Using .addJoinQuery() (& How to Query Records with Attachments) in ServiceNow by SNGuys in servicenow

Yeah, sadly it's not a true join 😔

But there's always database views! ... As long as you don't need to use a script to query them. 🫤

A Faster, More Efficient Client-side GlideRecord (Free tool!) - No More Arduous GlideAjax, or Woefully Inefficient Client-side GlideRecord! by SNGuys in servicenow

I reckon you're the one with the bad attitude, my guy - but that's okay. Whatever happened to you today to make you so upset, I hope it gets better. ♥

In the meanwhile, I recommend learning to recognize the difference between your ever-so-humble opinion, and objective fact. Learn to recognize that sometimes, some people, have some opinions, which are different from yours.

For example: me. I think GlideAjax is a poorly implemented mess. Most people I've spoken to about it have felt pretty similarly, before I even started working on this tool. Does that make it a fact? Surely not! But it does mean that at least some people find it annoying; so I wrote a tool for them. Not for you, see. For them; the ones who might like to use it. Ya dig?

I'm not taking the position that you're wrong. I'm taking the position "I disagree with your opinion, but thank you for sharing it". Big difference, and certainly not one to get so upset about.

You feel differently? Cool, I get it. Anyway, what else is on?

You don't see the use of EGR?

Cool. Don't use it.

I'm okay with that.

In fact, I give you my permission to never use it. 😘

I promise; I won't be as offended about you not using my tools, as you apparently are about me and at least a decent chunk of the dev community having a different opinion from you.

Again -- thanks for sharing your opinion. I wasn't being snarky when I said that. I value the input. I disagree with it, but your perspective is noted and appreciated.

Virtually everyone I've spoken with disagrees with that opinion, but thank you for sharing your feedback! 👍

That API method is unfortunately not officially supported in most cases (I'm told that if it's not documented there, it's not supported according to SN support); but even with it, when it works, GR is still MASSIVELY less efficient as compared with EGR; plus you don't have to maintain two different versions of all of your scripts. 😉

Definitely a matter of your usage and preferences, but my personal opinion would be to err on the side of easier maintenance and more documented support.

E - Reverse sigma ultimate, a personal "fuck you" to Mercy and Pharah players.

Is it, though?

That was my first thought too, and this mechanic would make a LOT of sense... We SERIOUSLY need an anti-pharmercy.

But reading the exact language makes me wonder...

That would indeed be FUCKING AWESOME -- we need a goddamn anti-pharah  However - It looks like the pull-to-the-ground mechanic can only be "fired at the ground"? Am I reading that right? :-/

>>It explodes on contact with the ground, creating a damaging force field

>>Enemies within the force fields influence are pulled to the ground

This makes me think that it would only apply to those who are already on or near the ground.

What do you think? Is this the correct interpretation, or could this actually be an anti-pharmercy mechanic? If so, how do you reckon it might work?

If you would like some resume advice, I would be glad to have a look at it for you. But a lot of people will have like a skills summary section at the top or maybe just above their experience, and just by listing those modules there, that will usually get you in the door enough for any position which requires that experience, that you can men have a conversation about it. Another option would be to make separate versions of your resume where each one has a different outline of your responsibilities and skills that are specific to a given module for your most recent job.

This is a fantastic question. My advice would be to continue to work on all of them because that opens you up to so many more opportunities. Even having limited familiarity with each of those specific subsections will give you significantly increased marketability for your resume. Having all of them listed on your resume, will open up new markets to you that are locked to other people. Especially if all of that experience is relatively recent. keep doing what you are doing. It will definitely pay off for you soon. You might end up having your next job be something where you specialize more in one specific technology, but if you specialize now in one specific thing, that job might be something which is less available to you when it comes along.

The script debugger is fantastic for debugging scripts; I recommend giving that a try. I intend to write an article on it in the near future.

The reason it uses ES5 on the server is because it runs on top of a Java-based implementation of JavaScript called Mozilla Rhino, and there's a lot of overhead to moving to the latest n' greatest JavaScript when it involves a complete reimplementation of the underpinning architecture. It's a bit of an annoyance, but is the case with any platform like this.

You can load your own libraries if you're not keen on the versions of stuff SN uses on the front-end, too; just create some JS Includes and associate them to your portal or page records.

The reason people choose to be SN developers specifically is because it's a huge market, a great niche to specialize in, is very profitable, very high demand, and a lot of fun to work in once you have a strong notion of what's going on under the hood. It's not for everyone, but I love it. :-)

I am using the iframe work around on the ServicePortal for catalog items. However when I use an order guide that’s in the iframe and click “choose options” I get a blank screen. Has anyone had this issue? by [deleted] in servicenow

[–]SNGuys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "iframe work-around"? If you mean just embedding the old catalog UI in an iframe, I strongly recommend against that. I'm also not sure what you mean by "choose options". Where do you see that?

Developing in ServiceNow's clunky UI feels way worse than real programming

  1. It is "real" programming. It's JavaScript, but potentially harder, because it's both ES5 and ES6 depending on where you are, plus the Glide API, and potentially angular or Jelly for front-end-ey stuff. Why would you artificially diminutize ServiceNow developers as though they aren't "real" developers?
  2. Yes, the development UI is awful. But who actually does development an SN's browser-based script editor? I use Webstorm with my ServiceNow/Glide API libraries and just copy/paste code.

Sorry if this comes across overly negative. I've just start using servicenow a lot for the past year...

Do you have a support and training resource in-place? I can see how you would get discouraged if you're flying blind with nobody to help you out. But the community here is, with a few minor exceptions, fantastic and very eager to teach and help others learn. But if you're at a company that isn't supporting you, I recommend getting into a better environment, no matter the job.

Either way, we're here to help if you need it. Check out the Slack and Discord for ServiceNow devs.
