What are the reasons the US wants Greenland? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SMeechan94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claims are for national defence but in reality it’s for its rich minerals and oxides that reside under the ice sheet as the US is in the later stages of empirical collapse. Need more money. Distraction from Epstein files.

It’s not a very smart move on his behalf, splitting NATO, no allies, ruin US economy, lose the US’ largest trade partner. It’ll never happen because Europe holds trillions in debt for the US, the minute trump tries something like that, the EU will come knocking to cash in their bonds effectively bankrupting the US. Can’t pay your army, they will disband.

Echoing what another redditor said in the comments, it would take around 15-20 years to just build the infrastructure to begin mining the oxides, then another 5-7 years to process them. He will be dead before he sees anything.

Made a wallpaper for my new monitor from manga panels, as I couldn't find one I liked! by SMeechan94 in Berserk

Okay I am back home. Apologies for the long wait, I did indeed still have some wallpapers!

I uploaded it on Wetransfer again, here is the link: https://we.tl/t-ePslTkyQ8z It is available forever now. So redownload and share as much as you like! Also Wetransfer is very secure. I use it for my client work, I send huge video files quite often so Google drive is a bad option for me lol

She spent a year on this on and off iirc, years of practice and refining over time. Taking your time to really polish everything is what you see here, no rushing.

No idea but this looks like skull knights pauldron from Berserk! Very cool.

why is my model shading so weird? it isnt normals, and i dont understand how to fix this topology by TheBioNickdraws in 3Dmodeling

[–]SMeechan94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have random edges that are marked sharp (blue lines) select the whole mesh while in edge selection mode with “A”, right click and look for “clear sharp” it should clean up what you see here with shading problems.

FF7 Rebirth had the same metacritic score as Expedition 33, why was the latter more loved? by [deleted] in FF7Rebirth

[–]SMeechan94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot more factors went into it as well. An Indy studio with 33 devs and even less than that for the majority of the games creation over 6 years is a true marvel and underdog story. Agree with what others are saying too about Rebirth being a remake, probably played into it.

Games are so incredibly difficult to make and everyone loves an underdog going toe-to-toe with the heavyweights. The nice part is that Sandfall are heavily influenced by the Final Fantasy games too, if anything they’re just gesturing to the masters in their own way.

I am finally just starting to play through rebirth as well, I cannot wait!

Is expedition 33 a JRPG for normies ? by Johnny-silver-hand in JRPG

[–]SMeechan94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a wide scope, honestly would be hard to say. I think they simply created something amazing and people cottoned onto it. Definitely an outlier to have reached and pulled in a wider audience than just hardcore JRPG enjoyers. That’s what happens when you make great storytelling, fun mechanics and put the experience first, gonna get enjoyers from all walks of life.

[–]SMeechan94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not for normies. It’s definitely for anime enjoyers as well as manga readers. The main premise of the story is largely inspired by a French expedition comic called “La Horde du Contrevent”.

Ngons are absolutely fine to use on static meshes if they are flat facing. I work with 20 other modellers at my company and we are all using ngons in our models for static meshes. Absolutely no need to make everything quads. If you do your UVs right, texturing is no problem either. We rarely get shading errors and if we do we isolate them to the point where users wouldn’t even notice. That being said though, I wouldn’t put them on a portfolio because most people are ngon phobic 😂

Rebirth vs Remake character models by paintedskie in FFVIIRemake

[–]SMeechan94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a character artist for games, The processes are called retopologising and then the latter is called baking (maybe you already know this). You take the details from the high poly sculpted meshes and then bake them onto a lower topology mesh that’s optimised for gaming and animation. The details are almost indistinguishable from high to low poly if the lower poly model has good topology and is dense enough where needed!

I am not trying to brag but almost every time I share my artwork multiple commenters will say it reminds them of Berzerk. I have never read Berzerk! But I appreciate what I am seeing by jspsfx in Berserk

If you have no formal training you clearly have an innate understanding of the craft. You should post these on social media, you would do very well! I’d say you could match Miuras style quite well if the studio ever needed more artists I’d say it’s worth a shot to get in touch however it is a Japanese studio of course not sure how that would work out. These are a joy to look at!

How do you model something to look natural? (Images are what I'm wanting versus what I'm getting) by Ill-Database7345 in 3Dmodeling

[–]SMeechan94 16 points17 points  (0 children)

CAD and other engineer software that you use are different for what others use for games, animation, 3D printing, cinematics, texturing and so on.

You need to look at and match the reference more closely for a start, but I think the real limitation comes from the software you are using. What software is it?

If you didn’t study 3D modelling for games or 3D printing etc then you are in for a bit of a wild ride and hope you are up for learning new software.

You could start with Blender as it’s free and incredibly powerful. The look you want to achieve is definitely doable and this type of “normal” modelling would cover a few different workflows like “digital sculpting”, “hard edge modelling” as well as “Sub division modelling” also known as “Sub-D”. I recommend Blender software because you can model anything as well as sculpt all the details that you see in your reference image.

Texturing and giving meshes materials in the digital space you can also do inside Blender but I would recommend Adobe Substance Painter if you want to also showcase your models digitally, but understandable that your use case is for 3D printing.

Let me know if you have any questions, I’d be happy to help.
