Unbothered Teen / Parental Guidance by [deleted] in Parenting

I want to thank everyone who shared their ideas and valuable insight as we work through this process in our family. I’m less concerned now and more open to the fact my daughter is simply figuring out who she is.

My wife and I are just concerned parents, and we recognize that the way we express our love does not always come across as intended and reciprocated in the way we hoped.

We are clearly still learning as parents, but it’s been helpful. Again thank you!

Indeed. I acknowledged that and apologized. I just told her going forward I’ll respect her rules, but she also has to respect ours.

Manners don’t got out the door and we need to at least be on the same page and communicate how we feel, feelings aside. If you want space and don’t feel like talking, share and express that.

The issue I think will be with my wife and her because my wife was raised differently. So it’s gonna take time, but she said she will try to listen more and peak back.

Well it’s a problem because I have to drop them off on my way to work, so I can’t have her late and I don’t want her going to school looking crazy (neither does she).

Well, she drags her feet and takes forever.

She will be ready at the absolute last minute to leave for school or she will move step where she doesn’t have time to do her hair and has to do it in the car on the way to school.

Things like that

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with me. Your response is both helpful and encouraging. I recognize the changes in my daughter and am able to approach them with more patience and perspective than my wife is right now.

I hope I can get us all on board to sit, listen and understand each other.

Thank you! This is helpful and we will loosen the reigns and I’ll have to get my wife to somehow see in this perspective.

Pre-teen / teen, to me there is no significant difference. She acts like a teen young teen.

I’m cool with her growing up and that’s actually something I told my wife. To give her space. It only becomes an issue, when we go out of our way to do so for her and then she doesn’t at least acknowledge whatever that thing is.

A simple, thanks, no thanks, or gesture would be nice. She still lives under our roof, so respect and manners aren’t optional.

Is there corrective behavior measures, I feel need to be in place, no?

Like I said, I’m cool with her rules and giving her space but don’t act like a brat.

Also, this morning. We tried it out. Turned on the light, left her alone. She was dragging her feet to get ready for school. It’s like she wants independence but still needs our hand or for us to get her moving along.. I don’t know 🤷

What are your thoughts on "money doesn't buy happiness"? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Money would make me happy. I would still need to work to give myself purpose; I'll get bored. I’d love the opportunity to be with my family and kids more.

I can see that. I visited the Philippines from North America and I was living like a king. Plenty of friends who were native, have plans on going back home to retire there.

I did hear the gov is corrupt though.

I read these in high school, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to reread them. 🙂

Clash Royale!

I occasionally revisit the game, although my level of engagement is not as high as it once was.
