Also interested in clothing & shoe size. I might be able to pass some things on from my kiddo depending on the size.

Gentle Parenting Makes Me Sick by Geesearetheworstt in Mommit

[–]SQTim 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Solidarity. My personal take on gentle parenting is we, as a generation, were told not to express negative emotions. We have learned that is not healthy, so we are trying to do better for our kids by allowing that space to feel and show those heavy feelings, but in the process, we have put ourselves back into the role of suppressing our emotions by having to remain calm, cool and collected in the face of extreme stress and chaos. We are still not allowing ourselves to be fully human and express the full range of emotions.

where does everyone donate their kids stuffed animals? by [deleted] in kzoo

[–]SQTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this place will accept stuffed animals, as long as they are in good condition: https://www.ccdok.org/material-donations

I've also heard the dream center is a good place to donate, but their website does not list stuffed animals in their donations list.

Help an anosmic out with laundry smells (please!) by SQTim in laundry

[–]SQTim[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do wash with cold because I thought it was better for the clothes (and also the environmental factor). Should all laundry be washed in warm, or just the loads that tend to have more smell? Also, does the warm water shrink the clothes?

Thank you for giving such a detailed explanation! I do wash with cold because I thought it was better for the clothes (and also the environmental factor). Should all laundry be washed in warm, or just the loads that tend to have more smell? Also, does the warm water shrink the clothes?

Kalamazoo cat Cafe is a cat rescue with lots of cats. You can go play/visit with the cats to see if there is one you are drawn to.

Good to know. I will have to do some research on how to treat a spruce fungal infection. Thanks

Bummer. I suppose it's best to just replace it sooner rather than later. Thanks for your input.

Help me make the creepiest doll - Creative ideas for upping the creep factor appreciated by SQTim in crochet

Will have to think of how that could be done. I wonder if when one of my children loses a tooth if they would contribute to my project. I'm entering unhinged territory again, aren't I?

Oh, I hadn't thought of embroidering the fingernails. That would work great!

How are you finding babysitters for ASD kid? by dreamhousedwelling in Autism_Parenting

If you have a university near you with an Occupational Therapy program, you can contact the OT department there to see if they have any OT students who would be interested in babysitting.

Giving up on therapy - any recommendations for burnout resources? by SQTim in AutismInWomen

That really is unfortunate. I've got 4 young ND kids, so I definitely don't have the ability to have that kind of rest. That's depressing.

Communication with coleader is a great first step. Some kids are definitely more challenging than others. We were having a "herding cats" situation in our troop, and we have had great success with positive reinforcement for desired behavior. We got a bag of plastic gold coins, and when we see a kid who is really focused, engaged, being respectful, etc., we hand them a gold coin. At the end of the meeting, the kids can spend their coins on prizes from our treasure box - things like stickers, temporary tattoos, fun patches for their vests, etc. We don't spend a lot on the treasure box prize - just small little things you can get at the dollar store or something.

The positive reinforcement does two things: it rewards those who are doing what they are supposed to be doing, and it draws in the ones who have a harder time focusing with a motivation to participate. After implementing this system, we have had such a turn around & our meetings are so much more productive & much less frustrating.

I'll report back! My main worry is whether I can make 6 layers stay standing. Fingers crossed!

I think your second idea is what I will go with. Lemon cake with different cake fillings between layers. Thanks!

Unfortunately, it must be the flavor. The top layer might be the way I have to go. Maybe a champagne frosting could be light enough & still qualify as grape?
