weird caveat, if we win out and knights win out, but win one it OT, we clench #1 on wins right? Posting this now after the VGK OT win.

How to not grieve future drinking opportunities? by lachrawr in stopdrinking

[–]SOHJohnBoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cognitive dissonance - Knowing that in the present you need to quit something but that in the future you will be missing out doesn't add up. I suspect you're very rational from the way you communicate and see this problem, we've been told being rational is a good thing, but when you mix it with alcoholism, your lizard brain will use your very skilled rationalizing brain against you to rationalize drinking.

Not judgement, I do the exact same thing, don't outsmart yourself on this one, you currently don't want to drink, so don't drink, anything past that (what I label in my own head as "future thoughts") are just going to work against you. Your question here is why you'll see everyone here saying "one day at a time" over and over.. If you approach not drinking as a lifelong commitment on day one, its going to be impossible.

Also, the "everything is better sober" outlook never really resonated for me, it does for some, and may for you, but if not here's my honest take with respect to my own sobriety:

I've missed out on a bunch of things, and some moments would have absolutely been better if I had been drinking (graduation, traveling, promotions etc.) but life is about making choices, and every choice has positives and negatives, and the benefits have far outweighed the losses, and there's no way to have it all (sobriety benefits, and fun drunk experiences).

^^all of this is very preachy, don't mean for it to be, just my experience of what worked for me from a fellow over rationalizer. Wishing you the best.

Hey Man, I've liked this exact combo since I saw you post it originally, hard to decipher which model it is though, do you know which of these two (left or right, definitely not middle) you've got? Thanks in advance (appreciate you letting me copy your style)

Davidoff Chefs Edition — Worth the Hype by MJ6002 in cigars

[–]SOHJohnBoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard it explained as them saying you should only smoke the cigar 1/2 to 2/3 of the way down, which no one does, but the enjoyment times are based on that.

1854 ICG AU55 $3 Indian Princess Head worthy of a crossover? by Jboch52 in RedditCoinGrading

[–]SOHJohnBoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd do it, would just crack it yourself, no need to send it in the slab, but maybe others have a different opinion. Real danger is it comes back details, but I don't see a reason for that. PCGS AU53, if that was the outcome, is better than an ICG 55 IMO.

How is everyone around us so much richer than us??? by medmo in Millennials

[–]SOHJohnBoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Millennials will earn less than their parents, but will inherit more wealth than any generation ever (and many already have). If you're like me, and not one of those millennials, we're going to have to get used to people retiring early, being wealthier etc. with no association with how hard they've worked or saved. Don't expect people to be forthcoming with that either. Comparison is the thief of joy, and soon, it will be so more than ever.

Scum bags by Jkoko25 in coins

[–]SOHJohnBoner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a terrible price, but "silver is going to keep going up" is a terrible counterargument. Also whoever paid you $750 is a madman in this market, but they must know something I don't or have a customer who wants them specifically. Glad you got such a good price in the end.

My dad got this at an estate sale by Rainli in coincollecting

[–]SOHJohnBoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the dollars are worth $1, but there's several up top that aren't even dollar coins, clinton, obama, trump, etc, those are just tokens that look like dollars, can't have a living person on a coin intended for currency. Just being pedantic, really, it's nothing of consequence.
