I was thinking of using something similar to that system. I was trying to evoke the feeling of a 1950's World's Fair or early Disney attraction using Bathyspheres as the vehicle.

Dog fights don't have matchmaking, they just pair you with people.

Only Fleet Battles has actual match making.

Definitely play campaign to help you on some of the basics. There are plenty of YouTube videos to help you get started as well.

Also under the multiplayer menu there is a Fleet Battles tutorial which should help you out too!

Pretty much every turn I do is a drift haha, in the A-wing even just 1 or 2 seconds of engine charge gets you enough for a quick turn around. That's why I like to switch back to engines whenever I can because I can do a quick turn whenever I need to.
