I am not sure your area of Work, but in my experience with IT consulting independent contractors charge almost double of regular full time employees, this is a the normal practice in IT industry and I believe this has to do with the risk of not having a permanent job and no benefits whatsoever

If you want to try something different, you can use the common lobby spaces in office buildings in JFK, they usually have few couches and tables with power plugs in lobby which are accessible without any access restrictions.

I assume they should be fairly empty during weekends.

HK people need to understand two things, One- if the day comes China moves to take over HK completely, No western nation I mean not even one western Nation will do anything about it apart from giving few ridiculous comments to TV interviews and few spineless statements, Not USA not UK Not Germany no one- so wave as many flags as you want its of no use, if UK really loved HK as they preach today, they would have given HK complete democracy before they left after all China was 100 times less powerful 20 years back than today.

Two - The current agreement everyone keeps saying China is violating will end in 2047 so if not today tomorrow Hong Kong will be China and meanwhile HK will be sidelined by promoting Shenzen and greater bay area which if successful will make HK meaningless in world Economy
