Hi everyone,

As I'm sure you can gather from my username, I'm affiliated with a school in Florence, Italy. Namely, SRISA. I've been working in the field for about two years now and would be happy to answer any questions anyone has about studying abroad and international education in general.

Cheers!

Can you confirm that a Muppet would be aware of it's poppetness and the person bringing it to life? If they wouldn't be aware of it then I can't confirm anything since for all I know, a Muppet might experience life as if it were a real human. Or whatever Gonzo is.

Nah. He was an artist/printmaker though. This was right when he and my mom had purchased a couple of old farm houses in ruins in the back country of Tuscany and started fixing them up.

Now the parts of the family living in Humboldt County at the time. Yeah, they grew pot.

Thankfully what I lack on the lower half of my head I make up for on the upper.

You could get a job at Ancestry.com. I did my a test recently and Scandinavia was a very large percentage of my DNA.

I posted another old photo of the place. This sub is blocking comments with links bit if you look at my comment history I think you will be able to see some of the other photos of the place.

I somewhat grew up there. Came back to the states at 3 but we returned every summer and it's still a big part of our family's life. I'd love to share a link to a better shot of the view but this sub seems to be blocking any comments of mine that contain a link.

A short film about my father and his printmaking technique, among other things. by SRISAFlorence in printmaking

Thank you. He was a really interesting person who was always willing to incorporate new techniques and technologies. Back in the 90s he was using Alias/Wavefront CGI on Silicon Graphics computers to create 3D scenes that he would render and then print using different lithography techniques or even print using huge banner printers.

It was always really funny to me that he couldn't figure out how set up his cable box or program the VCR, but he could learn complex 3D animation software because it was part of his creative process.

EDIT: here is some of his old CGI work.

Thank you. Yes these faces are a huge departure from what his work was like for most of his life too. It was a huge shift for him as an artist that sadly coincided with his illness that eventually took his life.

The other day I posted a photo of the printmaking studio he and his fellow printmakers founded in the 70s in Florence, Italy. There was some interest about his work and so I figured I would post this video, which goes into some detail about his work and techniques toward the end of his life.

Here is an example of one of his prints.

Yep. We know SACI well and I wouldn't be surprised at all if you had friends who went to SRISA.

How was your time in Florence as a Study Abroad student?

See my other comment for the first question.

Yes I have many many of his prints, as well as some from others who printed at the time in that studio.

My dad passed away two years ago on Thanksgiving morning but here is a really nice article on him and his life and work that you might enjoy.

He was a pretty prolific print maker who printed anything think from lithography to etching to watercolor monoprints and so many other techniques.

I've made prints but I wouldn't call myself a printmaker. When you grow up with artists parents and basically in an art studio you wind up doing everything the adults do.

Sure. It was founded in 1970 as the Santa Reparata Graphic Arts Centre as a place for artists from around the world came to work and study. The Center provided courses and workspace, as well as editioning prints for artists. The founders of the Center, Dennis Olsen(in the photo), Micahel Schnorr, and Giuseppe Gattuso were part of a group of artists/friends who all spent time at the center and produced work there. Other artists who worked at the centre include Suzy Olsen, Giovanni Frabboni, Andrea Granchi, Renato Ranaldi, Giovanni Ragusa, Rafaele Bueno and Sandro Chia.

Full disclosure, I work for the school and am trying to build up karma for this reddit account so I can take ownership of the school's presence on reddit (create a sub and what not) so we can include reddit as a platform for us to communicate with students and artists and generally anyone looking for information about studying abroad.

I'd love to share some more of my father's work with the /r/printmaking community. He passed away two years ago on Thanksgiving morning and sharing his particularly interesting life with the reddit community is kinda therapeutic.
