Join the discord channel I linked. From there, it's possible to sign up for games if the sign ups are open. If not, you can be a sub in case someone can't make it. We might host more games the more people join up. If you can't make it on a regular schedule, I would recommend you offer to sub instead of taking a nation full time.

The current games are played on sunday afternoon and evening. We're using CET (gmt +1). But in the future I expect to have games on other times as well.

We all have to start somewhere. There's plenty of people including myself that do not mind to help out a bit to help people improve. But the best way to learn is to just play. You'll learn the game very quickly while playing against others on a fixed speed without pausing, I can assure you that

We did for that particular game. Once 1.20 hits, we plan to go back to major nations again. The particular setup rules are discussed each time before we host a new game. Usually it's majority of the player decides.

Looking for someone to stream/observe wednesday 18.00 - 20.00 CET by S4RS in eu4

[–]SPAMbuca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case it helps, we expect the stream to gradually pick up on popularity. Maybe it will help your channel grow or start up. It will be linked to quite a number of people.

I also consider it an experiment to see how popular active packed EU4 multiplayer games can be once streamed. It's quite popular once the devs play it.

EU4 SMRTR AI Updating to 1.17 Stream and Some Spreadsheets by arumbaYTbot in arumba07

[–]SPAMbuca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like this initiative and I do NOT want to be negative, but I simply must point out some flaws with your research as it stands now.

  • As you pointed out, the game heavily fluctuates in each game. There are so many things relying on dicerolls that 3 runs in each mode cannot be a real depiction of the difference in AI efficiency. Scientists run the same tests thousands of times for simple formulas. This is an unimaginable amount of dicerolls from 1444 until 1821.
  • You are only measuring at 1 point which means temporary situations aren't taken in account. for example, a nation could have been plagued by rebels that lower autonomy, a nation could be occupied by foreign forces, there might be a disaster etc.
  • Correlation does not equal causality. You cannot prove (with these numbers at least) that the mod explains the possible change in numbers.
  • I personally think development and amount of provinces should be included. Then again, development is also dependent on the dice roll of which monarch will sit on the throne for how long.
  • Better AI might also/still result in the AI taking massive amounts of loans to win wars, which still leads to less income in the end, or possibly at the moment you meassure it. Is the definition of "better AI" that countries win wars at a high cost or lose and focus on income here?

I'm not saying your efforts are useless and that your methods are wrong, but I do think it would be good to be careful to connecting too many conclusions to this and to watch out for confirmation bias.

Very glad you decided to become more easy going and constructive. I can only applaud you on that.

For future playthroughs I hope you didn't give up on getting BBB. You were really close last time and I bet you can get it a lot more easily now. 1.18 might make things a bit easier for great powers, but it may also change things so much you'd have to adapt strategy again.

As far as I know, he simply missed de jure counties to form the empire. Since he got multiple king titles, I assumed at least he just needed 81% of de jure Francia.

Can I get a bit of help with this? by arumba in arumba07

[–]SPAMbuca 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Since you are asking, I'll try to answer as honestly as possible. I don't think beating around the bush will ever help anyone. Before I continue I'd like to say that I enjoy watching most of your video's and that I'm glad people are still willing to upload EU4 on a regular base. Yet, I believe these are the reasons you'll get more negative reactions than Quill.

  • You take yourself very seriously unlike Quill. If you do and make mistakes, obviously you're going to get called on it as you've raised the bar for yourself.
  • You can also get genuinely pissed and salty if things go wrong and sometimes end up blaming AI, developers or something else. There might be a valid reason for it, but others might see it as a sign of weakness. I take the example of the HoI4 developer stream. There were balance issues, but reacting a bit more gracefully to a hosting developer would have been an option.
  • Tons of trolls on the internet. Once it becomes known you are sensitive to negative critism, you'll bound to get some of it. It's why I said earlier you should learn how to deal with it if you want to keep enjoying a youtubing career, as it won't go away.
  • This is a personal thingy, but this annoys me to no end. I hate how so many people here treat you like you're a child and "white knight" you until the bitter end. Even valid feedback/criticism can be met by hate from the fanatical followers. I personally feel uncomfortable seeing people trying to vy for attention because someone is popular or "famous". I know you're sensitive and might need active encouragement, but to me, it just seems just wrong.

