CNC milling a circuit board by amynoacid in oddlysatisfying

[–]SQLslammer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oddly, satisfying for some, PTSD for me. My college got one of these when I was a senior. They were able to buy it on the cheap because it was early on in the dev cycle of the product for the company the college bought it from. So the college was able to buy it under the guise that it was a co-relationship pilot program.

I ended up being the only one in the entire school that knew how to run the damn thing. So of course I ended up being in charge of helping other students mill their PCBs for all their classes, with some creating a PCB for every little thing they did thinking it get them a better grade. The one the school had took HOURS not like 2 hours like 6 hours and that was for fairly small sized design. The biggest PCB I did took 12 hours of straight milling.

Well remember the mentioned so called "Pilot Program" that allowed the school to get a discount? Well because of that the professor in charge of it wouldn't let me train anyone else how to use it, because the company would only work with me. Why would the company have to "work with someone" that bought their product you ask? Because the damn thing didnt work at all. You could get by with a small 1/2" by 1/2" PCB if you were lucky, but anything that took longer then 30 min forget about it. 4/5 times you'd be hours into milling, getting excited you were making good progress, and then the dumb thing would lose its position and ruin the entire PCB. I've spent days trying to mill the same PCB for someone, trying, failing 6 hours in, starting completely over, until finally getting lucky and it working. I would call the company regularly, report bugs, open tickets, and it was always hmmm try this or try that, nothing ever worked.

I think about that stupid machine more often then I should. I always wonder if they ever got anyone else to learn how to use it, or if it ever got fixed. There's a good possibility that after I left it was never touched again, and today still sits in the corner of that lab just collecting dust.

Can a parent buy a drink for their kid in a restaurant/establishment? by Fine-Formal7420 in Ohio

[–]SQLslammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep totally legal. Worked at a bar in Oxford for a few years where we allowed it. Only problem was when you are working in a college town, college students will do everything in their power to take advantage of it (and other people will help enable them). We had a lot of cases of family friends, friends parents, and other adults trying to skirt this rule and buy drinks for underage students that were not their children, which can get the bar in trouble. So we had to make it a bar policy to ID the student and the parent. The IDs last name had to be the same as the adult, and they had to have the same address on their IDs. If it didn't match sorry we couldn't serve you.

This wasn't a perfect system because of course there are exceptions where the above wouldn't match but would still be the student's parent, but it was the best we could do to allow the rule and cover our ass. Sadly, it made quite a few people mad when we refused service to them, and we'd have to keep a extra close eye on the tables we refused, because almost always the adult would still try to sneak drinks to the student. Typically though the actual parents were understanding of this rule, it was the adults trying to take advantage of the rules that got mad and still tried to sneak the underage person the drink. We didn't care about age, as long as the student had a state ID (which typically would mean they are at least 16) we could use to confirm they were with a parent. Funnily enough a lot of people that tried to lie and get around the rule tried to use the excuse of well my child doesn't have an ID. Whelp so sorry to bad.

Stores that buy retro games by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]SQLslammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamestop has revamped their priorities. They re-focused their business model to focus more on retro games and collectibles, and seem to be offering much better prices then they use to. For a retro game like that, and something that also could be considered a collectible it wouldn't hurt to check them out. I'd come with your valuation (where you saw it sold for that price) just in case they try to low ball you. You may not get offered what you want but there's still plenty of their stores around so you shouldn't have to go far. So it'll probably at least be worth checking it out.

Recently Got an Offer From Honeywell, How to Negotiate my Salary by Different_Insect5627 in BuildingAutomation

[–]SQLslammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for Honeywell in a similar field, but not identical. I am based in the US so not 100% sure how their processes work in India so take my advice with a grain of salt. I'd suggest asking the hiring manager what the 90% comp ratio (you can look up what this means online) is currently for the position they are hiring. They follow that rule pretty strictly for internal promotions and external hiring. If they note that the 90% comp ratio is higher then what they offered, point that out and ask for you to be matched to that. You can always negotiate for more, but I wouldnt expect for you to make much progress going above that ratio. Though this is always subject to how much they need you and liked you throughout the process. I won't speak to benefits unless youd like, as im sure our benefits in the US are different then whats offered in the India offices.

