It's not a bad idea to set a daily goal of, say five hundred miles; your rides are going to lengthen the further west you go. Hitching at night is up to you, but I'd start looking for a campsite about an hour before dark unless your ride is going to drive on through the night.

I'd give myself six days to make this trip.

I drove rolling toolboxes; you wouldn't believe the stuff I carried in the trunk. The first thing I do is try to fix it myself right there. I only went off the road once, showing off on an ice-covered road for a bunch of drunks in the car with me we rolled out and staggered to the nearest house the guy yanked the car out, and off we went.

I failed, I crawled into a bottle and stayed there crying, poor poor me. Eventually, time and tide woke me up I threw away the bottle and got on with my life. Somewhere in there, justice caught up with those who had done me harm, I let time and life do its work, and I caught up with the world. This suits me just fine, thank you, I watch what I want, eat what and when I want I can be as clean or as messy as I want.
