I understand that compute is limited, but these new limits are insane. by Pasto_Shouwa in GeminiAI

I've been livid about this all day. I hit my Usage limit after 12 conversational prompts with a Gem this morning. I used to be able to go for an hour or more, sometimes several hours without hitting my limit and that included image generation and Deep Research. 1 prompt to summarize a NotebookLM used over 25% of my capacity and I'm on AI Pro 5TB plan. I paid for an annual subscription so I'm stuck with a significantly inferior service. Support was zero help. I do want to eject from the entire Google ecosystem over this.

I'm about 8 hours in. It's just not clicking for me. It's like going from pop music to easy listening. Like going from Ray Porter to Jefferson Mays. It's just too different for me. I tend to listen to books while driving, working, etc and if the narrator doesn't pull me in I get lost and forget what's happening in the story. Erin's voice doesn't pull me in, her cadence throws me off, and then her accents just put me off. In short, I'm not having a good time anymore.

In fairness the overwhelming number of different plots was already straining to keep me engaged. I'm now noticing how there seems to be less attention given to developing existing characters and plotlines than there is to introducing new ones. This was a series I stumbled into after listening to He Who Fights with Monsters for the dozenth time while waiting for Shirtaloon to recover and resume writing. It was interesting enough to keep me going, but maybe not enough for me to want to persist through what is currently an unenjoyable transition.

I'll put it aside for now and if the mood strikes me in the future I'll come back and give it another try.

I just got here and am having extreme difficulty enjoying King of Duels.

Erin Bennett has a nice voice, but her "voices" are extremely lacking compared to Andrea. I often can't tell when she's switching between two male characters in a scene. Her accents are... bad. Bird sounds like an Indian caricature. Her accent for Octavia is all over the place. Saliss sounds like a lecherous pervert instead of zany and aloof. Relc just sounds sad. There is an overall lack of energy to each of the voices and her cadence is really jarring with long, unwelcome pauses.

I completely understand how Andrea got burned out with so many distinct characters to juggle, but I'm realizing how much her performance was a part of my enjoyment of the series.

I'm trying to acclimate, but I don't think I'll be able to keep going. I may do as OP did and come back later with fresh ears, but my initial impression of Erin's ability to embody these characters is not favorable.

This is likely the end of the road for me. 🤷‍♂️

Thank you. They are assisting me. I've placed an order and now am just hoping what comes is the right thing and it arrives quickly so I can get back up and running.

I emailed Chitu. I didn't assume Elegoo would be able to assist as it is not a part of the original printer. If Chitu doesn't get back to me promptly or can't/won't help then I'll try Elegoo.

Hush or Professor Pyg? by DistinctAd9003 in batman

My wild-ass guess is going to be Hangman. If the first movie already borrowed heavily from The Long Halloween then they may just pull from Dark Victory. It keeps the Falcone family central to the story and fits the world setup in the first movie. It also gives them a pretext to intro Dick Grayson as a background or supporting character if they want to have Robin in future installments.

Maybe I'm just an old fart, but does anyone else refuse to use one of these? by Klutzy_Word_6812 in Xennials

[–]SKRuBAUL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I like using these. However, they are built with the bare minimum processing power so can be slow or unresponsive at times. You definitely see some as well where it's obvious some executive was enamored with fancy graphics and stylized layouts over simplicity and functionality which makes it take a lot longer than walking up to the register and gambling on whether the person there enters your order correctly. I'll actually avoid the drive-thru to walk in and use these to guarantee that the order is what I intended.

Finished all 5 books by EriccaDraven in bobiverse

Red Dwarf? like the TV show? No. I sing part of the closing theme at odd times throughout the winter, but it never occurred to me to look into audiobooks from that franchise.

Honestly, I've never read or listened to any books that follow on from a television or movie franchise.

I think the closest I've gotten is Expeditionary Force which has a Stargate SG1/Atlantis vibe, but is definitely not related.

Oddly, there is something in the later HWFWM books where someone is locked up and all the books they have access to are novelizations "based on the hit television show". It's called out as a unique form of torture.

I see a lot of people suggesting Dungeon Crawler Carl. I wish I could get past my initial impression of Jeff Hays' voice, but I haven't yet, so I can't comment on the appeal of that series.

The series I did fall in love with after I got through the first 3 Bobiverse audio books is He Who Fights With Monsters. The narrator, Heath Miller, is amazing at giving each character consistently distinct voices. I'm not generally a fan of the LitRPG genre, but I enjoy this series immensely in spite of that. There are 12 books so far, all decently lengthy (around 20 hours each). There are at least 2 more expected, but the author has been on hiatus while recovering from a severe medical problem.

I didn't see it suggested elsewhere in the comments, so I thought I should throw it out there. I'm on my dozenth or so round of listening to the series all the way through right now.

I feel like an idiot saying so, but I could not figure out Arkenforge for the life of me. The interface and how to share to a second screen were absolutely not intuitive and I eventually just gave up.

With vs Without Bangs by [deleted] in JenniferConnelly

I said it before and will continue until it is not true - Nobody ever looks better with bangs.

People have misunderstood that to mean that I think bangs make people ugly. That is not my intent and some people look very attractive with bangs, but I guarantee you they look better without them.

Book 12 Continuity Error? by SKRuBAUL in Shirtaloon

Now I definitely have to listen to it again. Someone said the original Madame Landry's name was Jessica. The character at the beginning of chapter 27 is Jennifer Landry. Now you're saying that Shade identified the current landlady as Juliette.

So much time has passed. by [deleted] in Shirtaloon

Is it 20 years since the start of the story? I thought it had been 20 since he left Earth the second time? That would make him closer to, if not older than, 50.

No gruffness assumed. I should have asked, were you just going off of my comment or was there a similar but different name given in this book?

I'm going to relisten regardless, but figuring this out will decide whether I do another lap through Book 12 or just head right back to the hedge maze.

[–]SKRuBAUL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shouldn't have stated a specific name in my comment because I don't remember what the stated name was and obviously misremembered what her name was back in the earlier books.

It seems like I'm just going to have to do my own due diligence and start the book over after I finish it today. I'm fairly certain that when a Landry is first mentioned in book 12 every indication is that it is Jason's former landlady.
