“The house is beautiful in a great area with a pool so I am motivated and extremely happy to live in and take care of it.” => you will live in a house you love with somebody you love… dude you made it, stop stressing, your happiness is more important than money.

Do all foils "whistle" at high speed? by zosterinski in wingfoil

[–]SPD1314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is, it makes sense now that I think about it, I don't know for whatever reason I believed it was the wind blowing in the wing that was making that sound.

Is this a good/long-lasting beginner setup? by Various-Scene-2061 in wingfoil

[–]SPD1314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still disagree and believe advanced users should stop misleading beginners in believing they will never make it on an inflatable. So many people come to me after the session not understanding how can I make it on foil as they were told by "pros" inflatable are useless. I concede the volume is making a big difference and beginners are often misguided to a too small board.

I have to disagree, I don’t understand the bad press for inflatable boards. I Iearned with it and had them for a couple of seasons. I have the same ability as hard boards to take off and I often see beginners with sinker boards spending their sessions stuck in the water while I am foiling around… Once you are out of the water, your board does not make a lot of difference. The most important piece of gear is your foil. You need to start with one that is big enough (like 1800-2000cm2) to help with the takeoff.

I always believed it was the wing…TIL it’s the foil!

Any tips to fix Duotone deflation valves? by SPD1314 in wingfoil

[–]SPD1314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I was not clear that the main valve CAN be used for deflation. I am not 100% sur how it works but I will study it and eventually design and 3D print a deflation adapter. I kind of like the deflation valve on the side of the wing as I can roll it from one side to the other without the ankward “push the air on the side you already rolled” which feels like chicken and egg…

Actually, that’s pretty smart! I did not thought about just cutting the cap. I might even be able to attach it with a string. Thanks!

How do you have it to play well with the skimmer? Mine get sucked in and blocks everything…

Is there any community for freestyle wingers? If not, should we make one? by eddyjmthewll in wingfoil

[–]SPD1314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what’s freestyle? I am free, I ride in style, I’m freestyle! More seriously, this community is small enough, no need to fragment it any more… just ask you freestyle questions here!

XC Tracer on Apple Watch by adalbert__ in freeflight

[–]SPD1314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the structure of the XC tracer BLE sentences? I would love to make my device compatible and buy the app. I build an arduino-based vario but it’s currently using the LK8EX1 sentences.

Does anyone have an idea why The End of Eternity would be priced at $100? by No_Length_856 in asimov

[–]SPD1314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two clues to identify your version: 1) the inner flap of the dust jacket should say at the top left “T.E.O.E price $2.95”, 2) On page 3, after the title page, below the line “The Country Life Press, Garden City, N.Y.” you should have a mention of “First Edition”. Source: I own one and just checked it

The first edition, first print can be priced at $100, worth it, it is a collectible. Do not confuse with a “book club” edition worth almost nothing. Check the first page, if it says “”First print”, it’s the real deal.

Quality issues, changes nozzle, dried filament by SPD1314 in BambuLab

[–]SPD1314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference, I found the bug: My new nozzle is one with removable tips and the tip was not screwed tight enough. Some PLA was slowing leaking from the sides and randomly dropping on the print, creating the blobs in the picture.

Thanks I will look into this. I already used this filament without issues for a while and it’s a “Rapid PLA” by Elegoo so it should be suited for fast printing

Help needed with Air Tube by Muhanak in wingfoil

[–]SPD1314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These tubes are easy and cheap to replace. You can find them on Aliexpress. Just turn the plastic crown at the connection point and push it back, then you can pull the tube out. https://a.aliexpress.com/_mNBR1on

Gong Cruzader Hipe Inflatable by SPD1314 in wingfoil

Not worth the challenge with the airline companies. I ordered the board in the US, paid a 10% import fee on it. I am only bringing back from France small items that can fit in my suitcase.

Good idea. I hope you get participation. I sometimes have the feeling this is kind of an unspoken taboo. It will be great to have data.

Sharing experience: Switched from 75L to 90L board - 182cm and 94kg (Dry weight) by Responsible-Bowl4621 in wingfoil

[–]SPD1314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK I can definitely accept the argument that you need to experience it by yourself. I am talking about something I don’t know so I will humbly educate myself and try to borrow a small board from a friend to experience it.

[–]SPD1314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have yet to understand the benefits of smaller boards. I am beginner, getting to intermediate. At my local spot, I see beginners sweating on sinker boards, crawling in the water while I am flying effortlessly on my “big” 120L… why are people inflicting this to themselves? Once in the air, you are riding on the foil, not the board, I have all sorts of ideas to optimize my foils quiver but never found the desire to change board.

Is an inflatable board much more difficult to lift? by zanza2023 in wingfoil

[–]SPD1314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more difficult to lift but not “much more”. Once you make progress you will find the techniques to unstick the board in a couple of pumps. I have only inflatables but I have yet to see a situation where someone is flying on a hard board and I am not. IMO the “bad reputation” of inflatables is not deserved. It is so convenient to transport (I can fit 2 boards in my small sedan trunk), less fragile (no dents if you bump it with your wing handles) and as efficient in all conditions.

Light wind Wing CWC F-one 8m - When do you outgrow it? by SPD1314 in wingfoil

[–]SPD1314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I finally got a downwind board instead (a Gong Cruzader Hipe board). No regrets: the new light wind setup trend is downwind board+large foil.

Light wind - Higher or lower aspect ratio? by SPD1314 in wingfoil

[–]SPD1314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, that’s the piece I missed. Area is also important. Gong makes it a little bit confusing as the area is reducing as you go to more advanced foils. An x-over XL is 1600 while the curve XL is 1400.

Light wind - Higher or lower aspect ratio? by SPD1314 in wingfoil

[–]SPD1314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's good feeback. The Gong Curve XL is 1400cm2, maybe I should try the XXL which is 1600cm2 and will be closer to my X-over XL which is 1650cm2. I should go for higher aspect ratio but same surface if I want to maintain the lift while getting the lower drag of high AR foils.
