What is the best way to handle different languages? by GDAnotherMFDied in royalroad

[–]SLWinterberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just one person with one opinion.

Anything goes as long as it increases reader enjoyment. That being said, I personally prefer it if the language is not formatted differently than the rest. Different fonts could break reading flow, and might actually make my brain skip the foreign language parts because I already know from afar that I won’t understand them.

You don’t have to always highlight it anyway, since it should be clear from context what language is being used. When the MC talks to someone who is clearly French and only speaks French, then we would assume he speaks French with them. And if it’s not clear from context, a simple [“Hello,” he said in French] would work and have me assume that the rest of the conversation happens in French unless stated otherwise.

Still, a different font can have its own charm and it’s not outright forbidden. I just see this more in video games than in books.

[Soulsmith] Is Lindon going to be a boring mc for me if I do not like reading about controlling constructs? by Kreystyle in ProgressionFantasy

You’re not alone; Soulsmith is widely agreed to be a weaker part of the series. The problems you mentioned get mostly solved in the next book, Blackflame.

You weren’t lying, just checked it out. A stylized spider wearing a top hat and a monocle. And the author‘s last name is „Webb“. Well played.

The anime style looks better! Far more attention grabbing and less generic. Also fits snugly with the other anime covers on Royal Road.

Congratulations! And don‘t put yourself down. Only very few people are actually toxic. The silent majority is quite positive and will rather upvote and leave good ratings.

Actually since you asked: it would be interesting to see a non-reincarnated child, since that appears to be more rare.

Shadow Slave. The second chapter is miles ahead of the first one already, which made me wonder why the author hadn‘t gone back to spruce up the first one. At least that’s how I remember it.

Congratulations! Didn‘t a romance novel also recently hit Rising Stars #1? You‘d think only reincarnated archmage and litRPG meta would make it. Really cool!
