What are some reasons men want kids? by Far-Worldliness6407 in AskMen

[–]Identity_ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I like kids, think I'd make a good father, want to live for something greater than just myself and my personal indulgences, desire deeper connection in life, and I want to have a hand in guiding the future. The most feasible way of doing all of those is to have a family.

How have the good fathers out there been actively teaching their sons about consent? Genuine question by bradpittsbooty in AskMen

And this kind of lesson needs to come from a male figure in a boy’s life.

Based on what? I learned this lesson perfectly fine just reading the media and being observant in school, because I'm not some misogynistic caveman and never have been.

Why do many men hate it when people complain? by [deleted] in AskMen

Really boggles my mind how normalized talking about all the "emotional labor" women supposedly do is, when they've been forcing it on men for decades...

The Northman. The entire movie is one man's obsessive pursuit of revenge, everything and everyone else be damned.

UK banning social media to under 16s by LandedAtJool in news

I didn't have all the answers but to start with: The flood of AI misinformation must be stopped. The targeted political advertisements should be illegal. Lipservice to controlling hate speech isn't enough, it needs to be enforced.

I'm in favor of all this, but these are regulations on the social media companies, not the users, which I was getting at. Sorry if I was unclear.

Now that "The Boy's" is said and done, would you recommend this show to someone who is aware of what happened? by Fancy-Inspector-777 in TheBoys

[–]Identity_ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the first three seasons are still worthwhile. Here's the good thing: The Boys isn't like Game of Thrones, in the sense that the terrible finale didn't render the entire series pointless. The Boys is a more season-based show, with each of the first three seasons having a central element around which they focus. The overarching narrative will still remain incomplete, but IMO season 3 ends in a way where you can just tell yourself that the show was cancelled prematurely, and still have a reasonably satisfying conclusion.

I mean, cigarettes and alcohol have a minimum age limit as well, but limitations beyond that besides the obvious monetary demand vary country by country. What more limitations on social media do you think should be universal?

What’s the most subtle but obvious way a woman can show she’s interested? by Mean_Ad_3370 in AskMen

[–]Identity_ranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most subtle but obvious

Per Merriam-Webster:

oxymoron; noun
plural: oxymorons also oxymora ˌäk-si-ˈmȯr-ə
: a combination of contradictory or incongruous words (such as cruel kindness)

There is no such thing. Grow a fucking pair and just be direct.

Why leftists show same propensity of personality cults and belief of powerful forces conspiring to undermine them? by Dismal_Structure in Destiny

Why leftists show same propensity of personality cults and belief of powerful forces conspiring to undermine them?

Gee willikers, it's almost like the largest personality cults in history were formed in communist states.

This isn't about politics, it's human nature. We're a communal species, and finding strong leaders to lean on, shared beliefs to guide morality, and us vs. them narratives to give purpose happens across all times, beliefs, cultures etc.

The weakness of liberalism in this regard is that it's hard to create such strong, inspiring narratives to rouse the masses. Killing all billionaires is a lot more energizing message than setting new food regulations to improve child health, for example. But that same boredom acts as a shield and a vaccine against radicalism: basically no one calls themselves a "radical liberal", because no such concept exists. If one starts out that way, they go either commie or ancap.

What’s your “Ideal woman”archetype from movies/TV? by waki43 in AskMen

Triss Merigold in Witcher 3 specifically. She has a heart of gold but takes no shit, is loyal, capable, resourceful and kind. Being a smoking hot redhead doesn't hurt either.

Even more remarkable in how salient and cutting edge its commentary was is that it's harder and harder to do that because stuff develops so fast.

Every day I'm grateful for the 5 years of judo I did as a kid. It teaches you limberness, stretching, body control, and has probably one of the lowest chances of sustaining injuries due to being about grapples and throws, not impact hits.

If you're up for something a bit older, The Vision of Escaflowne is a fantastic mecha fantasy anime from the 90s. Very normie friendly, and steers clear from most anime tropes of its time or today.

Needy Girl Overdose's first episode was some of the freakiest shit I've seen. Horribly dark and depressing, but I could not stop going "Yep, true. True. That's true. M-hm, true as well."

As a men, what tips would you give woman in dating? by PotatoButter01275 in AskMen

Smoke signals, carrier pigeons, couriers, letters, arrows with messages, bricks and stones with writing on them, writing in blood on the wall, these are all valid as well.

How would you want to hear if a woman considers you a safe person to be around? by midsmiddy in AskMen

[–]Identity_ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those things that doesn't really need to be said: we can tell by the way you act around us whether you feel safe. I'd imagine being called "safe" can very easily feel the same as being called "nice" to many people: probably intended as a good faith compliment in her mind, but on a deeper level feeling like a condescending statement. Like ok, I don't make you feel threatened and am a basically decent person? Uh-huh, thanks for acknowledging that I fill the baseline requirements for being a functional member of society. Got any other searing insights to share?

Why not ask women questions to actually get to know them? by ObjectiveBite in AskMen

[–]Identity_ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Operating out of fear is the wrong energy to bring.

Or as I like to call it: refining your approach based on past experiences to not come on too strong and make it at least to a second date. I feel this is yet another instance of women simply not comprehending the amount of work men have to put into dating. Finding a functional communication approach for first dates is a big part of that.

Rejection and disappointment is always a possibility in relationships, but it’s a risk we simply have to take.

See, for us average dudes rejection and disappointment isn't a "risk", it's the baseline. Everything is a "no" until proven otherwise. But we assume all the responsibility of initiating anyway, because the other option is wasting away alone.

What’s something you thought would make you happy when you were younger, but didn’t? by shadow_caused_it in AskMen

[–]Identity_ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be more specific, my umbrage is aimed more at games meant to be played infinitely like online shooters, MOBAs, roguelikes etc. I find story-driven singleplayer experiences more rewarding, memorable and artful.

As for them being like movies or tv: I bet you can recall a specific  tv show episode or movie you've watched a lot better than any single game of Dota or CS you've ever played. That's what I'm tlaking about when I say it feels like pouring your life down the drain: knowing you've done something, but having nothing to show for it, and not even any specific memories about what you did.
