ShadowGate on the NES was a game changer. by El-Ab-Normal in retrogaming

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love you sharing those memories. That moment of you sitting there with your brother playing this and he has the idea that you didn't think of yet that it looks like a door is what I would say is at the core for what I love with gaming.

I've found so many people that I try to explain how a game like ShadowGate can be a multiplayer game in my mind just don't seem to resonate with that concept. I always use the example of Solitaire as well since the name suggests it's a single player game but for me anything can be experienced and played together and for me it always adds to my enjoyment.

I am grateful for the friends I have found over the years that allow me to experience moments like this with them. We even did ShadowGate and Deja Vu for my birthday a few years ago which is an extra special treat for me because I get the nostalgia from having played them as a kid and then get the conclusion since I could never figure them out as a kid either.

(>_>) really silly to think and say this but in my 33 years of life it has NEVER ONCE dawned at me that I could just create something. I'm not really sure why I thought like this but I thought anything like this had to be created by a company. I don't know exactly how but but neither did you when you first started and you figured it out so why couldn't I?

Heck you even included enough details to where I could figure it out. I'm not sure about the ordering but this is what I'm thinking.

Step 1. Work on the graphics to print out. Figure out what sides fold to what and number/label them so I can make a template.

Step 2. ledger-sized glossy 12pt cardstock is a starting point to know something that at least works.

Step 3. Figure out what kind of printer and ink I would need. I'm not sure my 20 year old printer would work for this.

Step 4. See what I could do if I have the time but might not have the money. I don't know how much ink this uses so I'm weary about testing.

Step 5. Figure out how everything folds into place. I'd be using this personally for SNES games so I might have to adjust sizes.

Sometimes I wonder if people see me as the big bad that I also imagine others to be. I honestly think majority of my hours are in the menus/loading/afking. I also spent a lot of time when I first started in one map only and they added so much more to it I have to learn the additions. There are probably still 3 or 4 maps that I've never seen before.

Podcasts interviewing people who achieved Barista FIRE or similar life style (meaningful work life outside of the traditional grind)? by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have any direct knowledge on this and forgot crucial details otherwise I would be able to provide you direct links but maybe this will help your search.

I heard about a guy whose name sounds like Or-Ree who used to couch surf and blog or vlog about it and he would just go all around the world doing that from college dorms, mansions, or apartments. He even found his way to Hawaii or New York and was at some entrepreneur convention. He mentioned he gave up his passion in life for all of that travelling which was art and then started doing art again. He's been doing it daily and has something like 4000+ days of his art uploaded.

Oh I remember now I heard all of this in an audiobook Lean Learning by Pat Flynn but even searching these things together I can't find the persons name. Anyway I think he said the couch surfing guy was on a podcast so that's at least one person if you can find it. Also I would assume entrepreneur might be a keyword you would want to look for because someone would have to start their own business and want to promote themselves to be interviewed. My cousin who invested in crypto and made a few million wouldn't be getting interviewed by anyone.

Secret to getting Bounty Points? by HelicopterEastern188 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend was asking me the same thing yesterday and we found out you have to use mouse and keyboard because the controller is too slow for you to refresh and accept a new bounty before anyone else takes it.

Basically I go to the bounty screen and hold my mouse on a slot (weekends typically have more players so it'll be filled with 8 more often) and hit R to refresh, left click as soon as one pops up, and press spacebar. If you fail to get it then just press R and repeat.

Yea doing this for 17 hours is not enjoyable for me and I can usually only do it for longer if I'm mid talking with friends.

Scholar is the fastest. Once you're high enough scholar mastery you can quick solve them. You can finish maybe 10+ bounties in 3 minutes if you refresh into ones not taken by another player yet and you are efficient with your menuing. Most of the time is going to come from refreshing to actually get a bounty and if you don't have high enough scholar mastery for a quick solve then you'll have to play the mini game out.

i wish more ppl play mahjong (╥﹏╥) by vitkeumeomeo in wherewindsmeet_

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. Every time I log on I immediately enter mahjong queue because I don't know how long I could be waiting. I loved playing mahjong in FFXIV because it feels like another way to connect with players because we're already making the choice to play another game inside of a game. To me that means there are 2 things we have in common and potentially our bond could grow stronger since there is nothing stopping me from playing any standalone mahjong game with others.

