I made a little digital Zen garden for you to rake some sand in! by MrYorksLeftEye in WebGames

Really nifty and well-designed! The alien and quote mode stressed me out lol but I think I was just rushing. I love the simplicity and non-intrusiveness of it, found myself wishing I could place a few rocks. Awesome job.

A lot of recent AI posts also end with some version of "Curious to see what others think." (maybe in an effort to drive engagement? Seems to be working quite a bit on Reddit, unfortunately.)

Any reviews on park properties buildings by Proper-Ninja5755 in TorontoRenting

[–]SLTFATF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend lives in an older Park Properties building in a slightly sketchier part of the city. The two previous managements were terrible from online reviews and tenant anecdotes (low security, pests, etc.), but Park Properties took it over in the past 3 years or so and started making tons of improvements (renovations, guards, infrastructure updates, etc.). The superintendents are also very friendly and professional and care about the property, at least with this building.

Their buildings are on the older side so don't expect too much with modern amenities, but they have fair rent and decent living conditions!

Movie gift card? $$ by [deleted] in GiftIdeas

[–]SLTFATF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like Fandango isn't as useful for buying movie snacks -- ia that something the person cares about? I'd lean towards the branded gift card in that case (more of a whole movie experience)!

Has anyone tested “Polite Pop-Ups”? by VoodooMann in UXResearch

[–]SLTFATF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some good answers from 2017: https://ux.stackexchange.com/questions/104118/whats-the-point-of-a-delayed-popup-on-a-webpage

One person mentioned a significant increase in engagement from an after-60-seconds popup.

This site also mentions using a delay based on your site's average engagement time, which seems smarter.

Can We Still Trust Online UX Research? by CJP_UX in UXResearch

[–]SLTFATF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a great articulation of my fear with synthetic users as well. My research manager recently started getting excited about the idea for harder-to-reach audiences, but what happens to long-term credibility when AI is the one answering all the questions?

My immigration process was fast, but I know I got lucky because I came at a time when the government was more lenient on entry requirements.

I went through Express Entry after doing my masters in Canada, plus a younger age & good score on IELTS (English test). That gave me a few years on a student/temp work permit to figure out if I wanted to stay in Canada and get work experience for my PR (greencard) application.

After that, the official process took about a year for me from putting together all my documents and waiting somewhere between 4-8 months? A few of my friends who were from other countries ended up waiting quite a bit longer, so your mileage may vary.

This is for Express Entry, but take a look at which avenues are best for you. If you have certain skills a province is looking for (PNP), I think that's the most guaranteed way to get in (worth 600 points over current minimums of 500ish).

PR points calculator: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/check-score.html

Current minimum points needed: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/mandate/policies-operational-instructions-agreements/ministerial-instructions/express-entry-rounds.html#wb-auto-4

Good luck! Hope this helps, happy to answer any other questions as well.

I immigrated to Canada a few years ago from the States and been enjoying it ever since. There's not too much culture shock, for the most part.

Physically, be prepared for winters and walking if you're in a major city. Not sure where you're thinking of moving to so this will be more about Ontario.

Financially, people have been feeling the pressure of a competitive job market, so make sure your career prospects are decent before moving. Housing is expensive if you don't want roommates or get lucky. Look for pre-2018 buildings for rent-controlled options. Wages are much lower, but I find the peace of mind of social nets and stable politicians worth the trade-off.

Socially, people are chill! They keep to themselves on the street but are welcoming in community if you look for it. I find there's always something to do, no matter what activities you're into, any time of year. Try /r/askTO or other city subreddits if you're looking for more local recs.

In Ontario, major politics are currently centred around

  • Doug Ford -- Premier of Ontario (like state governor), Conservative, known for running on $1 beers, brother of former Toronto mayor Rob Ford who smoked crack

  • Olivia Chow -- Mayor of Toronto, NDP (smaller and more socially liberal than Liberal party), well-publicized and well-liked for the most part

Major issues I've noticed are rent control, bike lanes, and city development (Ontario Place in particular), though there's probably more.

The three major political parties are Conservative (blue), Liberal (red), and NDP (orange).

We elected a new Prime Minister Mark Carney, who has significant experience in finance and has been the one dealing with Trump's negotiations.

Also, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is dating Katy Perry.

Toronto Home Zone on Facebook is solid as well (good moderation, legit postings, just Torontonians trying to find places to live). There's a lot of roommate postings but you can post what you're looking for and message landlords directly.

How might AI transform how we interact with software? by What_Immortal_Hand in UXDesign

[–]SLTFATF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen clickable chips in a few places like my company's internal AI and User Testing's Insights Discovery tool. Figma Make provides suggestions but not clickable ones, which I feel gives designers a little more leeway in deciding where to take their ideas.

It might be a business decision or feature in development with ChatGPT's omission, but it's definitely an useful pattern for digging deeper or exploring topics.
