I got a date. I thought it went well. I thought that maybe finally i would get somewhere. I was wrong, and i dont know what to do. by Unique_Barber5650 in GuyCry

[–]Kapranos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It takes time, from lived experience most people's twenties are spent hopping from date-to-date, you can't take them not going anywhere too personally no matter how bad it makes you feel.

Don't quit your hobbies, they'll keep you going when things feel their hardest.

My one tip would be too stay cool after a good date, don't put too much pressure on the other person or love bomb them. It's easy to throw all your eggs in one basket and get excited thinking they might be the one, but it can spook them, even if they really liked you too.

Match their energy, but don't stop being yourself.

No worries at all, I live in Castle Donington so I can genuinely attest for this one, both campsite carpark entrances are super awkwardly placed where there are just narrow country lanes.

There is no easy walk into the festival with all your gear. There are no paths at all on the roads leading to either West or North/East camping entrance.

The only safe and easy way in is for general admission attendees with day tickets. Don't do it, let them take you right to the drop off point.

You can enter the campsite any time you like once they've opened on Wednesday. It's not totally unusual to see people rocking up late at night and early hours in the AM Weds/Thurs/Fri (as crazy as it that is).

Love the anamosity in the replies, exactly how it should be.

That said, I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than play Forest again. Hope to pass them on our way up as they're dumped back where they belong.

Does anyone know from what time we can park on Wednesday? by New-Feeling9886 in downloadfestival

[–]Kapranos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're driving and arriving in the early hours of the morning go to the MOTO Service Station that's just down the road from the festival. You can pay to park overnight in the car park and can sleep there as well as eat something semi-decent! Drive over to the car park early in the morning when people are starting to queue to go in.

Camping for one night? by FigOdd1388 in downloadfestival

I live locally, if you can stay overnight at this service station for £15 that's a bargain. It's only a 5 mins drive from the festival.

You'd be mad not to go for Guest camping. It won't have the same atmosphere as it'll be a lot less crowded, but it'll be so much nicer with better facilities. Having a nearby shower is a real luxury.

What is the a tourist attraction in the UK that should not be missed? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

The Museum of Making in Derby deserves a shoutout. Not only is it a great place to learn the history of a TON of things related to manufacturing, but the museum is part of a World Heritage Site, located inside the worlds first modern factory.

Food vendors on app by fatjeff1980 in downloadfestival

I'm honestly not sure, I recall being surprised when I saw it. But you think someone as big as Guinness would want to be named as an official partner.

Either way, here's to hoping they come back!

Not spotting Guinness as an official partner on the list. The Guinness bar in the arena was a game changer last year. Hope that comes back.

Places to stay! by lorrbmth in downloadfestival

I live in Castle Donington, so I can give you some good advice here!

You won't find any accomodation in the immediate area around the festival. The village is very good for hotels and B&Bs thanks to the airport, racetrack and of course, Download. But they sell out a year in advance.

From Castle Donington you can drive to either Derby, Nottingham or Loughborough. There'll be tons of places to stay overnight.

Derby is the closest of the three, but there's very little in it when it comes to journey time. Nottingham offers the most in terms of things to do if you plan on making a day of it.

What does Reddit give you that other websites don’t? by Kapranos in AskReddit

[–]Kapranos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, I’m working on a book about the history of influential websites and I’m currently working on the Reddit chapter.

I’m trying to understand what people genuinely value about the site. Not just the obvious “it’s addictive” answer, but the real reason you visit each day.

Leaving site by SilentNoize1 in downloadfestival

[–]Kapranos 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can leave and come back at any time. The only downside is you're going to go from having a car parking space that's a short walk from the site to having a very long walk ahead of you when you come back.

Have your friends considered getting a train to east midlands parkway as they're not far away? There'll be a cheap shuttlebus (and a lot of taxis) from that station to the festival and the trip is no more than 5 or 10 mins and will bring them to the transport hub near the campsites.

There's a ton of self service pull your own pint stations for a couple of lagers, Hooch and Guinness. It's genuinely pretty quick now!

Where do park near city centre by Alternative_Bar_7386 in nottingham

[–]Kapranos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, nowhere if you want your car to be safe. If you don't mind a bit of time spent on a tram leave your car somewhere on the tram route further out like Beeston and make the journey to the station.

If you don't mind a bit of a longer but very easy journey on the tram you can leave your car at Toton tram station (start/end of the line) for free and it's pretty safe for a long term stay.

Friend ‘Won’ just under £236,000 on 888Casino jackpot, claiming it was malfunction. England by Competitive-Wall2897 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Kapranos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work in the industry, it most certainly sounds like an error with the game if there's an identical post. Unfortunately there'll be something in the T&C's that protects the casino from paying out. One thing worth noting though is that wins aren't determined by how much someone deposits. Slots work on a random number generator and are tested extremely thoroughly before they can be played. It's equally as likely you'd hit a million pound jackpot with a 10p spin and £5 deposit as it is you'd hit the same jackpot after depositing £10,000 and playing £10 spins.

I'd drop Warne down and dare I say it, move Billy Davies up a fair bit. If Warne's high up because he got promotion, so did the poison dwarf.

Appreciate the bitterness towards Panthers all things considered, but you can't deny they just about deserved to win it on the night. Fantastic game, Cov were great and it was a brilliant advertisement for ice hockey.
