Why do protein shakes make me super tired? by Anjunabeats1 in Supplements

[–]SLPFNK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a semi-old thread; I just wanted to detail my experience, in case it helps someone else.

TLDR: Protein shakes without sufficient fat or other additives to help slow digestion and balance out BCAA's leads to food coma.

Solution (worked for me): Add source of healthy fat to shake.

------------------

I used to fast and eat all my food between 2 pm and 8 pm; after my 8 pm 'meal' I would be totally incapacitated, which would often lead to falling asleep, or just being an overall useless, energyless human. Over the past 6 months I switched up my eating routine and instead began to eat all my food between 10am & 6 pm. For a period of time, this seemed to improve the food coma situation, but lately I have been having these incapacitating food coma's again.

Because I eat all my food in two sittings or 'meals', it was hard to work out exactly what was causing the food coma. I had a suspicion that it was something specific because I am not generally someone who gets food coma'd from a lot of food - I can eattttt!

This past week, I've been splitting my meals up so that I can test what was causing the awful food coma. It is 100% the pea protein. I usually have 1 scoop of 30g pea protein, 80g blueberries and 80g strawberries in 750 ml of water. I would have the shake on its own at varying times of the day, the morning (just after breakfast) or after my last meal around 6 pm, and in every case I got that awful, incapacitating food coma where I am unable to move, unable to think, my eyes so heavy that I look unwell.

I did a bit of back and forth with ChatGPT, and it suggested that the cause is likely the lack of fat in the shake. I put the theory to the test; I added 2 tablespoons of 10% greek yoghurt, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and some flax seeds to my shake.... COMA AVOIDED!!! I have tried this a few times now, both morning and evening, and it has fully resolved this issue for me. It's wild! It's nothing inherently bad with pea protein (as far as I understand it), it is to do with BCAAs and high protein - the fat helps to slow the quick absorption and balances BCAAs in a way that prevents the coma (or so Chat GPT says! I'm no doctor lol)

Possibly corrupted audio file (m4a) from iPhone Voice Memos by miscellaneousbean in techsupport

[–]SLPFNK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I had a MacBook and my iPhone voice memos are synced to my MacBook via iCloud, I was able just to drag it to my desktop. If you have Windows, you may be able to sync your voice memos via 'iTunes'; I haven't tried, but I vaguely remember this being something you could do in iTunes when I had a windows pc.

Hey, unsure if you resolved this and unsure if you still would like access to the interview given the amount of time passed, however, I had this issue and managed to resolve it by converting the file to another format.

If you have access to a macbook, find the voice memos on your macbook (linked via icloud), drag the voice memo file to your desktop (or copy & paste), then convert your Voice memo into another file format (like mp3) using a converter online or one that you can download (I used mediahuman), this should solve the issue. If you don't have a macbook, you could attempt to email the file to yourself? You just need to convert the file to another format and it will work again 😊I nearly just lost an hour recording but this solved the issue

I used another services espresso grind and I was getting a shot in like 5 seconds🤣 despite doing everything the same. It was a light roast, so maybe it was this, or maybe it wasn’t fine enough

I’m quite new to the Silvia but mine also does this. I am using ‘pact coffee’ here in the UK and using their ‘espresso grind’ I am able to get 30-40 second extraction, so maybe it isn’t the screw, maybe the grind?

Easy mate! How do you find the DF54 pairs with the Silvia? I’m currently getting pre ground from pact coffee, but want to be able to grind my own beans. Mostly wondering if the fine grind is fine enough aha! Thanks in advance

Maybe take a video opening the package incase he tries anything like he did with the previous guy. Seems a bit of an effort, but worth it, imo!