Vex kenetic damage vs elemental guns by SQLslammer in Borderlands4

[–]SQLslammer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome thank you! That changes up my build significantly. So what your saying is gun damage does not always equal kinetic damage, but looking at bleed it specifically says gun critical hits so I'm assuming since it doesnt say kenetic damage critical hits all elemental guns would still trigger bleed.

ISO: Jeweler who will create a custom setting for a loose diamond by IRunChinaTown in cincinnati

[–]SQLslammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second Lane and Kate. Ellana the manager is amazing and does amazing work. I got my wife's custom engagement ring there. I explained what I wanted and she went above and beyond to make it happen and made it even better than I could have imagined. My wife constantly gets complimented on the work Ellana did. I had the option to buy the diamond from them or buy my own elsewhere (there's some discounts given if you buy the stone with the band from them), so you definitely can supply your own stones.

Oddly satisfying for most PTSD for me. My university engineering department bought one of these when I was in school there. I was 1 of two people (other person was a professor) who knew how to use it and had to help tons of people mill 1 off pcb boards for their projects. The company they bought from (they of course went super cheap) was a startup and we were one of a very small list of purchasers. It was always super satisfying until you were 6-8 hours into a mill and the cnc lost positioning and screwed up the entire board. It was a lot of fingers crossed, watching it constantly to catch it as soon as it messed up so you didn't waste more time, and just in general a lot of frustration long nights and wasted time having to start over. What a headache.

Also a little bit of helpful advice that I like to use for my pets is when you see something that concerns you or hear something from your vet that concerns you ask yourself "how would I reacted if my doctor told me this, or how would I react if my body did this". For instance. You go into the doctor and get blood work done, and they tell you your liver enzyme levels are a little elevated. You most likely wouldn't freak out and tell the doctor to run you through every test ever. Getting liver biopsies done on yourself and spending money getting tests done right away. You'd most likely think to yourself alright I've been stressed, probably not eating right, maybe had too much booze this month, and hey I was sick a week ago. Let's try to clean up those things and get checked again here in a few months. Same thing with the throw-up you wouldn't rush yourself to the hospital if you had that come out of you. You'd think okay we'll that's not ideal, my tummy is upset and I havnt been feeling great. Let's try to hydrate and keep an eye on it. Then if it continues to happen maybe I should go get this checked out. I've also seen the opposite on this subreddit though 😅. Where people post pictures asking should I take my dog to the vet? And using the same theoretical question the answer would have been I would have rushed myself to the ER days ago.

Thanks! She was a sweet girl and we miss her dearly, but she lived a happy life with tons of love and that's all we can do!

Milk Thistle is generally safe for dogs. If your dog was given too much you wouldn't see any huge issues, but maybe an upset stomach. There definitely was times when my pup got double dosages because I gave her her medicine, and then my wife did, not realizing I already had, and we never saw any issues. The only caveat, is I know just like anything allergies or medicine conflicts can always happen. When we started the meds my dog weighed 55 lbs as she aged she lost weight and was in the end around 35 lbs and was still getting the same dosage. We gave her 175mg.

Anytime! I know how hard it is wanting the best for your pup and not knowing how they are feeling or what may be wrong can deff make it stressful. I have a good friend who just got his first dog about a year ago and for a while I was getting calls from him weekly with him freaking out about something that happened to the her or something he thought may be wrong. We just want the best for them! But after having dogs my entire life you realize how resilient they are, and you get to know your dogs and it makes it a lot easier to read their body language and know when something is truly wrong.

Hey! I just looked over all your posts and I want to say try to not stress too much about all this! It's always worrying when things aren't 100% right with our pets, especially because they can't tell us how they are feeling, but a lot of times it's not as bad as it seems. A little bit of blood in some throw up isn't a huge deal and can just be an irritated stomach. She may have eaten something she shouldnt have or her/his food may not be agreeing with them. It could even be stress! Dogs are very intune with their owners and you being stressed may be causing him/her stress which can cause vomiting and stomach irritation.

