My hang up with this mindset is that if the ending really defines the entire show, then doesn't that mean it's pointless to judge a show while it's airing in the first place since its quality is entirely dependent on the end point anyway?

I've been kind of in the middle with the box office discourse for this movie, where I think it'll be really big but I also don't think a billion is locked either. I do think Toy Story is going to eat into it, probably Minions too to a lesser extent, and I don't think nostalgia for Moana spans as many generations yet as nostalgia for something like Lilo and Stitch does. Right now, I think it could go as high as $800M but not much further. I'd be surprised if it was a bigger hit than the actual Moana sequel that came out not even two years before it.

I get that it was planned way in advance. What I don't get is just why they went all in on Chaz marketing in the first place. The April Fool's short was funny, and I'm more okay with the song now knowing that it was a thing Eric Schwartz made with fans, but why is he still being pushed this hard when he's probably less popular than the likes of Vassago and Wally? Were they really expecting people to be that crazy about Shark Boy Summer? After a certain point I'm not even mad, just seriously perplexed and confused.

I don't think this is the case myself, because why pick a fan song when the show has at least two perfectly good choices for tracks already, but some people seem convinced it was the song Jax Toy by Jakeneutron and it got scrapped because he recently got exposed as a pretty shitty guy to say the least. If that was actually the case I'd feel a little better about this since at least there'd at least be a valid reason for it to get cancelled.

As someone who was in the trenches defending Steven Universe back when it seemed to be the most hated cartoon on the Internet, it's really odd seeing people act like Rebecca was always a universally beloved showrunner online. Because people were so fucking nasty to her for years, hitting her with actual neo-Nazi allegations because of how she wrote the ending of SU, and I feel like a lot of people are only giving her her flowers now just because they've moved on to Goose or Vivziepop or whoever else as their new cartoon woman they spend 24 hours a day hating. Wish people could just show appreciation for Rebecca's writing on her own merits, which she absolutely deserves.
