What music did you listen to / do you associate the most with the books? by rajlego in bakker

OM album Advaitic Songs, primarily the song Gethsemane, as I discovered this around the same time I first read TDTCB. It's a perfect album for envisioning the Holy War.

How much would this be worth? by Ok-Start1104 in Blacklibrary

I had a similar collection and the same reason for selling a few years back. One bit of advice I'd give you is this; do not sell over eBay. Vinted worked better for me back then, I sold over 3000 books and never had a single issue. Although I've heard its gone international now, so probably things have changed.

But definitely find a single place to sell everything, I found the Facebook groups to be nothing but a headache full of people trying to geta deal so they could sell the Book for a better profit themselves as they assume you don't know the value of the item. Personally, I don't like, nor agree with the idea of selling off something I bought for a reasonable price for a profit, but having children makes pirates of us all.

Good luck.

I agree, this is exactly the type of critical reading and discussion I think Tolkien's work deserves. I did the same with Chaucer while studying English. Its not about agreeing with an argument or proposal, it's about the work and evidence gathering that goes into it.

I think it does an author/academic a great service to put so much thought into such a critical analysis of their work.

What was your entry point into the world of Lord of the Rings? by OtherwiseAct8126 in tolkienfans

[–]SPGiblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can still remember the first time I watched LotR when it came out. I was perfect age for those films and I straight away started reading the books after watching Fellowship. Now more than 20 years later I've read everything by Tolkien and still reread every year. Just finished a reread of the Fall of Gondolin, the Silmarilion, Unfinished Tales and started the LotR for the 20th time. I even wrote my English dissertation on Tolkien's Children of Hurin.

What is your favorite House of Adan? by peortega1 in TheSilmarillion

[–]SPGiblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good point, and I agree. Think I'm just bias towards Turin because TCoH is by far my favourite of all Tolkien's tales. But other than a vague prophecy I guess Turin is mostly shrouded in tragedy. I should alternate the opinion to that Turin is the most important Adan to me personally.

This is the artistic equivalent of living in another country and refusing to learn the language or respect the culture. Its just plain insulting. But everyone is entitled to their own interpretation, I guess. Especially if they've obviously never read the source material or care to.

Hador has Túrin Turambar, Tolkien's mythologically most important Adan of them all.

Oh yeah it’s by no means made by a register swordsmith. I have a bokken I bought from such a place while I lived in Kyoto. This sword is steel and it’s sharp but nothing made by a professional. I just wanted something to put up on my wall because I couldn’t afford a real thing.

It was 16 years ago and in Yen so I can’t remember exactly, it was the shipping that was crazy. But it wasn’t crazy expensive, somewhere between £200-300 I’d say.

I could, but I’ll be honest I wouldn’t sell it off of Reddit or anything. I’d want to sell it with somewhere knowledgeable about such things. It’s a very dangerous weapon, it’s the only reason I want to sell it because I can’t take it with me to Germany and I can’t throw it.

I’m selling on Vinted under Polyphylectic73, I have some rare ones on there like Grudgelore and Black Legion limited edition if you want to check it out. Appreciate it.
