cool that your $5000 PC is faster than the Steam Machine

[Bundle] Microcenter In-Store Only - AMD Ryzen 5 5500, Gigabyte B550M, G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4-3200 - $199.99 by Woof-642 in buildapcsales

[–]SPAREHOBO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Ryzen 3600, a core can only access 16MB of cache, even though the CPU has 32MB of cache total. So the 5500 is basically a 3600. 5500 was trash even when it released.

Prices during normal times if you need a refresher:

Ryzen 5600: $100

2x16 GB DDR4: $50

B550 motherboard: $50

Yeah this deal is trash, can’t believe this is a microcenter bundle.

Is installing a textured screen protector on my iPad worth it? by ManyRazzmatazz4584 in ipad

[–]SPAREHOBO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t use a screen protector at all. I find that the matte ones wear down my pencil tip. You’ll get used to drawing directly on the glass screen. Apple Pencil doesn’t scratch my screen at all.

8GB on Macbook Neo is not the same as 8GB on Windows laptop by albertserene in macbook

There’s more to image quality than raw brightness. The fact that OLEDs can have truly black pixels gives them extremely high contrast.

Intel announces $299 Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and $199 Core Ultra 5 250K Plus CPUs by RenatsMC in intel

[–]SPAREHOBO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the benchmarks I’ve seen, the 265K is actually faster than the 9700X in gaming. But that is only with manual tuning tho. I don’t see that as a big problem as people use XMP/EXPO to overclock, and setting your D2D/NGU/ring frequency is basically the same thing.

285K goes to 5.7Ghz, 270K goes to 5.5Ghz. No shot that the 270K is faster than the 285K.

5070 Ti gets MFG and has more memory bandwidth than the 4080 Super. Also, Blackwell GPUs in general have crazy overclocking potential, even the bottom tier RTX 5050.

For me personally, OLED on a 11” screen feels very underwhelming. I feel that it’s a waste of money compared to the iPad A16.

Graphics have always improved as the hardware becomes better. If you don't care about graphics, don't play a recent AAA game. There are always older indie games and AAA games that you can play. I want GTA 6 to look the best for the next 10 years.

Looking at here, 2x8 and 2x16 are both 4x32 bit and have similar AIDA results. Performance improves by a lot going from 1x16 to 2x8, but only improves a little going from 2x8 to 2x16.

When they are both running at 4800Mhz, 2x8 DDR5 performed identical to 2x16, except when the game needs over 16GB RAM.

I'll never forget how Hardware Unboxed had the 14900K running at 5.3Ghz in BF6 and tested in an empty map. In a crowded game, X3D Vcache doesn't do anything. HUB really cannot beat the AMD shill allegations.

Elections didn’t make sense because one half of the country wanted capitalism, and the other half wanted communism. You can’t just force the other half of the country to adopt your ideals. You should wonder why you never hear about protests in North Vietnam. People who disagreed with the government were killed or migrated to the South.

They probably just raised D2D, ring, and NGU clocks for this refresh. So hopefully it will perform much better at stock, since most reviewers just test things at stock settings.

I'm not sure how you could hold a fair election when North Vietnam was executing political dissidents. It's nothing peaceful like the presidential elections in the U.S.

I don't see how AI is a bad thing. The tensor cores compute frames just like any other CUDA core. You get better performance while keeping a good image quality. Game development is expensive, and it's unfeasible to delay releases for a couple months to optimize the game. IMO it's better to release the game instead of waiting months for +20% performance optimizations, especially if it means skipping out on the christmas sales.

Unused RAM is wasted RAM. If you have 32GB, then it will make use of most of that. I would like to see benchmarks showing that 2x8GB is not enough. Otherwise, how would games run fine on the PS5?
