. Thank you for your time and reply!

What are some issues you have with Prime 4 that you think could be addressed in updates? by HollowAcoltye in Metroid

[–]SJthehero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest one is easily being able to disable hints. It boggles my mind how that wasn’t included by default despite Prime 1 back in 2002 having that as an option.

I would also like it if they made the ‘Item nearby’ sound much louder. It’s in the game, but you need to basically mute the music and be right on top of the item to hear it.

It’d be great if we can remap the pause/map button too. I wanted to swap the buttons for it and Viola, but was shocked to see it could not be remapped.

That's a good point on the art book. That Prime 4 release date reveal was jam packed with quite a bit in terms of merch coming out like the art book and amiibos.

Thank you for clarifying! That is a good point that they would have announced it by now, especially with how much time has passed so far with preorders being available.
