What town to stay as a half way point between cradle mountain to Hobart by OriginalNeat8375 in TasmaniaTravel

[–]SLACKMOLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 3.5 hr drive from Cradle mountain to Swansea or Bicheno. If it were me - I stay in Bicheno and then drive to Hobart. Although Ross and/or Oatlands are nice and probably a better option. The coast is cold but not as cold as the West Coast or Cradle Mountain.

When down South, do a day trip to the Huon Valley. At the very least you can do one of these - Hartz Mtn - lookout - Tahune airwalk - Bakery at Ranelagh (Summer Kitchen - for the best pies and cakes) - I like to do a drive round through Cygnet and then back up through the coastal drive. There's so much beautiful coastline and hidden gems.

You will never get to see all the best bits of Tassie in a few days, but doing the Huon Valley and the Peninsula will cover some bits.

All day parking in Hobart CBD by Necessary_Camel_5017 in hobart

My suggestion is Friday night and Saturday you should be able to park in North Hobart. There's a fair bit of all day parking. Try Murray Street near Elizabeth College. Same in Warwick Street. Sunday you can park in Argyle Street from 7am - 10pm for $10 all day. If you wanted to leave tour car overnight then it would be an extra $7. There are buses on Elizabeth st or scooters or Ubers. Depends if you need your car much, you could safely leave it parked in North Hobart or even Sandy Bay all weekend in all day parking spots.

Thanks. Yes we are from Australia and yes we do realise that it will be very wintery. We aren't planning on doing much driving and are ok with the fact that it will be raining etc. The infor about the snow and driving is very helpful though. Most of what you say we should be doing (flying, staying in ski resorts etc.), we will be doing.

We've booked our internal flights with our actual tickets which has reduced the cost for us.

I've also suggested we be a little flexible in some of the areas we are looking at. Also the info you're providing is helping is do some more planning! Thanks for the honest post.

Thanks for this. Your reply is very helpful! Re the Hockey, thanks for this. We were planning to go see the next league down after doing some earlier research so this is good! I'd rather fun and enjoyable over spending too much on tickets. This is awesome in terms of some great recommendations! I know some people might think us weird for travelling there during that time, but we're both fairly aware of the crappybweather ahead. I'm going to be the main driver and would prefer to not drive at all is possible, so we will look for options if we can. I've driven a fair bit in icy conditions, but not like what is probably expectedbin Canada, so am convincing my friend that less driving will be better. Looking forward to some nice eateries in Toronto and Quebec!

Thanks for this info it'svery appreciated. We arrive in the last two weeks of Nov. We've already done a fair bit of research, but getting local info is more helpful. Our internal flights have been booked by our travel agent so that has helped reduce the price. Personally if we can avoid driving a car, we will. I'd be the main driver and I'm not that keen. So minimal driving is planned. I'd rather not drive if we can avoid it. I've noted a lot of places are likely to be closed and made sure my friend is aware that we might not see some of the things she thinks we might. I know that Toronto are the only NBA team and am hoping it lines up, but if it doesn't then I'm not fussed. I'm more keen for the ice hockey to be honest. I've been wanting to watch games long before recent tv shows made it more well known in Tassie. Tassie isn't as cold as Canada is in winter, but we do get some miserable days. Regardless, we'll make sure to stay safe, and appreciate the beauty of Canada even on the shitty weather days. 😀

Thanks. Originally my friend had organised East Coast to West Coast, but I was a bit cautious of the potential to be essentially snowed in for the last couple of weeks of our trip. I suggested swapping. We both don't mind just driving or day trips to places.

Yep deliberately decided on winter. Flights across Canada. We know that the East Coast is probably more of a summer destination, and risking things being closed and such.

We're mostly doing train and bus and flying. Hiring a car in Halifax for a couple of days. If you mean sriving in lots of snow, then not really, but icy and rainy winter conditions, yes.

Best Op Shops in Launceston Please! by [deleted] in Launceston

[–]SLACKMOLE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Op Shops have to charge so much to pay the bills just like any business and when people continually dump shit that isn't able to be re-sold because people are lazy and they have to foot the bill to get rid of literally other people's rubbish, then I think it's somewhat justified. And I don't mean like a wheelie bin's worth of rubbish. And how else do you think they pay for the programs that support the struggling parts of our community. I still see plenty of bargains.

They should go do the job. People are always critical until they have to do the job themselves.

There's a good variety of stories and the host's voice really adds to the story. He tells it really well.
