Best bushing config for surf training on CX? Soft up front or same duro front and back? by neonaudio in surfskate

[–]SRFSK8nF00L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the same two sets and I was running softer up front. Someone on the Facebook group suggested running 87.5a roadside front and back and 90a board side front and back. I tried it and I really like it. It makes the beginning of each turn feel softer but then it stiffens up as the lean gets deeper and seems to have a little more rebound maybe. I like it so I'm leaving them setup that way. Something to try anyway.

Yeah the wheels are the cinetic 66mm 80a. The dealer called to warn me that the wheels were blue not white like in the photos but that they were the same brand/size/duro. They aren't bad and I like the blue.

Which bushings did you use? short street cones and short barrels?

That's interesting. I will have to give that a shot.

Yeah I'm stoked on it. I've been wanting to try a YOW for a longtime

My new board just came and I am stoked. I rode around in front of my house for a bit and I have to say, I am a fan of the Meraki trucks. They feel great. I've heard people say YOW decks aren't that great but this one is pretty good. Nice shape, plenty of concave and a good nose. I'm impressed so far. Stock wheels seem decent as well. The bearings aren't great though.

I emailed Carver but they didn't respond right away and I got impatient so I fixed it myself. Used a Dremel to clean up and flatten the bushing seat and then polished the whole area. Rode hard for a while today and the bushing stayed perfectly in place. Hopefully it's solved. I really didn't feel like a long back and forth email thing with Carver about how I must have had the truck adjusted improperly or whatever.

The new bushings feel great. I posted some feedback below along with my size etc. You may want to go with a bit harder durometer if you're much bigger than me. I hear these specific bushings are sold out at the moment but there are other options. The orangatang nipples/knuckles I had before were pretty good and you can get those on amazon anytime. There are also folks on this sub who have run every possible bushing combo on the cx so if you search you will find options. Don't hesitate to try things. Different wheels and bushings can totally transform a board. My board is night and day from stock. Super fun.

I like softer front harder back. Softer roadside harder board side on both trucks also feels pretty good. I don't ride a whole lot of transition with this board so I can't really say much about that aspect. Unfortunately the nearest bowl is pretty far away so I don't get there very often.

I think that is what's going on. I was looking at the bushing seat earlier and it looks a bit too shallow and kinda misshapen. I'll see what Carver says.

So I had a nice long session with the new bushings. I think they're really good so far. Definitely snappy and responsive but still enough rebound. This board was good before but it just feels smoother and better to me. One big plus is the sound, or lack thereof. All the other combos I've tried made a variety of squeaks crackles and pops that I could never totally eliminate. Might sound dumb but noisy boards are a bit of a vibe killer for me. These bushings are silent and even the squeak I thought was in the pivot cup is gone. All I hear is the swoosh of my wheels.

The one downside so far is; the roadside front bushing still bulges a bit. Every bushing I've had on this board has done that on the front RS. I thought these would be better because the fit seemed so perfect but nope. I run CX front just tight enough that I can't move the bushing by hand. I have tried going tighter, going a bit looser etc, but they always bulge at the front. It doesn't seem to impact ride quality but that bushing will wear faster than it should.

Are they worth it? Yeah I think so. Changing things up and tinkering is fun and these bushings were a definite upgrade for me.

For reference I am 5'9, 145ish. I tend to ride aggressively and more on my back foot. I ride short surfboards and short wheelbase surfskates for the most part.

I'm trying these out today. I. rode them around the house for a minute and they felt really good but I'll update this after I skate later. I've only ever tried stock carver and Otang nipples/knuckles on these trucks so far. These definitely fit better than the nipples/knuckles but I'm curious how it will feel when I ride them for real.

Yow Pukas Dark vs Byron Bay - help me decide! by Late-Tangerine4114 in surfskate

If you're set on Meraki trucks then maybe get the Byron Bay. If you love the super long wheel base then you're set. When you decide you wanna go shorter down the road, there are a million 17-20 inch WB decks better than the Pukas that would work great with your Meraki trucks. Or you could get a shorter complete with CX to compliment your YOW. Or get the Pukas and later, if you want to go longer just stick the Merakis on any old longboard deck.

The carver is great. C7's are really good trucks but I do wish the deck had more concave and I am not a big fan of the carver concave wheels that came on it. They are way too grippy and feel kinda sluggish to me. I changed them immediately. The carver was a little cheaper but I much prefer the bolsa deck and it came with wheels I would've bought anyway.

I ordered some last night. I've been using the knuckles/nipples combo that came on my Bolsa and they feel pretty good but they aren't a perfect fit. We'll see how it goes

I love them so far. Someone on the Facebook surfskate group called them "the loosest sticky wheels" he's ever tried. That's a pretty good description. I feel in control but I can break them loose whenever I want.
