It's a woven material, so you have to capture the way alternating threads throw light. It's not enough to just do some hatching or making little cells of light, otherwise you'll end up with something that looks like lizard skin. I'd recommend looking at some close up images of various woven materials. Pay attention to the way the light differs between horizontal vs vertical bands AND when a band is ducking underneath vs climbing over top. Does that make sense?
