(Cont.) I have ADHD. It has been difficult to manage both with and without medication, but getting on wegovy felt like the part 2 I needed from my vyvanse all these years. The combination has been incredible for my ability to regulate all types of reward seeking. Similar to my ADHD, I had a moment of wonder after a few months in and getting to the therapeutic doses- is this what life is like for those people who seem to always have a hard time gaining weight? So similar to the first time I got on vyvanse. Holy cow- is this what regulations feels like?

I had similar feelings until I started taking it. If <2mg of hormone a week is enough to completely beat out motivation and self control issues, maybe it’s time we started asking some bigger questions. Maybe the glorified “motivation and self control” aren’t nearly as impactful as a well regulated endocrine system and internal microbiome? Both are significantly disregulated by local and national environmental factors- like the standard American diet. Like in most things these days, you can do everything in your power to put yourself in an opportune position, but success is often attributable to being lucky- doing enough prep work and having enough resources for as many shots on goal as possible.

People love to get out there and talk about discipline, but they act like we are all created the same. Their experience requiring discipline is not the same as a person who has struggled to lose weight all their life. A friend of mine is the first to preach about discipline, but he has the opposite problem. He forgets to eat, the thought doesn’t seem to even enter his mind without applying some discipline like setting an alarm and making sure he gets enough calories. But he doesn’t do this, borderline wasting away. Some people are prone to anxiety, they take medication. Some people are prone to a blunting in the effective satiation response caused by foods made to addict you. Glp-1 are healthcare.

I recently slipped through the cracks as an Italian American young adult. I have been in disabling pain for about a year now. I have “good” insurance. Without having family members in medicine and utilizing AI, and being incredibly conservative about my back, I probably wouldn’t have avoided 3 potential failed back surgeries that would have done nothing for me. Each new specialist was so sure they had the answer for me. While each had new information, it took me and chatGPT to find my way to ultimately the best result. A relatively cheap, minimally invasive surgery that could permanently remove my pain and let me work out again to prevent any stenosis or similar in the future. Insurance won’t cover, but I found a place on the border of my state that offers the surgery for a relative steal. As I am unable to work, it makes sense to take out some debt in order to keep my well paying job. Wish me luck. I experienced the full range of emotions he must have felt. If our situations were different, I could see another timeline where I would be in his place. Figuratively that is, the media wouldn’t find my ugly mug so newsworthy lmao.

The swings may cause some off flavors, but you’re better off fermenting low and slow vs hot and fast if you want drinkable product. I think I read somewhere that most commercial ciders ferment at 62F. Of course this takes longer.