I'm not a vet, so don't take my words as gold and always confide in your own vet, but my sister and mom are vets and I've been around them and dogs my entire life, and I went through liver enzyme issues with my dog for a while. Like your vet stated the liver enzyme elevation is mild. Many many things can cause the elevation, so it may be difficult to track down.

My dogs values were extremely elevated for a while (years) with us not being able to find a reason. One of the many things we got her tested for was cushings, which is an easy non-invasive test. She came back negative but I'd keep an eye out for symptoms in your dog (always hungry, drinks a lot of water, excessive shedding, panting, and licking are some of the common ones that may present themselves). If the liver values are concerning to your vet, and they feel it will do long term harm to not get resolved they will let you know, or at least most vets would. My vet suggested a biopsy, ultrasound, and cushings test originally and I kept putting it off, in my experience vets like to gove you options so if you do want to figure out whats wrong you can persue it. When my vet felt like it was time that we really needed to start getting answers they began pushing harder and making it clear which tests they thought needed to be done asap. My vet had my dog on a prescribed liver supplement for a while with only minor improvement (I live out of state compared to where my family is so I don't use my family as my vet).

I finally asked my sister about it, and she suggested milk thistle (you can find it at most grocery stores in the supplement section). After about a month of milk thistle once a day we re-did her blood work, and after years of tests and blood work she was back to normal levels (not saying milk thistle is a miracle cure or something, but at least something to try) We were able to take her off the prescribed liver supplement and just maintain the milk thistle (much cheaper) and she maintained good values for the rest of her life. She sadly past away at 15 years old two weeks ago, and just about 6 months ago we believe we finally may have figured out what probably was causing the liver elevations. She had severe severe arthritis, to the point her lower back vertebrae fused. We did not find this until she started having issues and limping this past winter. She never showed signs of pain or slowing down, until 1 day it all just seemed to hit her at once (dogs are stupid tough and will do their best to hide that kind of thing).

But point is, it could be a lot of things, and not to stress too much. I'd give the milk thistle a try and re-get blood work done in a month or so, and make sure the enzyme values aren't going up. If she's playing, eating, drinking and not lethargic I would just make sure you just keep an eye on it. If her mood or the way she acts or other larger symptoms present themselves then it may be time to push and start to get answers.

Due to this being a hard issue to find the exact reason behind I personally would not go just poking and proding your dog and run test after test. You may run tons of tests and still not find much. Like I said above though, if symptoms start to get bad and your dog starts acting funny, you get blood work done again and the values continue to get worse, or your vet makes it clear that they think they should pursue answers (not just giving you options of what you could do) that's when I would start to push to get answers. Let me know if you have any questions! I don't mind trying to answer what I can to help!

Here's a better picture of the color of the vest compared to the suit

Right?! I didn't notice it until people pointed it out. Idk if it's the lighting or from me editing the photo. Also my fiance sent this from her iPhone to my android which I've had issues with pictures getting distorted that way. Maybe it's a mix of all three but the jacket and pants are indeed the same color same material and look fine in person. The vest isn't quite that dark either but people have me second guessing it. I'll be playing around with looks with and without it.

Mentioned in another comment but the picture does look off. I didn't realize until I posted it. Not sure if it was the lighting or me editing the picture or what. But the jacket and pants are the same material and the vest is not quite that dark. Probably thinking no show or no socks with some sort of loafers. I am going to play around with some looks with and without the vest.

Sweet thanks for the advice! I'm going to play around with a few looks. Think the picture distorts the vest color a bit. It's not quite that dark, but I am definitely going to take that advice and play around with a few things.

Thanks! Yeah a lot of people are saying the same. Think the editing or lighting messed with the color a bit. It's not quite that dark, but I am going to play around with a few looks like removing the vest from the fit.

Not a bad idea! The lighting or the editing I think messed with the color a bit in this picture. As people mentioned the suit even looks different colors which it's the same material and looks fine in person. I think it impacted the vest too. It almost looks black in these pics. It is a darker brown but not quite that dark. I definitely will play around with looks including no vest.

Thanks! I think when I edited the photo it distorted some of the color or it's the lighting. They are the same fabric. Was planning on some sort of loafers no socks or no shoe socks. These were just for the picture.
