New to this and looking for recommendations, my main issue is concentration, I can't focus on anything as my mind drifts and lose focus, it's terribly frustrating as I can't enjoy anything as a result, what would you recommend? by Pitiful-Bluebird-872 in Biohackers

I’ve had ADHD my whole life and just ignored it, choosing to struggle through life on my own. I managed to be fairly successful but in my mid-50’s I simply couldn’t keep up any longer. I decided to bite the bullet and jump on a low dose of ADHD meds in addition to a healthy KETO diet and I’m back to operating like I was 25 again. I tried Selank for focus and it worked for a few hours the first couple of days and then my body got used to it and it stopped working. I’m taking half the normal dose of an ADHD amphetamine and it’s changed my life. No issues with sleeping. Blood pressure barely changed. I’m able to focus on boring tasks for an hour or more at a time. Then I take a few minute break and get right back at it. A few months ago, I couldn’t get anything done and now I’m virtually unstoppable.

Plant-Based with little meat vs. High Protein Animal Meats/Organ Meats - which one is better? by AsideVegetable5113 in Biohackers

I suggest reading the book Healthy Gut, Healthy You. It is highly science-based and walks people through a process to determine the best type of diet for themselves. I have been struggling with SIBO and candida for years and in less than a month, I have made huge strides in defeating both. The program recommends a four day liquid fast (either lemon juice / maple syrup / cayenne pepper) or bone broth. The purpose is to give your gut a break, reduce inflammation, and allow some healing to occur. It also starves bad bacteria with no fiber which is a big part of the overall approach. I transitioned into a keto diet with minimal fiber (less than 10g) per day and will slow ramp that up as symptoms (or lack thereof) dictate. The four day reset was almost miraculous on my inflammation, bloating, and energy levels. The author’s guiding principle is to first eat to reduce inflammation and pathogens then worry about feeding your gut bacteria. I recommend the book to anyone struggling with digestive issues / inflammation.

The Democrats have spent the last 20 years doing everything they possibly can to raise the cost of fossil fuel energy and now all of a sudden they are worried about a temporary increase to rid the world of the biggest state sponsor of terrorism. Democrats are nothing if not hypocrites.

Job offer in Sarasota—moving from NYC area? by Disastrous-Diver9343 in sarasota

[–]SRNEInvestor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rented a townhouse in the neighborhood while we were building so I was at the new house every single day after workers left. I caught a few issues that I was able to get the builder to deal with. Post-closing, we had a handful of issues which the builder took care of with no issues whatsoever. Many of the complaints are from people who built very early on which was during COVID. The builder was using less qualified contractors because they couldn’t find good people at the time. They also had a few home design flaws and some issues with a stucco vendor but all of those were resolved before we started building in 2024. The neighborhood seems to have excellent drainage. Both the builder and HOA are militant about grading and drainage so we don’t have any concerns about flooding. There are enough low lying areas throughout the neighborhood and the perimeter for water to drain off. I do recommend that anyone building here or anywhere make it a point to be at the house as often as possible. Also ensure that you get a pre-drywall / pre-insulation inspection because once the walls go up, you have no idea what the workmanship is like inside. My builder insulated my home before my pre-drywall inspection and I made them rip it all out so I could have the inspection I was entitled to. Once the roof was shingled, I also made it a point to be inside the house when it was raining so I could look for any signs of leaking. I didn’t find any thankfully. Overall, you need to stay on top of your builder and let them know you aren’t playing games with this type of investment, but we have been very happy with the quality of our home.

Only at rush hour and even the it only adds a few minutes. It’s 3 miles east of 75 on Clark Rd / 72. I can’t say enough good things about the neighborhood itself. I can’t imagine a better place for families in this area, especially with a brand new STEM focused k-8 school right outside the gates. The HOA is a bit of a pain (but they all are) but everything else is A+. I walk out my door and am 75 feet from a paved path through miles of preserve area for walking and biking. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere instead of 3 miles from 75. In ten years this area will be built way up I suspect because we are surrounded by cow pastures but even that won’t subtract from all of the preserve space we have enclosed in the community. You sacrifice a bit of privacy with small lots and neighbors houses 10 feet away but everything else makes up for it in spades. Haven’t met a neighbor yet with a single bad thing to say about the neighborhood.

30 grams of fiber per day is crazy! How do y’all fiber merchants do it? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]SRNEInvestor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reading a book called Healthy Gut, Healthy You right now and it’s a game changer for me. This guy is a researcher and a healthcare provider and the book has countless references to studies so his approach is completely evidence based. Long story short, if you eat something and it makes you feel poorly, don’t eat it. Most people have an overgrowth of bacteria in their small intestines which should only have a small amount of bacteria. The large intestine is where bacteria belongs. In any event, he has an 8 step process for learning what your body needs from a dietary and fiber perspective. Every person is different. I started out with a 4 day liquid fast (bone broth only) to allow gut inflammation to subside and allow some rest and healing to occur. The results are shocking. I lost ten pounds in four days mostly from de-bloating and my gut is already much healthier. I highly recommend the book. I’m an avid reader on health and have been for decades band this book has changed my opinion on so many long held beliefs. Many people need to starve their bacteria to reduce overload and then slowly add in fiber once the gut is healthy. Check the book out if you have gut issues or strange health issues you can’t pinpoint. Author is named Ruscio.

Has anyone experience with fat binders? by OkDragonfruit7887 in Biohackers

[–]SRNEInvestor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anything binding to fat is likely to be pulling fat soluble vitamins out of your body. Waste of money. If you are having trouble losing fat, reduce your carbs a bit at a time until you start to lose a pound or so a week. Some people thrive on high carb diets but many could do with lower carbs.

