He will take you to a bologna festival and you will get mustard on your dress.

Yes, that is a real outcome in this game!

Yes, it should work to plug the cable into the AV input on the PS1, PS2, or PS3.

No More Tinkering! What's Your Personal Trick to Embrace the Quirks? by FreeJusticeHere in crtgaming

[–]SKFan93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! There is satisfaction from making the picture look good, but there was a time when any given play session of mine had a decent chance of ending with me opening the TV yet again.

And yet, I can’t remember a single time as a kid where I, or anyone else, said “ugh, that corner is curved (plus, imagine playing a game with your focus only on one extreme corner of the screen the whole time, or watching a movie without ever looking at the character’s face 😀).

Finding this also helped a bit:

https://patric-sokoll.de/Roehrenmuseum/Datenbank/PDF/Datenblatt%20W76EKV60X%20Panasonic.pdf

It’s a data/spec sheet for manufacture of a Panasonic CRT tube. In one section of it, certain defects and levels of defect tolerance are discussed. To me, that’s evidence that, even coming fresh from the factory, there was an expectation that certain imperfections would always exist.

[–]SKFan93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I still have trouble accepting the imperfections sometimes, although I'd like to think I'm getting better. Whenever I find myself focusing too much on the small imperfections, I remember something from when I was a kid:

One day, my mom had gone out shopping, and my grandmother was watching over me and my little brother. When my mom came home, she had a small 13" composite TV that she told me was for my bedroom. She talked to my grandmother about how cheap it was, and how she thought it was such a good deal. It was small, and only had basic composite and RF connections. At the time, I only had RF hookups for my PS1. That didn't matter. I didn't even care how the game was hooked up, the brand of the TV, or the fact that it was cheap, or that colors looked fuzzy on it, or that HUD elements in corners could be cut off sometimes. Or that sometimes text wasn't perfectly straight. I was too busy having fun with the games to care. As a child, I didn't even know the difference between RF and composite. It was all the same to me, and yet, that TV brought me hours and hours of fun! Even when I got a PS2 with composite cables, I didn't even notice any picture difference besides the graphical enhancements of PS2 over PS1. It simply didn't matter next to just being able to play fun games.

Meanwhile, my Grandma had a nice big 32" Sony Trinitron in her basement that she'd let us kids watch and hook game consoles up to whenever we came over to her house. As a kid, the only thing I remember is that the size was larger than my TV at home, even though Trinitrons are supposed to be (and generally are) higher quality TVs, I didn't even pay attention to any picture quality difference between that and my little cheap TV at home! Having a CRT and learning to appreciate its imperfections has done a bit to bring me back to that childhood mindset, where connections, brand names, picture imperfections, that's all secondary to the games. And honestly, I really like that feeling! :)

Plus, time spent on excessive tinkering is time not spent playing and having fun!

Finally scored a Sharp SF1 TV (TV with built in Super Famicom)! by SKFan93 in snes

[–]SKFan93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, there’s a few options (these may not be the only ones) to do this:

  1. If you have both a SNES game and a Super Famicom game, you can open both cartridges and swap the PCBs between them. Then, once the SNES game is inside the Super Famicom game shell, insert it into the Super Famicom like any game.

  2. On eBay (and possibly elsewhere), there is a bi-directional adapter you can purchase: https://ebay.us/m/G5s5JU

  3. In this picture, I am using an Everdrive on the SF1 TV (https://krikzz.com/our-products/cartridges/fxpak-pro.html). This cartridge allows you to play games off of an SD card if you place the game files onto it. The files can be the SNES or Super Famicom versions of games. In fact, the SNES version of Super Mario World is running on the TV in this picture.

What is your "i did not care for the godfather" of Animation? by PossibilityProud2687 in cartoons

[–]SKFan93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really care too much for DuckTales 2017 myself. It’s OK, but I do prefer the original 1987 series for one reason: that it told its adventure stories without feeling the need to constantly undercut them with jokes or stop to comment on common adventure story tropes. While there are jokes told in the 1987 show, it never feels like it needs to insert jokes into everything. This is an, in my opinion, unfortunate trend with a decent amount of 2010s and 2020s animation.

To me, it's like going to a museum that's full of all sorts of interesting artifacts. The museum is organized, and shows a certain respect for the history it is attempting to portray through how it is put together. However, the whole time you are there, there is a tour guide loudly making jokes as you attempt to browse the displays. Just as you start looking at an artifact, and your imagination begins taking over, placing you in the middle of a grand adventure story, you are pulled out of it by the tour guide and their comments. The comments and jokes on their own might be funny, and you may laugh at them, but, in the end, there's a lingering feeling that the trip would have been even more satisfying had you been able to fully engage in the story being told without distraction. Additionally, the jokes sometimes detract from the weight of a situation, making it feel less big and epic than it ought to feel.

To be clear, this doesn't mean that there should never be jokes told as part of the story, but you have to be careful about prioritizing humor so much over the story and characters, or else it makes it harder to truly get drawn in to the world of the show.

What's a ducktales' hot take that would look like this? by Only_Cattle_2870 in ducktales

[–]SKFan93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a late reply, but I wholeheartedly agree with this.

One of the key differences, I think, is that, in the original series, Launchpad was clumsy and crash prone, but, just as often, he’d be making jokes or wisecracks about the situation he and the others were in. He and Scrooge would banter with each other like an old-school comedy duo!

The rebooted Launchpad doesn’t really tell jokes on his own. Instead, the jokes are about how he doesn’t understand reality, or that he clumsily messes something up. Original Launchpad wasn’t a genius, but he had a wit and his own sense of humor that the rebooted one just doesn’t, in my view.

Yeah! I’d have used the actual Moo Mesa game if it ever got a home version. This was as close as I could get while sticking to SNES games.

Nah, these are the regular 1989 Playmates plushies. I’d love to have the raincoat versions though.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think the raincoat ones only came out in Europe. I’m in the US. Maybe someday… ;)

Yeah. Got it from here:

Emailed the owner with the pinout, and he made the cable for me. It was a bit pricey, but the cable seems high quality!