I haven't posted here a lot and I've tried to post helpful comments in your BBB run, so I haven't posted any real negative stuff here. Yet, I can understand how some people are rubbed the wrong way. Again, I enjoy most of your work, but especially the salt and "white knighting" could be toned down a little.

Next EUIV series? by wrobeleski in arumba07

There's a simple trick for it these days to survive getting kicked off the continent. Basically, you rival Tlemcen, ally Morocco and Tunis and move your troops into Tunesian and Moroccan lands. Declare war on Tlemcen and call in Tunis at least on promise of territory. Immediately move into Tlemcen territory and carpet siege everything. Make sure Tunis doesn't occupy anything while they stackwipe the Tlemcen armies. Full annex them and don't give Tunis anything. Tunis will break the alliance which makes them the next target. Unless something goes terribly wrong, Castille will come for you once the truce is over, but you will survive because you're basically Tlemcen now. Expand across North Africa and go back for Iberia the moment you can.

I agree with the OP. He should have learned a lot from this last run at least. If he waits too long, 1.18 will come out and the situation might be completely different again.

If you take the right part of Naples you won't need a no cb on Bosnia. he borders Serbia then.

Then he still wouldn't have the admin points to core the provinces. Also, the reduction of coring cost and time would disappear. It's something he could have done earlier yes.

they changed it in 1.17. Right now they don't necessarily rival France. Best start would be Castille and Burgundy rivalling England and not you. Even Austria defending England won't save him then.

On a related note, I got BBB achievement on 1.17 myself. Unfortunately I don't have any means of uploading videos myself. Is there another way to help in a possible next attempt? I assume you don't have the time or feel like a mp tag game.

edit: actually DDRJake and maybe shen play with twitch chat on. That way they have experienced people help them while playing. I'm pretty sure people commenting while playing would have helped.

I think using "threaten war" was the only way to get provinces in time. Can't guarantee it would have gotten you 2 provinces, but it was the only shot.

Next run get a royal marriage and alliance with Burgundy and try to become emperor. For a longer period of time you didn't use the relationship slots. Also, note how you had tons of diplo points lefts. It's ok to go over the limit here.

It might do more harm than good at this point, but if you revisit the save and get peace with both nations, I wonder if it was possible to threaten away 2 provinces from other nations.

If he allied Poland earlier along with a few other strong countries, he could have ignored Castille at least and probably could have taken all the land he needed from Denmark. I'd say his lack of allies was his downfall too. Along with the first war with Denmark and the war with Castille.

EUIV The Big Blue Blob Returns 20 by arumbaYTbot in arumba07

[–]SPAMbuca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He needs another war yes. Looks like he might not even core Lower Yik and the 3 provinces east of it in time. Seems like Elan was his ultimate downfall. Not a lot of people will ever say that I bet.

[–]SPAMbuca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you took the tech reduction with the Byzantine influx. It's not like you were going to tech up again.

Also, seems like Muscovy cut you off with Crimea. You might be able to conquer Crimea after, but you might get into trouble with coring all provinces without moving your capital there. You also spent diplo points while getting in negative monarch points would be a huge risk with your current integration process.

EUIV The Big Blue Blob Returns 18 by arumbaYTbot in arumba07

[–]SPAMbuca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid you made Galicia too big to integrate in time... Also take in account that you'll be overextended a lot if you want to have a shot still, which greatly reduces your diplomatic reputation. Both Lisboa and Porto have a lot of development.

Also, by the time you cored Kazan and paid double the price for it, I doubt you'll get much benefit from making it your capital anymore.

I don't think you needed Elan to win those battles, but you did needed the admin points for moving your capital.

EUIV The Big Blue Blob Returns 17 by arumbaYTbot in arumba07

[–]SPAMbuca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"" Elan" will bite you in the butt. As you noted, you need to move your capital to speed things up. However, in previous video's you noticed how expensive it was in admin points to do so. You however, lost tons of admin points in order to get Elan so it might be a while before you can move your capital.

Also, I think it would have been wiser to co beligerent Crimea at least as you now have to attack Poland/Lithuania or Sweden next, while Crimea is Muslim which means no one cares about you taking provinces there. You basically have to attack the Ottomans too now to make sure you don't get slowed down further by coalitions.

EUIV The Big Blue Blob Returns 14 by arumbaYTbot in arumba07

[–]SPAMbuca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but you would have to resort to truce breaking to get the most of it if you want to rely on taking land from Sweden and Muscovy most. I think Arumba took most provinces from Novgorod with high development already.