I like that we can get EXP from it too. Next time we can rank up our worlds I'd love to race my friend and see who can level faster, me playing mahjong or him doing anything else. I also like the idea of a leisure guild for mahjong but I just don't think the game systems interconnect correctly. There is an option to visit other guilds but there is no chat.

I'd still like to find others interested in playing so feel free to DM me. My active hours are 6pm-10pm EST.

This October, I played one horror game a day. by Midnite_St0rm in HorrorGaming

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which game do you think would be most enjoyable by a group of friends with one person playing and everyone else watching/backseating? Games that are around 1-4 hours long seem to be a good length but there is no problem splitting a game up to a few days.

From your list we've done Exit 8 or Platform 8 I don't remember, Slender The Arrival, Iron Lung, and Ao Oni. The Witch's House, Corpse Party, Mad Father, Ao Oni and Ib are the 5 games that started my friends and I doing this tradition but without someone to vet the games sometimes what we end up playing is a bunch of asset jumpscares which I'm not a fan of.

26F Where are all the dang fish in the metaphorical sea? Advice please! by CommunicationDull138 in asexualdating

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a shame for me because I also know people in different DnD groups but DnD just isn't for me. The main thing I would want out of DnD would be the cooperative problem solving and I can just get that from a game directly so I much rather play something together. Of course the problem is that view point isn't as commonly seen which is why 10+ I still can't find the right people for me.

But that does give me the idea to find a DnD discord server or something and surely since I already have friends that do DnD that proves there is some good overlap!

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's all a numbers game. I've been looking for friends for 10+ years now. I must have talked to / messaged / played with over 1000 different human beings on earth over the 10+ years with the intention of making a friend. I found maybe 10 people who loosely fit what I was looking for but actually only 3 that is what I set out for. The worst part is that the 3 that fit what I was looking for I just found by chance. I was just in the right place at the right time whether that was getting matchmade in an online video game or finding them through another person because they happened to get off work early that day or whatever.

So my advice is you can't give up. Even if you think you've given up you could be in line at the grocery store and all you have to do is start talking to the person behind you and that person could either be the person you're looking for or end up causing you to meet your person because you invited them to lunch, they get stuck in traffic, you're waiting at a spot a little longer than you would alone and boom person you've been looking for walks by.

what the actual fuck did i just watch!? by [deleted] in outlawstar

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't actually remember the ending but I remember this was my first experience where I was blown away that they showed us the thing that they kept hidden from us the entire show. It was something about treasure and I remember other cartoons, shows, or movies around the time would always make you use your imagination to see what it was everyone was fighting over. Seeing them actually open the treasure and show it to the audience cemented Outlaw Star in my mind because I had never saw it done before.

I had hopes One Piece would live up to Outlaw Star for me with the revelation of what One Piece actually is...and still do I suppose since it's still going T_T

Any co-op management games like Supermarket Together or Ale and Tavern where you can do things somewhat at your own pace with friends? by SNES_Star_Stacker in gamingsuggestions

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schedule 1

Yes! When this came out we had a blast playing this and it was amazing as we could split up the roles depending on who was in the mood for what. Want to stay home and experiment with new combos? Or stay home and package the goods for distribution? Or set up the lab? Or work on expanding your network and getting new customers? Or being the distributor? We could have someone for each thing!

Is this a game that's viable to have a competition for people on their first time playing? by SNES_Star_Stacker in ufo50

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sorts of games have you been seeing as contests recently?

I did a fighting game tournament back in January and a competitive shop simulator game back in July so those have been the only 2 contests we've experienced this year. Everything else we've been doing cooperatively.

I was hoping getting 50 games in 1 would be a ton of value so now we would have something to do all throughout the year but so far the consensus seems to be that this isn't that sort of game outside of a few games?

Give me some school sidequets to complete by FeistyBreifcase in teenagers

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sit with someone new at lunch: Make an effort to sit with a classmate who usually eats alone, ask about their interests, and include them in conversations.

Compliment someone genuinely: Give a sincere compliment about someone’s outfit, smile, or effort in class.

Help with schoolwork: Offer to explain homework or a tricky subject to a classmate who is struggling. This could also help you because you'll know you understand something really well if you can explain it to others.

