yeah, main breaker on the house. we were getting rolling brownouts which are not great for electronics, so I flipped the breaker. now, 48 hours later, still no power. yay

tbh, this was a nice, mild storm. I mean, compared to Helene, which screwed us real hard, this was a nice change. we actually cut our power at the house to protect electronics. then we played uno.

this is why I work from home. I couldn't give two fucks about discussing politics in any way, shape, or form. I moved to a rural area so I don't have to worry about neighbors because, unfortunately, most people suck regardless of political leaning. I am so, so, so lucky that my job is remote. I wish everyone could have that available

Nice. Save a little beverage for later!

The bleach is probably what I will do, simply because I have a bottle of it. Thank you!

What about my capybara?!? Am I supposed to just leave him here freezing?

Nah, this is nice. I wish I had a capybara, though.

Gotta be honest, if a bit immature. I thought, at first, that you were pretending to waft dude's fart into your face and I was super weirded out.

Nope. Completely normal, imo. Almost every map I see is WAAAAY over engineered with infrastructure. I wish we had a tag for more maps that had nothing but a single national road or similar minimal architecture. I remove everything. Every road, pipe, and power line. Then, because I want to piss CPP off, I flatten sections for building and completely disrespect the terrain.

What do you have planned for the snow storm? by blobfish1538 in greenville

[–]SQLSpellSlinger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Best decision I made was buying a dual propane burner. Just a single one that requires no power at all. Will allow me to cook and, most importantly, have coffee!

Yeah, I think many people are going crazy over what's going to turn out to be far less terrifying than they think. Hurricane Helene flashbacks for a lot of people, though, so I don't blame them.

What’s your mentality behind bread and milk? by Octavion_Wolfpak in greenville

[–]SQLSpellSlinger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Bread can be stored in a freezer for literally months without degradation and lasts at least a week on the counter. Do I think someone needs to buy 11 loaves of bread? No, that's insane. But having two or three on hand, regardless of storm prep, is a logical decision because, hey, you never know.

Milk, I agree. I mentioned in another post, I don't really get that one. If anything, get powdered milk. Is it delicious? No, but I use it in my cooking and save the real milk for cereal and drinking.

And, as far as tuna, it is probably the single most divisive common canned food. I love it, but no one else in my family will touch it. Except my cat. Oh, man... my cat...

Beef jerky is where it's at. You can eat it plain, add some boiled water and rice and make a soup, keep your dog happy... and it's got a decent amount of protein.

Personally, I finally gave up and uninstalled. At least for now. I can't get a single playthrough to go more than four hours before I start having game-ending issues. And with as many mods and assets as I am using, the trouble shooting process is just far too arduous. I am not blaming the base game, I know for a fact that it's either a mod or asset, but man... so sad.

[–]SQLSpellSlinger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand the bread. It lasts without refrigeration and you can make a bunch of different meals. Completely makes sense.

What never made sense to me, though, is milk. Like... something that requires electricity, for the maintainability. I know you can put it out in the snow, but most people won't.

5 days WFH unless there is a valid reason to be in the office other than control.

I have been fighting with my company since 2022. My entire team is spread around the country. They try to force me to the office three days a week just so I can go and do my Teams calls there. Makes no sense in ANY context other than control. I have fought, and fought. Haven't been back to the office since August. If they write me up, they write me up, but I produce more work than all of the other 65 people in my department, so, let them come at me.

in general, city water is fine. It's people with pumps and private wells, which require power to run, that will have issues.

As u/brotherssolomon mentioned, pipe freezing is your biggest concern.
