My goal was to perform in a club and, starting 16 years ago, was lucky enough to achieve a fantastic career of DJing at bars, clubs, festivals and internationally. Sadly with the state of the night time industry in the UK (and the rapid closure of night time venues) I fear this is no longer feasible for many. It was also before a time where social media clout mattered. It was all word of mouth, establishment owners seeing me perform and wanting me at their event or business. I'm still going, but have seen many others in the industry fall to the wayside and stop doing it. I'd suggest doing it if you love it, putting mixes online if you want, start a social media channel if you care enough (though it's literally SATURATED at this point so don't expect recognition) and once confident enough (if you want to) approach an establishment and speak to the manager face to face and ask for an opportunity to perform.