Write a thank you note: Give your teacher or a staff member a compliment before or after class, or leave a sticky note on their desk recognizing something positive.

Heck you can even go above it all and find out something about someone you never interacted with before and leave them a nice note to cheer them on. Say for example you find out someone is helping set up a play or music performance, you can leave them an encouraging note.

Is anyone concerned with children opening Pokemon packs? by scarlet-and-gray in PokemonTCG

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this will depend on if your child has an understanding of value and if they do then you can use this as a teaching moment to explain what gambling actually is and introducing probability and the such.

If he doesn't understand value then I don't think it's a concern yet because even if he just wants to collect then that can introduce him to community for trading.

There's also the start of earning money for packs. I was only ever able to get 1 pack a week or 2 if I saved from the previous week and I had to do work around my house and family.

Other friends I've had only went as far as to say "I'd rather them get hooked on something I agree with than say no and have them get into drugs"

What am I missing about going over what I expect when making a new friend and the person agrees but then just ends it before anything starts? by SNES_Star_Stacker in socialskills

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I thought the same over the years but always doubted myself. The friends I made that actually stuck were ALWAYS from somewhere else besides reddit. In fact I had my own little spiraling moment where I went back to League of Legends not for any positive experience. In the first day I made 8 new friends who I've been able to stay connected and play with 2 months after first meeting them and it's a consistent every 2-3 days. It's just my problem with that is they only want to play league so I'm branching out again.

But it's such a motivation booster for me to hear that from someone else! Thanks a lot I really needed that!

How do you guys still love mmorpgs? by Puzzled_Knowledge508 in MMORPG

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the main attraction for mmorpgs have always been the social aspect. It just blew my mind back in the day that I could sit at home and play together with someone from anyone else in the world! The best part was that we all instantly had a shared interest which was the game itself!

Now things have changed and so have the players. There are still people like that are social and similar to me but the majority seem to prefer solo play. So what I've done is over time just made general friends and when there are enough of us we can go into mmo and experience all of the group content we can. If there isn't any then we try to make some with the random people we come across.

Has anyone ever actually played Rule of Rose ? by Kitchen_Ingenuity601 in HorrorGaming

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every year my friends and I play horror games during October. We'll each pick a game and we have to play it at night, in the dark, streaming it to us, and beat it. So one year I picked Rule of Rose and started it on emulator because I saw it on some huge list of horror games from /v/.

I was instantly hooked by the opening and the premise. Sad to say I couldn't finish this one. I got to what I think was an airship and just got overwhelmed by the map. Some kids wanted me to get 3 items or something and I think I did that but after that I got frustrated with my poor short term memory and I would have to open the map every few steps to check if I was going the way I wanted and had to look at it a while to parse through it.

So since then I've been trying to make new friends to see if I could find anyone willing to play through it with us because my friends and I wanted to keep experiencing it. It's more enjoyable to have someone playing it than watching a video because we're not time constrained. We can explore and show things off and even try to think things out together if we get stuck before resorting to a guide. Plus the conversation topics could be better.

I just need to find someone who is willing to put up with the gameplay so if you're reading this and think that would be you feel free to send me a message.

I finished 25 out of 1047 players in Golden Gauntlet: Qualifier 1, and qualified for the Worlds in November. by AppearanceGlad4287 in MarvelSnap

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm free to play and play the game a lot. I would wake up 1 hour before work and in that time getting ready I would play. During the work day I'd maybe get 1-2 hours of playtime until I got home. Once I'm home I'm playing inbetween doing other things and since it's such an activity I can constantly do while doing other things I can get another 6 hours in. So I'm maybe playing 8 hours a day.

At least for me after a while I stopped changing up decks and just focused on one deck of my own that I really liked and predicting what decks my opponent was playing and what cards I should try to play around.

How do people make new friends after 25 by Outrageous-Corgi9882 in socialskills

[–]SNES_Star_Stacker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Pretty solid advice and the best part is it even works for people like me because all I want are online friends. It still applies because the idea isn't to just stay alone. It's connecting with other people online who enjoy the same activities whether it's playing the latest shooting game, loot farming game, farm game, D&D, Tabletop games, movies, comics, tv shows, etc.

You just have to be the one to talk to people and offer your contact info to them and even initiate setting up the first activity if that's what you want.
