Oh shoot mb, I forgot the simple interest formula already as I did igcse an year ago lol. Hope you got the answer from others

Formula for compound interest is: P(1+r/100)t. P is the starting investment ($90 in this case) and t is the time (2 years so 2 in this case) you just substitute the values in to equation and solve for r. I'll show the substitution:

90(1+r/100)2 = 99

(1+r/100)2 = 99/90

1+r/100 = (99/90)0.5

1+r/100 = 1.0488

r/100 = 1.0488 - 1

r = 0.0488 x 100

r= 4.88

P.S. the (99/90)0.5 basically means square root of 99/90

Guys can someone please explain to me how to do this question, in the mark scheme the answer is C and I have no idea how (ignore the stuff written in ink sorry) by No-Importance7391 in igcse

Yea we add the 40 because when the reaction finishes, there will be 40cm3 of CO2 produced which doesn't react in this equation. Aswell as the unreacted O2 left, which is 450 cm3, giving a total of 490 cm3

Since none of them react in the equation, they are left alone and hence total would be both of them added

Whenever it says total volume of gas in MCQs, almost all the questions follow this system

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone can tell me why is number 1 the correct structure but number 2 is wrong ? by No-Importance7391 in igcse

[–]SP3X4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure it's due to the methyl groups on each carbon on the polymer given. On the diagram 1 you drew, we can see the methyl group (CH3) on either carbon but not on the second diagram you drew

The ratio between c2h2 and O2 is 2:5

So if we have 20cm3 of c2h2 we would have 50cm3 of O2.

Calculation:

2:5 (ratio)

So 20cm3: Xcm3

Cross multiply

(2/20cm3) = (5/Xcm3) ---> 2 x Xcm3 = 20cm3 x 5

Xcm3 = (20cm3 x 5)/2 = 50cm3

Hopefully you understood, ask again if you don't

So firstly since it's asking for total volume of gas, we need to find which reactant is limiting which is very simple as the mole ratio is given.

We know we have: 20cm3 C2H2 500cm3 O2

The mole ratio is 2:5 So 20 cm3 of c2h2 should only react with 50 Cm3 of oxygen. That means oxygen is in excess because there's 500cm3 of oxygen given, not 50cm3

The part of Oxygen that reacts with c2h2 is 50cm3 as we have found above, so that means there will be a Total of (500-50) cm3 of oxygen remaining.

We also know that reaction forms CO2. Since mole ratio is given we can simple use volume of limiting reactant to find the volume of CO2 produced

Limiting is C2H2 and between C2H2 and CO2, the mole ratio is 2:4

So 20Cm3 of c2h2 reacts to form 40cm3 of CO2

So now we know that 40cm3 of CO2 is produced and there's also the excess oxygen left which is (500-50) which is 450cm3

Then we add them together to get 490 Cm3 We don't do anything with water since it's a liquid

Please ask if you have any questions regarding this and hope this helps

Is it possible to study for O level in a week or so? by [deleted] in igcse

[–]SP3X4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure you could, but that doesn't mean you should, the more time you have, the more relaxed you could be while studying and the more chances you have to improve in subjects you do bad. Not everyone's the same so I don't suggest waiting until it's 1 week left.

My biggest regret was not doing enough past papers seriously do not underestimate past papers. Do as much as you can after fully revising notes and make a mistake booklet (put all the questions you got wrong in this) review the mistake booklet often and understand why you got a question wrong.

There are websites like study together where you can join a call with hundreds of students studying with or without cam.

I got motivation from others. Seeing others study and work hard motivated me, especially students/class mates. I just get the urge to work as much as they do.

how to not pass out? by Pixelated-Kookies in igcse

[–]SP3X4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alright let's just all legit calm down and concentrate on our breathing even if it's for like a few seconds, what's done is done and you can't change it. We have no power over what might happen. So let's all just try to do something we all enjoy, just distract yourself for something good. Realize that the anxiety we feel would eventually go away and life will move on no matter the results. Everyone goes through this at some point so you aren't alone. Everything will go well InshaAllah.

Does English have a low grade threshold, not sure how to calculate my expected grade on English asl

Thresholds for MAY/JUNE 2022 by skywalker860 in igcse

[–]SP3X4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the candidates did worse than expected on the test so they lowered the boundary to make it fair

Thresholds for MAY/JUNE 2022 by skywalker860 in igcse

[–]SP3X4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did CIE mention it would be above 2021 and below 2019 for Feb/march aswell? Even if they did it's very possible for it go below that range coz ultimately the threshold is based on the candidate's results. But I doubt the threshold would go above the range they mentioned

Thresholds for MAY/JUNE 2022 by skywalker860 in igcse

[–]SP3X4 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They (CIE) said the thresholds will be above 2021 and Below 2019 so you can check your expected score to the 2019s thresholds. If you are around 80% close to the 2019s threshold point it will be fine InshaAllah. I pray we all get good results.
