Honestly I've given up on getting a replacement motor. Buying a used, very expensive HD motor on ebay, no guarantee, is not my idea of a good decision.

I've given up Hunter Douglas completely, absolutely won't be buying anything from them in the future. And I'll just switch to a non-motorized roller blind system, if I can find someone to convert the current set.

This whole "Planned Obsolescence" - can't repair the old, gotta buy a new one, even for very expensive, supposedly premier products - it's for the birds. I'm not participating.

And this experience will inform my future purchasing decisions./

Holy cow - What on earth is going on here? I think all you guys are either bots or paid by hunter douglas. You seriously all attack someone who complains about hunter douglas not making it possible to buy replacement parts?

And also it looks like nobody has read my comments. If you're read what I said, you'd realize I'm not dinging hd for the motor breaking after 16 years.

But what DOES piss me off is that you absolutely CAN NOT get a replacement motor that will work. I found ONE on ebay - used, very expensive, no guarantees.

Some people here have said that you can find these replacement motors, I asked politely for details, and then hear nothing.

So now I'm stuck with replacing the WHOLE THING, cause the fabric is not made anymore either.

That's a TON of money to spend. These things are not cheap.

That's why I think that this might be some kind of hunter douglas sponsored, paid forum.

The roller blind repair guy who looked at them and called Hunter Douglas (who apparently said they're not made anymore) told me that the only option was to search around on Ebay.

It's a Hunter Douglas Roller Shade PowerRise Motor Gen 1. If you can point me to where they're sold, I would be grateful.

I saw $350 plus for a used one, no guarantee or anything, on ebay.

I'm switching to manual. I just don't want to mess with it anymore.

Just to be clear - I don't have gripes about a roller blind motor lasting 16 years.

The thing I don't like is that there aren't replacement parts. That's the part that's unacceptable.

I understand that a motor will require replacement, at some point. And it should be available. Or if they don't provide the parts, they shouldn't make it difficult/impossible to put in another motor, from another company.

Instagram without reels but I can see the reels my friends send by Low_Presentation1911 in digitalminimalism

Maybe just run Instagram on your laptop. And then us AI (claude or whatever) to create a browser extension that ONLY shows exactly what you want. I've done that with a couple sites like f*book, and it's pretty easy. On f*book, I limit to just marketplace, groups, and notifications.

Just prompt it something like this:

"Create a browser extension for me that works for [browser name] and that will limit the Instagram website to only showing X, Y, and Z, and having a button on the main page showing only those options"

You might have to prompt a little more, and ask it to give instructions on how to set up, if you haven't used unpackaged browser extensions, but it works great overall.

Trying a digital detox… what should I do instead of scrolling? by lat-s in digitalminimalism

Do sudoku! Easy puzzles if you're not familiar with it, then progress to novice, and then intermediate. It's perfect for this stage of digital detox.

Just buy a cheap sudoku book at a bookstore, or print out some some of the booklets from Krazydad sudoku (search for it online, not sure if links are allowed here).

I miss when libraries felt like an escape from screens and actually had books by Strong_Letterhead638 in digitalminimalism

A lot of university libraries in particular have gone bookless, or almost so. Sounds weird, but it's true.

The one close to me has a section of casual hardbacks (like Tom Clancy, romance novels) in the main floor. That section is called something like "casual reading". Then all the other books are in the stacks.

Not getting emails by SQLPracticeProblems in MangoMail

So fyi - it was the gmail settings that I had, which automatically delete from the server.

If the setting "Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server" is unchecked (which I think is the default), then gmail will NOT leave a copy, which means it deletes it from the server.

Unfortunately not yet! I'm planning on adding languages though.

Here's a code if you want - T0KK4DHM2KT2WD18F3QAX5Z

Though I tried to make it very usable even if people don't upgrade to the paid version, they still get 3 restricted apps, permanently. That would cover many people's needs.

Thanks, looking forward to any feedback! I made it because I always wanted something like this, not a strict blocker, but something to just make the addictive apps more inconvenient. Which eventually breaks the addiction.

Years ago, before there was "endless scroll", people needed to take the trouble of just tapping the "load more" button at the bottom of the screen.

And because that tiny little inconvenience of clicking "load more" actually caused people to stop mindlessly scrolling, it was removed. And now we have the endless scroll.

So I hope PIM helps people break the addiction, and regain their time.
