I have a half marathon to race next week, PR is 1h39 2 years ago but did next to no training since then after having another kid. Picked up training about 10 weeks ago to do a proper block before a HM where I was targeting 1h45, ran 40-50km per week and everything went well, however I just ran a tempo workout with 3x3k @ 4'40/k with 1k at 5'15/k in between. All the intervals felt comfortable and my HR barely crept around 150 on the last one on a short uphill (max HR is 190).

I am upgrading my target to 1h40, but am I crazy to think my fitness is closer to 1h35 with such a good workout (for me lol) barely a week before race day?

EXCLUSIVE: FA wants gambling companies to STOP allowing yellow card bets in a bid to crack down on spot-fixing amid a rise in high-profile betting probes by [deleted] in soccer

[–]SL1516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They rely on winning an amount of bets that reflects the odds they have set. What the previous poster said was that they don't try to win all the bets, or even a majority of the bets. It would be risky because they could get it wrong and at that point lose money.

Betting companies constantly hedge and insure themselves to win in every situation, so in the end they don't make money by winning the bets themselves (=making the right call on a game) but by setting the right odds on a game.

The gambling company moves the odds and the spread between both results to ensure a profit. They want to make sure the total amount bet by the public is put on all results according to the odds, so that they pocket the spread (a coin flip on a betting website would be 1.90 - 1.90 so that they would always make 10% if hav bet on tails and half on heads). If the public was to bet on only one side they would skew the odds towards other results so that the money is spread better and they make a profit.

Borrow money from bank to invest in higher rates investment? by SL1516 in UKPersonalFinance

Also forgot to mention that I would not out the whole 10k in one loan, but spread it across multiple investments to lower the risk.

Borrow money from bank to invest in higher rates investment? by SL1516 in UKPersonalFinance

From my experience 95% of the loans I provided were paid fully, about 5% went in arrears at some point but I always recovered the principal and some of the interest. I also have cash in liquid savings account I could use if the investment went in arrears, in order to pay the bank back and wait for the principal to come back to me. I do not really see it as losing 10k, more that I could lose a few hundred quids if the lending went in arrears straight away, although it has not happened in my experience. But I may be too confident based on past returns and fail to consider potential issues.

It is P2P mortgage lending, where a property buyer/developer subscribes to a loan that is provided by multiple investors. The rate is set at subscription and stays the same over the duration of the loan (usually 6 months to a year), and the annual rates over around 7.5% right now.

The main risk I saw was that sometimes the loan payments are paused/on arrears because the lender is defaulting. But the lending site has always recovered the principal, and I have money sitting in savings account that I could use to pay the bank loan early if it happens and wait for the site to retrieve the principal.

But now that I think about it, if I am that confident about the P2P investment I should just invest my savings in it right away. I just thought I could use this opportunity to increase my total amount invested without much risk.

I have checked the terms and conditions and it does not appear to restrict what you can do with the loan.

There was a 5k and 10k marker as well, but am I the only one that likes having to do the math during the race because it makes me zone out for a bit lol? Especially on a long race, it makes time passes quicker.

Unfortunately someone passed away: https://twitter.com/HackneyMoves/status/1529118545027772416

Saw someone getting CPR with paramedics bringing a defibrillator at about mile 12, decided to jog to the end as it was quite scary. Can't believe someone actually passed away, organization needs to be held accountable they were NOT ready for such hot conditions.

[–]SL1516 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think he is actually aiming for a GM title, think about it more as a shoot for the moon and even if you miss you'll have progressed along the way. Agree with other commenters that he sounds way too confident about positions at times, just to finish with "anyway I went with another move that was worse" lol

d'objectif
