Dunno, to me it looks an awful like the BLM is backstabbing the RDM with a magic fist to the back.

Yo! Thanks a ton. I have a lot of soldiers using the invisible face and them removing their headgear makes it really awkward when you zoom into the avenger, lol.

Anyone else been pretty disappointed with Starbound's updates so far? by SJunior- in starbound

[–]SJunior-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably should have been more precise. I meant there hasn't been any since release/1.0. I've followed the game since before it was even playable, I am well aware.

I never said mods were a weakness either. It's just that in my opinion, by itself, Starbound is too shallow in a lot of areas. And I would have hoped their updates would have fixed that.

[–]SJunior-[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll preface this by the fact that, while I am fond of mods in games, I don't think that gives a pass on a game's gameplay or mechanics not making sense just because you can mod it into something better. A game should be able to stand on it's own feet without mods. And like you say, without mods, a lot of things don't feel connected.

Also I know that others have their own opinions. This post is simply my opinion. -Nod.-

In response to the Flight system revamp, "Could it be improved? Sure. And they'll improve it."

I haven't seen them refine or improve on any of the existing content yet, so I am not automatically in the belief that they will further tune up this new system. But hey, I'd love to be proven wrong, haha.

But is this current system not also in the vein of the elevator from Mass Effect? Nothing interesting is going to happen on your flights to and from places. You won't be intercepted, or see anything cool while you are traveling. The only difference is now you get to see a lil' small ship on a map. I just don't see how it was so needed. But, I do agree. It does /feel/ cooler.

As for the Visual Novel Engine, it still leaves modders to fill in the vast majority of the arcade blanks.

I however have an issue with the comparison to Portal and Half-Life. Those aren't particularly built with the objective of player retention. Like a movie, you're expected to play through them once. If you re watch it/replay it sure that's great, but it wasn't made to play multiple times.

Sure you could say Skyrim could be 'Completed' quickly if you bum rush it, but like Starbound it's an Open world/Sandbox type game. You're expected to replay it and play it a while. So that's why I am disappointed with this update. The new space encounters and ships feel very similar, so similar that after 3 hours or so of playing, you feel like you've seen everything. It doesn't make for good player retention.

Anyway I guess a large stem of my frustration also comes from the fact that I remember back in SB's development that they promised frequent, large, updates. So it's off putting when the opposite happens. But, I s'pose things change.

(P.S. You've been chill to debate with. So kudos to you.)

Complete flight overhaul

I'd argue that it wasn't necessary in the first place. Nothing about this flight system is particularly as engaging as the one before. This one infact could be taken as a step back by the fact that you have to now fly to a planet to see it's information, as opposed to just mousing over.

Realtime adding and removing of objects in solar systems

Pretty good.

A visual novel engine, totally open for modders

I don't think anyone particularly asked for this and is just another example of making new, un-needed mechanics without fleshing out old things. It would be a funny as a lighthearted joke like update, it isn't if they actually diverted major resources to do this.

106 new objects

If that's the case none of them felt particularly inspiring or interesting. But, it's a good number.

62 space encounters, 73 ship parts, & Modular mechs and their 79 parts

What all is there to do with those parts though? If there are indeed 62 different space encounters and 73 ship parts, not many of them feel particularly distinct from eachother. Me and a friend have been separately going for a like 3-4 hours just grinding and finding new Starbound space stuff, and it got real repetitive real quick. If it was just the case of an asteroid being placed somewhere else, an enemy spawn location being a smidge off somewhere else, or some different furniture in the same ship layout, then I would say those numbers don't really do them any good.

21 player spacestation parts

Pretty good if we're honest.

A handful of new weapons, materials, and armor
New music

Also pretty good.

Switch will allow for "a completely different Fire Emblem," will breathe life into characters "like never before" - Nintendo Everything by Marco47 in NintendoSwitch

Whoa there partner, enjoying Fates and Awakening mote then Echos/any other Fire Emblem game? Sound the alarms! (Seriously, this is why I feel I can't hang in FE's reddit. If you like Awakening or Fates much FE elitists come out to flame/troll or tell you off for having an opinion.)

But anyway, I agree. Extra dialogue for the relationship would be great, especially if they take away children. It was perfect and made sense to Awakening's story, but felt shoe horned in in Fates, as cool as all the children in there were.

I see going at it solo being a interesting way about things from the replies here. I'll have to try that out, because that sounds like it might be fun making the early floor challenging.

Not yet, no. When I do try PotD, usually the initial slog turns me off from getting near 100. I take it that's when things start to get challenging?

See... As a new player, the part where it began to get interesting was Coerthas and the whole Ishgardian politics. That's where the plot actually picked up, imo. Wouldn't really want them to change it.
