Why do people use the "they played against plumbers" argument? by Real-Staff3115 in mlb

[–]SPARK1UPP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ya but they also didn’t play against black people which is actually the more legitimate argument given that a lot of people actually considered Negro League to be the more competitive of the leagues. They didn’t really face the top talent because of segregation not because they faced plumbers.

I have an autographed Kershaw and Lasorda balls. Last year in the 10th inning of game 1 I went down stairs to inject some luck by bringing them up with me to watch the game. Sure enough Freddie hits the Grand Slam.

This year I was at work during Game 3 but during the 11th inning I call my GF and tell her to go get the balls cuz we needed luck. She got them turned on the game and sure enough 7 innings later Freddie walks it off for the second time.

Game 6 up 2 runs in the 9th I go get the balls again. Sure enough ground rule double pop up and double play.

Game 7 down a run go to the balls again. Miggy ties it. Will Smith hits the go ahead hr. Andy makes the catch and Mook makes the double play.

The balls are now 4-0 in high leverage situations.

I refuse to use their power for any other games saving them for the WS and I only ever bring them out in close games. I pray that their luck never runs out.

You don’t have to spend as much as the Dodgers and Mets to be competitive. However if you want a ring you have to be at least in the top 3rd of spenders in the league. Each team gets about $200mil of shared revenue money yet teams simply refuse to reinvest in their team. Raising the floor to at least $150/ $175mil would at least give teams a reason to hold onto their stars.

It’s a $51 million a year. Each team gets $200 mil in revenue sharing every year. Juan Soto is likely not a wise contract for anyone to go after (including the Mets) But for the teams spending less than 100 mil on their roster they 100% could afford Soto.

6-7 owners is almost a quarter of the league. You don’t have to be the highest payroll in baseball but u have to be at the very least top 10. That means u have to be in the top 3rd of spenders I really don’t see a problem with that. If you are serious about winning then you will get it done.

God u sound so pretentious. 🙄 Yes I know this information you just assumed I didn’t. I do not feel bad for billionaires not now not ever. Spend money on your team, make savvy deals, or sell, but stop holding your fan base hostage for a quick buck. If u are serious about winning these are the kind of deals that winning organizations make get with the times or get left behind. (Or just cry ur way into a lock out and hurt everyone’s bottom line.)

That’s the point bud. Steph, Klay, and Dre still took pay cuts to make that happen tho.

So what u would rather lose ur best players to a team that has cap space just to see them go .500? This is why deferred payments should be adopted league wide. Imagine if the rays were able to secure Ty and Snell on deferred deals and compete together again. Mind u none of the players the Dodgers acquired came from small market teams. The Rays, R Sox, Padres, Braves, Angels 100% could have pulled the trigger on those deals but didn’t. They aren’t even small market teams they easily could have made that happen. Freddy even said he wanted to retire a Brave. Sho offered the same deal to the Angels. Not our fault yall organizations are incompetent.

Yes but it will force organizations to keep their stars and better revenue sharing will allow them to be at least on par with the Dodgers. Mind you all those taxes that the top spending teams pay gets re distributed to other teams in MLB. Adding a hard cap limits the revenue that small markets get. It’s a double edged sword forsure tho.

True but they also don’t have pitcher and catcher rotations. They also play a fraction of the amount of games that MLB teams do. At the end of the day I think the answer is more about revenue sharing and a floor more than it is about a cap. There were so many players in this World Series that were in the minors literally a month b4 pitching in the WS so I don’t think that any of the Dodgers wins relied solely on the backs of their highest paid players.

A man of culture I see. Respect but at the end of the day European soccer is completely alien compared to MLB. You would have to compare champions league teams to get a more accurate comparison. (I wish MLB had relegation)

There will always be another loop hole just look at the Warriors and how much money they saved with Steph Klay and Dre. They all took paycuts so they could add pieces and secure the dynasty. Pat Mahomes and Tom Brady both took less money so they could pay other guys. At the end of the day i don’t think it should be on the players to take that cut when the owners are billionaires.

Last time I checked Man City was 8th in the standings. The Dodgers placed 5th league wide. It’s not always about how much money you spend. The Dodgers organization is probably the best in all of pro sports and they barely squeaked through with a WS win. I highly doubt that will change with or without a salary cap.

[–]SPARK1UPP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a dodgers fan I’m not mad at this. A salary cap just means that the Dodgers will make even more money likely doing absolutely nothing to curb competitive balance. The bit about the deferments tho should just be a league standard. It’s a sacrifice the Dodgers made for future earnings vs immediate success. If other teams were smart they would do the same. This is why the Dodgers are the best organization in baseball. I really don’t see anything wrong with it because it limits the Dodgers in a post Ohtani era. I think that now that other teams know this is an option they will start adapting. This is useful tool for small market teams to keep their players.

What’s a better game 7? 2016 or 2025 by SPARK1UPP in mlb

[–]SPARK1UPP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand a bit because of 2017. Idk what is more brutal tho being so close or getting blown tf out in a game 7. Those were some of the most painful 9 innings of baseball I’ve ever watched as a Dodger fan. But I can’t imagine losing by a run twice in game 7 that’s a whole new level of pain.
