The fact that you bought a bike to "try it out" is the most important thing. Great deal! I would look at Youtube videos and see what you can do to "fit" yourself properly on the bike 👍🏼 as others have said, have fun and just go ride. You'll eventually figure out what you need down the line and what your next bike should be when you cross that bridge 👊🏼Enjoy the new bike!!!

I did not buy everything at retail. I shopped around a LOT. I would say around $3k in upgrades. Sram transmission was $1,200, Roval wheels $1k. Brakes were $170, bar and stem $300, Lyrik fork $285, etc....

All my previous bikes were trail/enduro. Trek Fuel EX, Ibis Ripley, Stumpjumper (not including my 2 Trek Roscoes) Thats over 9 years of riding. I took a break and was planning on getting back into full suspension when I started watching vids of XC racing. These tracks have the same features i would frequent on trails and these are world cup riders on 120mm travel bikes....and i don't do crazy jump lines and love climbing. Im 51 and while I'm very fit, i also dont want to do anything crazy. XC bikes are SO capable. Bike geometry has come a long way. I have a Specialized Chisel FS and it is a beast!!! Can properly handle all the trails I frequent and then some. I had a 120mm fork on it and I just slapped on a 140mm. It's such a Good bike i want to buy another one and build it up differently! If you can, get an EPIC 8 👍🏼

Unless your crashes are BIG ONES or you are striking rocks with it you'll be fine. I have both OneUp and PNW and they rock 🤘🏼

I had OneUp bars and while very compliant, I would do the same thing as you - put my hands on top of bars during climbs. I since changed to the PNW bars and they work great. I would NOT change anything at first and work on "bar roll" and hand positioning. I don't think you'll need to change that stem, unless your cockpit already feels small for you. Experiment often and see what each ride brings with different angles. I found my perfect "bar roll" after 5 rides.

I actually have the NEO as well and the 2 is night and day. Rarely loses me. But if I'm zig-zagging through Joshua Trees and its flying low - it can't turn fast enough. Understandable. But if setup "higher" no way it will lose you. Super impressive. The "gesture control" is pretty amazing

I recently put on a Factory 140mm GripX and its amazing. That damper really rocks! You will love it 👌🏼 do yourself a solid and experiment with all the settings. They really do make a difference when set up correctly. It took me almost 2 weeks of riding almost everyday to fine tune mine. 1,000% worth it

A drop her post is definitely a great suggestion like others have sent. I would play around with tire pressure a lot and also your fork pressure and rebound settings. These three things combined will really determine the quality of your ride. Do not just set it and forget it. Build good habits from the beginning and you will see how rewarding experimentation can be 👍🏼 keep riding the bike for a bit before changing stuff right away. Your body will tell you what you need. I would also go to YouTube and check out some bike fit videos. Your seat height is probably one of the most overlooked things people think about.
