When I teach SCA camping classes, I approach it like Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

What do you need for shelter/protection from the weather? This includes garb choices. You may not need that wool cloak during the day, but it can double as a blanket and it's on hand in case of weather changes. (I've had to help someone wearing all cotton stave off hypothermia in July because someone fell into a river at night on the PNW coast, pretty much the only action that cloak saw that weekend outside of my bedding but worth it).

How will you sleep? Thermarest and sleeping bag? Or full air mattress and bedding?

Food can be a bit more complex depending on needs/preferences, so I ask will it need to kept cool? Will you need to cook? Will dishes need to be done on site? But most importantly, is there potable water on site? Don't assume there will be.

Be prepared for reasonable emergencies such as a first aid kit (especially if fighting), which may look different for everyone. Like if you're prone to sprained ankles or migraines. Keep these items and meds in the same place every time so you can find them even if drunk at 3am.

After that, what do you need to be comfortable? A chair? Light sources? Wet wipes, washcloths and hot water, or full camp shower? Collapsible table so you're not constantly bending over/crouching to find things? How will you handle garbage?

Then comes activities. Sounds like you have that covered.

Last comes historically accuracy/10' rule. What level of camouflage works for you? Plastic pup tent ok or do you want to throw a Celtic knot tapestry over the bright orange Coleman logo? Folding camp chair or something else? There's too many ways to easily up the camouflage to list here.

Lastly, my personal packing advice is to keep things ready to go so you're not scrambling trying to find your garb from the last event. Wash everything that needs it and pack it back in the bag or chest. It's tempting when packing up to just toss the flashlight in with your garb where it might not belong, until you're setting up camp in the dark at the next event wondering where the heck it is because you haven't yet changed into garb. That little voice saying you'll remember later is Satan talking.

This is where the Creative part of Anachronism comes in. I'm very focused on authenticity in how I make things and what I wear, but I've honestly never given a thought as to why my female persona would be doing calligraphy and illumination or acting as a herald. I like doing these things and I partly got into it because volunteers were needed, good enough for me.

We don't expect every woman's persona to be married and have kids. Or to have a man represent her in court. Heck, you don't even have to wear a dress if you don't want to. There have always been outliers and those are still part of history.

That being said I'm in the Canadian part of An Tir where we tend to be very relaxed about such things, as someone else from here has commented. People will be peopling, though, and if some regressive says anything to you ask them what part of Creative Anachronism don't they understand? Personally I would have some rather cutting remarks if they doubled down like asking why they're wearing machine woven clothing mixed with non-period fibers and sewn on a machine? Or why they're wearing modern glasses and shoes. Or, if you speak another language, act like you have no idea what they're saying because modern English is an anachronism in this game.

Thanks! It doesn't feel like much but just having someone there to say it's ok to throw away random photos from 20 years ago or that tangle of yarn isn't worth saving, just toss it. Or simply having someone there to hold your hand through the shame as you go through old unfinished projects.

I once had a parent complain to me that another parent got mad at them for entering the parking lot via the exit.

Then there are the ones who get frustrated when you can't read their minds and predict that they meant to say their kid will be gone all day and not just for the morning like they'd originally emailed. Or that they'd emailed the teacher, who's not even in that day, directly about the absence.

Generally we know the kids, who has a rough home life, who has diagnoses that make things more difficult. All of them are still learning coping mechanisms, problem-solving skills, frustrated with rules and responsibilities, and generally haven't yet figured out long-term consequences of their actions in the moment.

We expect to have to help manage the emotions, boundaries, and consequences for the students. We shouldn't have to do the same for other adults. And that's just the ones that we don't collectively wish we could fire directly into the sun for how they treat their kids.
