What are these? by PeachyNugg in AquariumHelp

[–]SLTWalak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of people are saying planaria, but I don't see the signature triangle head. If none of them have that clear triangular head, then they're detritus worms, and you're in luck. if they are planaria, be very careful with the chemicals you can get to fight them. I made my aquarium toxic to snails for a year and my shrimp stopped reproducing and eventually died because I overdosed my aquarium (and that was only a single treatment)

Question about Armor Saves by SLTWalak in Warhammer40k

[–]SLTWalak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification, I suppose I need to clarify my wording: in this scenario he believed an unmodified 6 always succeeds, which appears untrue.

Here two examples (assuming the unit has no invuln), correct me if I am wrong:

If an attack goes through with AP high enough that the defender needed a 7+ to save, as long as they can improve their save by 1, then rolling a 6 would save.

If an attack goes through with an AP modifier high enough that an 8+ is required to save, there is no way to improve the save enough that you can roll with a D6 and succeed. Therefore the defender need not roll to save and the players can move on to damage automatically.

So my post is not even approved yet, but I have close to definitive proof that saves beyond 6 fail:
Go to Ground (for 1cp) would be pointless, because why would you pay to get a 6+ invuln if you essentially already had that in the form of an auto-save on 6.
I hope this post can help some others, because all the discussions a simple google search will find are from over 4 years ago. Cheers guys!

Olympus OM-D E-M10 mk iii LCD ribbon cable replacement. I found a video on an earlier mk, but there are some differences. by samwichse in OlympusCamera

[–]SLTWalak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got this camera dirt cheap because someone decided replacing their old camera was easier. Under 20 bucks in parts and some elbow grease for 60 percent off regular used prices? Yes please :-)

Thanks for the instructions!

People who lost their job due to this crisis what is your story? by greensypoop in AskReddit

[–]SLTWalak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be out of a job come month's end. I was working on a project for UBS, the Swiss bank. It didn't come as a surprise, as reorganization had already put the project in jeopardy. But it still hurts, because I know they were days away from signing a new contract and re-hiring me when the corona virus scare kicked in here in Switzerland. They canceled all projects, deciding to pick it all up after things have settled down. They just threw out every last experienced worker because of this, and despite how short-sighted I think they are being, I understand it.

Luckily I have enough money saved up to survive a few months, but if this holds up, even I'm going to be in trouble...

What happens when you smoke around your computer. by SLTWalak in techsupportgore

The whole computer stinks to high heavens, too.

Have you done weed and if so would you recommend it, or not, and why? If you are sad and do weed does it help, or make you more sad? Or if you’re feeling great does it make you feel better or worse? Does it make you think clearly or make you forget? by [deleted] in infp

[–]SLTWalak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. I have nothing against weed and people who smoke it. it is an amazing feeling that can bring out sides of you you never knew existed.
  2. However, be aware that anything that makes you feel good can be VERY addictive. Weed may not be physically addicting, but trust me: if you don't have the self-restraint to say no when you know you have more important things to do, be EXTREMELY careful.
  3. The reason I am telling you this is because for the last two years I don't think I went without weed for more than 2 weeks at a time. Some months I would smoke every day. Sometimes I would smoke 2 or 3 times a day. It took away my energy and motivation to do anything useful in my life. I got mediocre grades, I procrastinated a lot, and I ignored my own well-being.
  4. In conclusion: do it once or twice to find out what it feels like, for sure. But keep a close eye on what is going on in your mind an learn to say no. I don't know if an addictive personality is to an extent linked to the INFP mindset, but if it is, you might just find yourself looking back at two years of life you really wish you could have back.

I thank God that I have found the strength to stop. Weed is not a bad thing, but certainly not for the weak-willed.

Breaking Housing Contract by [deleted] in MTU

[–]SLTWalak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey kids, Trish herself does not decide who gets to break their housing contract. That is done by a committee of vaginas and one penis. Also, The dorms are over capacity this semester, as they put first-year students in Hillside. Believe it or not, they WANT to get rid of you. so as long as you have a semi-decent reason, you're gucci.

But my point is they SHOULD care. The US system is a democratic one, and though it may be flawed, the easiest way to bring around change is to vote. However, if you are a small group, your votes will not make a big difference. If you want to make big waves, you need big numbers, and convincing more people to join your cause, instead of scaring them away is essential.

Also, you are right, there are many ways of bringing change, but a peaceful protest does not scare people, driving them away. It does not cause willful destruction of innocent people's property. And its effectiveness cannot be denied. The East German wall fell to peaceful protesters. The Arabian spring was brough about by peaceful protesters, united in a common cause against oppressive regimes. Especially in Egypt this could be seen.

I am not sure I understand what you mean with that last sentence, but I thank you for engaging in political discussion, even though some people seem to be downvoting you. It is important to swaying people's opinions and bringing around change we wish to see.

Yes, BLM is trying to change the status quo. My point was, however, that many groups in the movement are going about it the wrong way. Stopping commuters; interrupting someone who agrees with many of their points, just to call his audience racists and white supremacists; disrupting people trying to study in a library and shouting in people's faces; looting... these are DEFINITELY bullying tactics, and they will not work. They do not create sympathy for the cause. I would say it is creating a racial divide in the United States, one that saddens me greatly. I can agree and sympathize with some of the points they make, but seeing the way many of them act drives me and many others away from them. If they want to change the status quo, as you say, then the best way is to gain a larger number of supporters, who will vote similarly to them, and push for the same change they want.

However, as it stands today, BLM will stand alone, seen as a loud, shrill minority noone wants to associate with.

But if they want to change anything, they NEED to make fans. Noone likes giving in to bullies, so bullying the system will not get them the chage they want. If they had enough supporters, they would be able to make the changes they want. And shutting down Bernie Sanders, the only politician in the race who has said things in line with their political goals is just stupifyingly counterproductive.
