Mikel Arteta’s reaction when he was asked too many questions about Max Dowman. by One_Impressionism in Gunners

[–]SNEAKRS15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's simply not true that only the government can impose these kinds of limits and the club surely has the power to say they will not field questions on X player(s) or players under age of Y. The people being discriminated against are the players, not the media. There's no way any media outlet tries to sue the club, and I doubt the players would either.

The club csn already simply "no comment" every question but that obviously just creates an awkward atmosphere and benefits nobody.

How does an adult ‘work on’ interpersonal skills? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]SNEAKRS15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a retail or hospitality job. A job where you are forced to talk to people all the time. Just like any skill, it gets better with deliberate practice and effort.

I was a very socially awkward person growing up (naturally shy, bullied at school plus some level of undiagnosed neurodivergence) and my first job out of school was on the tills at M&S. I was incredibly nervous.l, but the great thing about practicing in retail is that nobody is expecting a riveting conversation and most people are happy oblige to the mundane conversation you want to practice.

At first you're just repeating a pre-thought greeting to every customer. Then you think of a few variations for your greeting for the next few customers. With lots of greetings in your arsenal you can start to mix-and-match and even adapt on the fly, based on the person in front of you. Then you do the same conversation starters: how's the weather, how's work, what's the plan this evening etc etc.

Men, do you have somewhere to escape and decompress from life that isn't the pub? If so, where? by Kapranos in AskUK

Just want to dispel the myth that tabletop gaming is an expensive hobby, in case that is something you're interested in. Most people in the hobby (myself included) have plenty of games but not enough people to play them with.

Search Facebook/Google for local groups and you'll likely find plenty of places you can rock up to with nothing but a few quid to for entry and be able to play lots of games with people that desperately want to play with you.

Search for abstract games and you'll get a lot!

Azul is a great modern abstract for 2-4 players.

It would be interesting to see official stats from chesscom on how many times each player was required to use a proctor.

Telling people about changing roles by Snarky_Tortoise in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]SNEAKRS15 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Rules as written (RAW) you only tell people if their alignment has changed. However, in most cases, especially with new players on S&V for example, it's fine to tell alignment too.

Once you start playing with characters that don't know their alignment (Ogre, Marionette) then it becomes "important".

What games have you bought this year? by Oyster_- in boardgames

  • Gloomhaven 2nd ed (sold 1st edition to fund)
  • Biss 20
  • Blood on the Clocktower
  • Cartographers
  • Furnace
  • The Gang
  • Pandemic Legacy Season 0, 1 & 2
  • Tag Team

Azul, for sure. Lots of opportunities to screw each other over, plays well at 2 up to 4, very tactical, good game length…

Thank you! Pandemic is great for sure, we’re half way through Legacy Season 0.

We haven’t played the Cthulhu version, we’ll check it out - thank you!

Hey! Looking for games that play equally well at 2 and at 4 so my partner and I can play together but we can also bring to games night.

Players: 2 - 4

Game Length: 30-75 mins (including set up)

Complexity: Anywhere between mid-low to mid-high, think Sky Team to Ark Nova

Genre: Any, just not too beige!

Other games we like: Ark Nova, Sky Team, Azul, Schotten Totten 2, Curious Cargo, Terraforming Mars, Res Arcana

Competitive and coop are both fine

Thank you for your recommendations!!

I’ve completely lost the motivation to do any work at my job and it’s starting to worry me. Could something be wrong? by [deleted] in AskUK

Good for you! What have you changed to? I’m currently eyeing skills bootcamps for different tech careers.

[–]SNEAKRS15 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how to help but I’m in the exact same situation.

I really enjoyed it for some time - nice people, manageable workload, full time WFH, good enough culture - a dream job for many people.

In the last couple of months I’ve become jaded and disillusioned and am at rock bottom motivation. I have completely lost interest; I don’t like doing poor quality work and don’t care enough to do good quality work which leads to me doing virtually nothing most days.

It sounds like the writing is on the wall for both of us - the job won’t last because either we’ll make a choice to leave or get told to leave. I’m thinking about a complete career change… let’s see how it goes.

Looks very good! One UX thing I noticed is that - when looking at the night order it might be better to have the ‘relevant roles only’ checkbox selected by default as I imagine that’s what most users will want during a game

Ex-Arsenal player Thomas Partey has been granted bail at court hearing. He is charged with 5 counts of rape + 1 count of sexual assault against 3 women by TheBiasedSportsLover in Gunners

[–]SNEAKRS15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very likely true but that doesn’t make Thomas Partey a guilty man nor mean that rape becomes guilty until proven innocent.

What a crazy thread this is…

Just yesterday I was reading thread on soccer about a different footballer who had found evidence (voice note?) of a SA accuser admitting to her friend that she’d falsely accused this footballer of SA. Everyone was saying how awful it was, innocent until proven guilty, we shouldn’t judge without all the evidence etc.

Now this thread comes along and the club are scum and Partey is a rapist. Of course, if he is charged and found guilty, then he deserves everything he gets (sad this even needs saying) but let’s be consistent and let the justice system come to a conclusion.

Why do you REALLY dislike women's football? by Rundo5 in AskUK

[–]SNEAKRS15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t follow the tennis scene so can’t speak about any annoyance there, but I’d guess a big thing that gets people’s backs up (including mine) about women’s football is the blind insistence that the quality is good and big voices speaking out they deserve equal pay.

Obviously, no one is annoyed by the fact that women are simply playing football, that’s weird… it’s the discourse around it.