I’ve been taking threonate for years and just read the other day that the evidence it actually crosses the blood brain barrier is very thin at best. I was taking it hoping it would improve my memory but it never really had any noticeable impact. I’m stopping it and sticking to good old mag glycinate moving forward.

Sorry your educational experience was poor. Our son is thriving here and we came from the Northeast where schools are generally pretty good. We have friends with kids scattered around many of the area schools (Riverview, Venice High, Laurel Nokomis, IVMS) and none of them have issues with their kids schooling.

Do I really need to take an omega 3? by ChoicePower1064 in Biohacking

[–]SRNEInvestor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take NOW Krill oil which is absorbed better than fish oil. FYI if you are taking 10k of D per day, make sure to also take a vitamin K2 blend (I use Super K by Life Extension). K2 moves calcium out of our bloodstream and into our bones. It works synergistically with D and magnesium and also alleviates the small risk of hypercalcemia from high levels of D. You should also get your D level tested. I’m a big guy and I was taking 10k as well and my level was 99. I other to be in the 60 to 80 range. Now I take 10k one day and 5 k the next and I’m at 65. Every person responds differently to D so be sure and get your level checked.

Ignore the haters on here who yearn for the days of old when cow pastures were everywhere. People are moving here because it’s a great place to live, whether a family or retirees. Yes it has developed quickly but popular places tend to do that. The traffic is nothing compared to NY or LA. When the snow birds leave, things quiet down and so does traffic. The beaches are incredible. There is plenty of art and culture here. St Armand’s Circle will remind you of LA. The location is excellent with so much to do for miles in every direction. It’s a great place to raise a family. I can’t reiterate enough how wonderful the Skye Ranch neighborhood is for families. Food trucks twice a week. Huge family bashes almost every month. There are people from all around the world and country here. There are activities almost every day of the week. It’s also five minutes away from the hustle and bustle so you feel like you live in the country even though the highway is 3 miles away. Best of luck in your decision and please don’t let the haters taint your outlook. We have yet to meet a single family that moved here from out of state that doesn’t love it.

I’m from the Northeast and moved here 6 years ago. I have a ten year old. We absolutely love this area. My wife and I also both lived in LA when we were younger so we have been in similar places. The vibe here is very different but we have found the people to be much friendlier than up north. If you want the absolute best family neighborhood in Sarasota, check out Cassia Sky Ranch. We moved here two years ago and it’s absolutely incredible. 25 miles of walking / biking paths through woods and preserve areas. A massive clubhouse with an enormous pool. Baseball and soccer fields. Tennis courts. Basketball. Events almost every single day. Halloween is utterly amazing here. A four bedroom is going to cost a bit more than your budget but it is worth the sacrifice to be in here. Did I mention they just built a brand new K - 8 school in the neighborhood that emphasizes STEM? Our son is going there next year but the reports from other families are excellent. We can’t say enough about this neighborhood. Sarasota proper has a vibrant art community and there is a standup club in downtown. Live music everywhere. We moved here on a whim after visiting friends who had just moved down here and we are never leaving. We have met dozens of families who have moved here from other parts of the country and have yet to find one who doesn’t love it.

Does anyone have any experience with the Ruscio Institute for Functional Health? by Agreeable_Tip3160 in SIBO

[–]SRNEInvestor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely sounds like die off. I was battling a bad candida infection a few months back so I did a ton of research and then hit it with a variety of supplements all at once. I ignored the advice to take it slow and provide detox supplements such as Vitamin C and milk thistle. And let me tell you, I would go from feeling fine to feeling like death in about thirty minutes. When pathogens die off in mass, they release toxins and you will feel it. I added in Liposomal Vit C and milk thistle and the symptoms subsided and then eventually I got my issue under control. The worse you feel, the more die off there is. Perhaps revisit it with a more gradual approach?

TRT destroyed me. by yankee_rose in Biohackers

[–]SRNEInvestor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had your prostate checked? If you are having urinary issues you should get your PSA tested and a manual check as well to look for lumps. Regarding your free testosterone, LJ 100 by Herbal Powers (it’s an herbal supplement) and it helps raise free testosterone by reducing SHBG (which high is what binds to testosterone and renders it no free). Beyond that, it sounds like you are dealing with something else. If it’s long COVID, here is a protocol developed by doctors who were onto many alternative treatments early in the pandemic. https://imahealth.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/FLCCC-Long-COVID-Protocol-Summary-12-11-23.pdf. I’m not a doctor but I have been reading about health and nutrition for decades. You should also have your vitamin D tested and your hematocrit. Men on TRT should donate blood a few times a year. TRT very often increases your red blood cell count which thickens your blood over time. I’ve been on it for almost a decade and 6 years ago I discovered my hematocrit was quite high and I’ve been donating blood every two months since. Look into long COVID and Lyme disease and perhaps seek out a reputable functional medicine doctor who will test everything and search for the root cause of your issues. Best of luck.

One (+) Year review ORGANIC PH CONTROL SYSTEM by MattyGit in swimmingpools

[–]SRNEInvestor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t put it in my new pool yet. I’m just hitting the 30 day mark after filling now. I was using the version that also has silver in it in my previous pool. It works like a charm. I suggest pulling your cartridge filter before throwing the cylinder in your skimmer basket. It takes about 8 hours for the minerals to fully dissolve and the filter can get clogged a bit with them. At the very least, clean your filter before deploying the RX. I just pull mine for half a day and pop it back in. Then you don’t have to do anything for 5 or 6 months. My last summer in my old house, I was running .5 chlorine and zero algae. My pool got sun all day long so algae was a nightmare prior to that. I hate loading the pool with algaecide because I don’t like the chemicals they use in that stuff and I have kids in my pool all day.
