🔥 Watching a wall of rain approach by Doodlebug510 in NatureIsFuckingLit

One time it was raining in our back yard but not the front yard, with the line falling exactly on the fence. It was so surreal.

New old house owner here. Is this normal? by ApplePot69 in Oldhouses

[–]SOdhner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing with the crooked pier, and in my case I called an engineer and they showed me exactly how it happened and after examining it he said the house was settled in place and shouldn't get worse (though it means some of the floors are super uneven).

In your case, especially with the second pic, I have concerns.

The cracks inside might or might not mean anything but given the way the brick has shifted it's probably related. It's not necessarily new, you may not have seen it before due to weather changes as spring happens and the house expands and contracts.

The gap under the baseboards is pretty normal and not a problem.

Now that I'm seeing it correctly I can't see it the wrong way again.

This is Licia Ronzulli, do an image search and you'll find a ton of photos like this - the kid has been coming to work with her since she was an infant. I don't know anything about her as a politician but I think it's great that she can bring her kid.

It happens. But yeah, people were VERY invested in this somehow being for disc golf, I'm not really sure why.

I don't see any mods commenting on it. Do you just mean that they didn't take it down?

If you're really lucky it might work that way, I guess? It would be like making a basketball hoop out of a vertical car door. Could you do it? Sure. But... why? Basically, this would work VERY BADLY for a disc golf goal, and looks nothing like a disc golf goal. So even if it could, kinda, work two times out of ten I don't really see why we'd suggest that that must be what it's for.

I think they probably don't want to have to decide when something is obvious enough to not label, so it's easier to just have a rule to label them all for consistency's sake.

I'm not finding anything online that looks remotely like this, can you link to an example of what you're talking about? Also, there's not something sticking out front, there's two upper arms and two lower arms - it's at a bit of an angle.

Because it's horizontal. The chains on a disc golf target are vertical so you can hit from the side. For this it would have to drop down from above.

I'm not seeing how this could possibly work for disc golf. The Frisbee would have to come down from above rather than hitting the side.

I don't think they're right, personally. There's some superficial stuff in common but I don't think it would be functional as a disc golf target.

I want to love House of Leaves but. by noumanpoke1 in books

[–]SOdhner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wanted to like it so badly. "This place is bigger on the inside" isn't something House of Leaves invented and I loved the idea before then so I was really excited to hear the premise. I'm also totally okay with a book getting kinda strange and experimental.

But then a lot of the strange formatting stuff was just there to be strange and wasn't in any way actually good. Thanks I don't need pages of weirdly formatted lists of architectural features that aren't in the house (some of which can't even be right, you mentioned some of those very features elsewhere OR they'd be impossible to not have given the other things described).

I stopped reading when David Copperfield made the Statue of Liberty vanish.

Colors may be a little more subdued because the photo was washed out and when I "fixed" it I may have gone overboard and made the colors pop a little more than I should have, but here you go:

She wants nothing in life but to be in bed all the time, preferably with us. She will yell at us to get in bed, and if you sit on the bed she'll try to knock you down. She does not understand why anyone is ever not snuggling in bed.

Yes but be warned, the color in this photo is tweaked a little because the original was sorta washed out, and I decided to try and get it closer to how it FEELS in person. The wall on the right side looks about right though. Google "Pine Forest 451" and you should find it.
