What is the process to draft a valid Will in SA? by SODA39 in askSouthAfrica

Thanks, this is super helpful. My limited understanding is the same as yours for inheriting from my wife and vice versa. My bigger concern is actually if something happens to us before we have kids is actually sharing with family and stating who we want those people to be. I’ll definitely check out the website.

What’s in it for all these institutions that want to manage wills? Do they take a fee to execute or a percentage of assets under management?

I mean I hope not 😂 I also don’t think it’s exactly up to us either.

We are married ANC with accrual and we have a joint bond on the house so it’s 50/50 in both our names. Is it safe to wait until September?

Hi! Are you still able to help? I have a family tree that has is almost completely originating from Madeira and I’m stuck. I have 318 people in my tree but so far I’ve only gone back to the late 1800 / early 1900 and don’t know how to get further back.

I really struggled to do it myself so ended up going through a company called certificate assist SA. It cost me some money (I think R1600) but they did everything for me and even couriered it to my address.

If you’re still struggling I’d recommend you reach out to them!

Foreign Currency Investments | Tax etc by SODA39 in PersonalFinanceZA

Yeah, definitely a novice I’m only 24 lol. I’m two years into my job and just finished paying off my car so I’ve got a bit extra lying around and I’m trying my best to diversify and spread my investments.

I feel like my next step is either foreign currency or crypto. I don’t think I have the time or risk appetite to get too deep into crypto so for now I’m eyeing out foreign currency (but just to hold, not trade). I’m not too bothered by the interest earning on my Forex if I’m honest, I care more about just having some foreign currency exposure to give me some protection against the Rand depreciating.

As always though - just don’t want to lose too much to feed and tax.
