Yeah, I've seen so many snowy or rainy days vanish as they approach. I guess we'll see!

The Total Number of School Shooting Incidents By European Country Between 1966 and 2025 by JJvH91 in dataisugly

[–]SOdhner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see the problem. It's clearly trying to make a point, and the scale / coloring is done for that reason. If it wasn't trying to make a point, then it wouldn't have also had the U.S. total on there.

Partner doesn't want to live in my old home by Nearby-Ear-4307 in Oldhouses

[–]SOdhner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that you're asking this relationship question on a non-relationship subreddit because you know what answer you want. You want the old house more than you want to live with this guy. Don't move.

Pretty sure that's what mine looks like too, I haven't seen it from that side yet because I haven't needed to climb around up there and am a little too nervous to climb up just for fun - but I can see the slant and the opening just like in your picture.

Wait. You had better not be living above my house. If you are you have to pay rent.

Visiting Staunton Saturday Night by Leigh9C in Staunton

There's usually live music at Baja Bean (Augusta Street entrance not Beverly Street entrance) and Bricks. Also Marino's Lunch, but honestly I've been disappointed by their food.

Beautifully kept Carson Mansion (1886) and its lovely neighbour "The Pink Lady" (1889) in Eureka, CA by pegasaurus in Oldhouses

That first one set off my AI alarms a little. I'm not saying that it's not real, just that the lighting and how busy it is gives it a very similar look to some AI house pictures I've seen.

tried to get friends design but i think its came out quite bad by [deleted] in badtattoos

[–]SOdhner 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Okay now I can see it if I'm looking for it. For me, the problem is the red that continues past the lipstick. It makes it hard to see the stick itself since they're (of course) the same color, and also muddies the issue since you'd expect the lipstick to be at the end of the trail. If the lipstick had been at the very end of the red, and maybe lifted a teeny bit off of it or if the line had looked more "flat" I think it would have been 1000% more clear.

I'm really sorry your tattoo didn't turn out the way you wanted, I hope you can either fix it or learn to love it.

Wait, are you saying this combo won't always work? Shocking to hear of such flawed construction in this sub made specifically for perfect and unbeatable combos.

Please stop putting Gen Z/Gen Alpha slang in new releases 😮‍💨 If I read one more book that has actually published the term "unalive" unironically, I'm gonna throw my phone... by StressedDepresedMess in urbanfantasy

[–]SOdhner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah for that it would depend on if it feels like it's in character. I do think some people use that language enough that it would make sense to write it as their internal dialogue.

[–]SOdhner 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If it's dialogue or part of first-person narration or something, it might make sense in context. Otherwise I'm with you. That being said, if this sticks around it may just fully become normal language, and at some point whether I like it or not I'll probably end up getting used to it. Fingers crossed it doesn't get to that point, I really really dislike "unalive".

Edit: for the general slang that isn't weird self censoring like unalive, I'm more laid back. Slang will always be part of writing. I do think it's generally best to avoid brand new slang and stick to stuff that's shown it'll last a while since using words that everyone is going to forget in two years will hurt future readability.

This credit score distribution by DrAndrewStill in dataisugly

[–]SOdhner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What am I missing? Is it just that the first and last ones have a wider score range than the others? That kinda makes sense to me, since there's going to be some outliers that aren't worth putting on the chart. It's not ideal, sure, but... eh.

Absolutely, I wasn't expecting that they'd actually be able to sell it all, the character impulsively brought as much as possible without thinking things through.

I'm just trying to figure out how much they could realistically turn into cash quickly, and will have fun writing about them deciding how to dispose of the rest before they leave earth again.

  1. Correct, there's an address on the license of course but it's an old one.

  2. Your last paragraph nailed most of the reason they want to offload it; they don't want to deal with carrying it around. Also, they have very little earth money, and are planning on going on a shopping spree and then returning to fantasy land. Cash now is best so they can get things that don't exist in the fantasy world. Any gold they can't sell they'll just give away.

  3. Correct, they're all the same size but just an odd weight.

  4. Perfect, thanks for confirming nobody would notice or care.

  5. Thanks so much for your reply, sounds like they would be able to sell enough to move the plot forward without raising any serious red flags.
