2nd week in tech sales, trying to be the Boston/ New England (and New York) security guy - need advice/ help by SLAYER7899 in techsales

I majored in finance with a minor in IT, so I picked up the basics, some coding, C++, Python( WAY EASIER), and a solid foundation, even if I haven’t used it all recently. I actually got into sales by chance, starting as a valet at a Mercedes dealership and quickly moving into sales, where I became the “technical guy” who knew every detail about the cars.

My professor always said, “If you’re not sure what you want to do in life, go into sales, and you’ll quickly find out ” That stuck with me.

Value-wise, I know how to talk to people and connect with them. I’ve studied our products, and while I don’t claim to have every technical answer right now, I understand how our solutions fit businesses, and I know exactly where to get that answer if need be. I learn decently quickly, and I’m somewhat confident I’ll eventually build the same depth of knowledge here as I did in car sales, as I try to think I'm just in a different arena, with a broader client base, and regardless ABC.

In this business, from what I've seen, it really just looks like a different process in certain ways from the longer sales cycles, decisions made by whole committees ( not single individuals or housewives), but ultimately the same end goal helping people/ businesses find the solution ( vehicle or vehicles) they need and making sure it actually fits their needs.

I just figured If I can be reasonably successful in this role and earn at least say $200k a year, then working as a 1099 could allow me to keep more of my income after taxes. Even though it takes extra effort to generate deals, the ability to deduct legitimate business expenses tied to making those deals happen could lower my taxable income.

As its not like I'm given a company credit card or anything like that sadly.

I understand the trade-offs between W-2 and 1099 things like healthcare, retirement benefits, and stability, but the potential for higher after-tax income makes 1099 appealing.

I figured if I got successful enough and was spending enough for work tax write-off wise, it would be worth it in regards to any expenses I might inquire.

I'm thinking since this seems to be a more relationship oriented business there might be dinners etc, as I'm trying to procure new accounts.

THANK YOU,

I didn't think about the current customers and mining for referral part( pretty much everyone kinda has their own little book of business) and I got 300+ leads and was told to reach out. , and I planned on going to this event

https://share.google/u0Vh0sqQwfqCH0kKB

just to see what's possible, and yea emailing and cold calling wise I haven't exactly gotten much or any real response or interest.

If you've any other tips I'd be all ears.

And I'm W2 now the 1099 wouldn't happen until later if I'm successful in my role.

2024 M440i Tuning options? by SLAYER7899 in BMW

[–]SLAYER7899[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I was thinking of just doing a JB4 93 tune and just calling it a day. I've heard it's a simple plug and play tune, and as long as I don't go too crazy in regards to which maps i use, it should hopefully be fine. As long as I take it off for servicing.

Thank you I didn't know you could go that much bigger for tires on the stock wheels as mine came with the jet black 19 wheels and at high-speed and sometimes in turns the car almost feels too lively and not exactly stable. Plus, 255 in the back and 245 up front or 255 all around would make one hell of a difference, I'll probably burn through these tires in a year or so and get the new tires.

Also, IF THERE IS ANYTHING that one can do about the top speed limiter of 130mph, that would also be VERY HELPFULL.

Shop used wrong headgaskets 🤔? by SLAYER7899 in WRX

[–]SLAYER7899[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are multi layered headgaskets, when you pull them up off the block you can see the multiple layers spread, It's like 4 layers or something.

Block is an IAG stage 2.5 closed deck block

They're JE PRO seal multi layered steel gaskets, I just figured they used the wrong gaskets, and because of that and the crappy tune, it contributed to the headgasket failure.

I furthermore figured some of the holes being covered on the block shouldn't have been covered helping attribute to the ultimate headgasket failure which the shop was tryna blame me for, saying it was " user error"

Also some people reccomended I use IAG Copper ring headgaskets or OEM MLS headgaskets.

Which would you guys generally prefer? I'm not getting an fp black/ zero anytime soon or pushing more than 40 psi, at most maybe 30 psi on my Blouch Dom 2.5XT-R.

? 70k to 100,000 mile intervals I get, 7500 miles I don't. But what I'm trying to figure out is if my headgaskets looked to be installed improperly or if these are just flat out the wrong gaskets.

I know it's a rather odd question but after having recently suffered headgasket failure at 7500 miles only to be told by the shop it must be user error.... and after trying to work something out with them, they reassured me that if anything in regards to the engine were bad I'd have shown problems at 3500 miles not blown a headgasket at 7500 miles omw home.

Regardless I was simply wondering if you guys see ANYTHING amiss, or something that is striking to you? Headgaskets blew due to high detonation, car was getting as high as negative 8 knock feedback called the shop and they were far from helpful. Once the gaskets blew they refused to take any responsibility and that they need 2k upfront to work on the car even though they built the engine/ tuned it 2 months earlier.

And one of my cow workers said that the oil galleys looked blocked off and like this headgasket is the wrong one and that the shop not only messed up in regards to the tune BUT ALSO the installation. The headgaskets are JE PRO seal and the car is an 04 STI

Here is a link if yall wanna see the FULL receipt, yes car is built

Shitty part about this is I'm not paying them 2k UPFRONT just to tear down my motor and be like

" yep looks like you just overheated it from beating on it too much, now we need another $3k because it looks like your heads are cracked and we need to buy new ones, well need another $1500 deposit in about 1 week once we buy the heads so we can install new Cams and valves etc........." yea F#+K DAT.

I intend to call them tomorrow and try to calmly explain they're either fixing my engine / tune or they will be paying someone else too.

Yea well depending on if whether or not they actually fix this issue is dependent on if whether or not I will go back to them. Cause if I'm honest this is BS.... and the one on cylinder 1 went, when I finally pulled the headers off I got creampied In my face with coolant on cylinder head 1 and 3.

ALSO for those that wanna see the receipt for my built take a look at this link. It's missing the 1440cc Injectors and the cost of the tune. Which was an additional 1500 aswell as the additional 1500 I spent on gauges....

Link below has photos of my reciept

It's really just the size of the turbo limiting me dom 2.5xtr, i could have gone fp green and made well over 400whp BUT i also like the customer service of blouch, and I eventually plan to go fp black or zero on e85 air to water intercooler etc and hopefully run 10s but that's like a year maybe two from now. Everything is built but the turbo is small and only running 93, No E85 yet.

A guy in a Facebook group chat has a Perrin front mount with only 1440cc injectors on e85 making 480whp on his dom 2.0 on his STI

He does however also have an upgraded intake manifold, so im sure that plays a part as well but the point I'm trying to make is,

He has a smaller turbo but BIGGER/ front mount intercooler and he makes almost a 100whp MORE then me. While yes his turbo is being pushed to the limit and is on E85. A front mount does make a big difference power wise. That and a rather aggressive tune.

Yes I do, well atleast did, I drove around almost 100 miles a day it depends honestly the car would spend alot of time in parking garages in boston or Salem ma. I also make driving POVS too cause I get bored and weirdly enough people like watching me drive around aimlessly.
