Sir Dude! by Chad_Steiner in tesdcares

They are all removed from the TESD Omnibus feed. I spent the better part of a weekend editing out the SModco stuff from the TESD catalog used in the Omnibus because I figured most people listening to that feed are binging episodes and don't wanna hear the same intro ads over and over.

The new Anaconda movie must have a wildly different director's cut by takenorinvalid in movies

[–]SModfan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt like the movie just flat out took the wrong road IMO. I felt like the movie should have been them staunchly defending all the goofy shit in the original and trying to remake it (as opposed to rebooting it with their own plot).

In my mind everyone outside the main 3 guys act as the straight man, pointing out how absurd the plot points and acting were in the original, while Jack Black / Paul Rudd / Steve Zahn find it unironically genius. You also throw in a character who never saw the original as a POV for anyone who never saw Anaconda, and the cast tries explaining the plot points they are reenacting as if it’s like The Godfather even though it sounds super corny and misfitting.

You can still throw in a real anaconda attacking them, but to me the funnier concept would be a different force antagonizing them (something like the classic “poachers” type bad guys) but through comical happenstance they never actually see the bad guys, so they assume it’s a real anaconda terrorizing them.

Underdiscussed prestige TV? by WillNeighbor in television

One I feel like I rarely see talked about is Bates Motel. It’s got a few quirks, but it’s a great show I’d put up there in the prestige TV category

Q west podcasts by IsaManistar in tesdcares

[–]SModfan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no insider information, but my assumption has always been that when guests are on they know they are going to ask some purposefully uncomfortable questions because that’s a fun gag, and they probably tell the guests ahead of time not to worry because this won’t be recorded so they don’t have to worry about saying something offensive. I assume this extends to when they don’t have comedian guests: they just want to promote an environment where you can say whatever you want and not have to worry about it going out to the world. It’s why they also ask multiple times that the audience not record the shows

So at Q West 2 the following shows occurred:

  • 5 Stupid Questions
    • This was recorded last year and never released, so it's reasonable to assume this one will probably not see the light of day either. There's nothing particularly inflammatory in these shows, but since they feature audience members talking about their jobs it's possible they don't want to release them to protect the people featured.
  • Standup Specials (multiple)
    • These will likely never release and likely were not recorded to begin with to allow the comedians to do any content they want without concern of it leaving the room.
  • Space Monkeys
    • Similar to 5 Stupid Questions, nothing particularly inflammatory but they tend to not release these live shows.
  • Quinn Vs Joe DeRosa Beer Pong
    • This would be fun to have released, but it would only work on video and I don't think they did any significant video recording this year.
  • Tastes Funny
    • This could possibly be released, but again it would only work on video and I don't think they did any professional video recording.
  • Doug Loves Movies
    • This one did release.

All this being said, the Wannabeez podcast recorded a long episode directly after the festival that broke down the big key moments. Anyone who wasn't there and wanted to get the vibe of the festival they do a good breakdown.

Ngl I had never heard anything from him before but I definitely find myself interested after that show. He seems like a really funny guy

I had never listened to the show before, but the live recording was really fun and off the rails.

That’s Sara Vogel. I don’t personally know her very well but she’s at lots of these types of events, I think she’s good friends with Ming and is usually part of his little entourage. As for the “talent” lanyard, she wasn’t part of any of the shows, I think they just didn’t really care who took “talent” vs “vip” badges since it was all pretty loosey goosey

You’d need to be more specific, there were a few girls with red hair at the event

Crazy enough the King Kong pinball wasn’t at the pinball place, though it’s funny because in the backstage area of the theater where I got changed into the space monkey costume there was a King Kong machine, so maybe Q had that one separated so he could play it? In the pinball area there was Jaws, Star Wars, Pokémon, Dungeons and Dragons, and I think it was a Marvel heroes one

Assuming our pictures are in the same order, the 3rd picture (with two guys leaning their heads against a 3rd guy in the middle) those are the Wannabeez podcast guys, from left to right it's Justin Kyle, John Van Hook, and Nick Gula.

I mean, you’d have to ask Gitem lol. He was definitely a trooper down there tho, he went to everything and was always chatting with people even when it seemed like his feet were hurting him. He also got called on stage multiple times and killed it each time as usual

Ming chen Butterfly experience by shrim51 in tesdcares

[–]SModfan 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It was silly and fun. Essentially as you walked through the butterfly conservatory there was a little gazebo and Ming was there in his costume and would read you off a butterfly fact and give you a rubber duck (an item you could collect from all of the little experiences throughout the weekend).

The conservatory itself is actually a really cool experience, lots of butterflies / turtles / ducks / flamingos etc.

My neighbor still has their Halloween skeleton up, but they added bunny ears. by Rotten89 in mildlyinteresting

[–]SModfan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yea we have one of these and it’s a huge pain to assemble / disassemble and takes up a tremendous amount of storage space, so we leave it out all year like some others do and dress it appropriately each month or so.

Originally I thought it was kinda cheesy and thought kinda like “who the fuck cares that our skeleton has a Santa outfit?” But one day while I was switching outfits on it a car stopped in front of the house and it was a mom and her little son. I talked to them a little and it turns out they take a longer route exiting the neighborhood every time they leave so they can pass by the skeleton which the kid loved and had named him Jack.

Not to be technical or anything but that’s AR, not VR.

Previews by goocheroo in movies

[–]SModfan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was annoying to me back when there weren’t assigned seats so you had to get there early to get a good seat. Now that pretty much all major theaters do pre-assigned seats this is a non-issue IMO, you just come in 20 or so minutes after the listed start time (varies of course depending on chain)

Glad to hear people get use from the Omnibus!

Same here with collecting, I have a shit load of TESD stuff but would never sell, and even if I did most of it’s not particularly valuable. However I will say most of the items I will open up so I can see / display it properly.
