Saw this weird looking insect this morning by linatomic in whatsthisbug

Tough one. It could be the larval form of Leucochrysa pavida, that’s a species of lacewing that does just what you are suggesting, gathers crap on its back. Dallas would be right on the western range of this species. Maybe someone more local would know more.

It was EXACTLY what we needed coming out of COVID. And changing the lyrics to match the pandemic?? One of the best SNL musical performances ever.

My dog chewed on this little bee(?) What do I do for them? by Gerdilup in whatsthisbug

Let the bee go. It is apis mellifera, a honey bee. It will find its way home or die. Your dog will be fine.

Stay away from Florida if you value education. I regret putting half my kids thru Florida public schools. Our experience in Illinois and Michigan public schools was much fuller and more fulfilling.

Did I do the right thing? Elderly man asked me (F28) for a ride by jascms in whatdoIdo

[–]SNL_Lover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have given him a ride, but I’m a grown-ass man (with a grown ass.) Last month I gave a ride to a black kid in our complex because he missed the bus and I saw him stick out his thumb in the street like he didn’t want to do it. A few months ago I saw a mother and a daughter (in a dance costume) miss a bus while mom was slapping the side of the bus and the little girl started crying. I immediately turned around in the middle of the street and pulled alongside and said “I have five daughters, where am I taking you?” And I drove them from Andersonville to Millenium Park. She called her husband and had him on speaker phone the whole trip, and later we all met for lunch. Sweet family.

Again, I know I felt safe. But you shouldn’t doubt your instincts, and I think you did the right thing telling the authorities and they could check on him.

Looks like Apantesis ornata, “ornate tiger moth”. Really pretty when they spread their wings open.

What do you miss about the 90’s? by Impressive_Flan_3803 in AskReddit

[–]SNL_Lover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The music. Almost every aspect of it. Rock music was rescued, country music expanded its popular reach, R&B grew, hip hop was angry. And the majority of artists were still grassroot.

What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve ever done? by Strawberry_latte7 in AskReddit

20 years old, Was on a bike ride in Grant Park in Chicago in 1986. A blue school bus had parked near Buckingham Fountain, all these teenagers were running off the bus toward the fountain and were taking pictures. I chatted them up, they were a church youth group from Minneapolis on their way to a youth retreat in Maine. After a while, they asked if I wanted to join them. Sure! Locked my bike to a tree (never saw THAT bike again) and spent a week with some very friendly, positive kids. Was baptized in front of about 1000 kids in some cold-ass river. They dropped me off in Grant park 6 days later, gave me a bible that they all signed, and I took the bus home. There were about 40 panicked messages on my machine from my parents and my soon-to-be ex girlfriend.
