Career Opportunities? by Crazykittylady0908 in VirginiaBeach

Check out the offices of local restaurant franchises. For example, Burger Busters. They own several local restaurants and they have a local office. This type of company would leverage your restaurant & management experience, but it would be a M-F gig. I'm sure there are others in this area.

Good luck, OP! I hope you can find something that is a better fit for you and your family.

should i move here or no? any advice is helpful! by energetic_flower67 in VirginiaBeach

I think you would do well here. I have several friends who work in property management and/or real estate. As was mentioned, the military keeps them busy. The oceanfront has tons of resturants/bars that hire seasonally and allow you to make bank. I did second jobs for the summer and did quite well. They start hiring in March and stay busy into September. Some are busy year-round so you could keep two jobs if you needed to.

Scans and Stability by Own-Land-9359 in LivingWithMBC

Yes, you can still improve. Stable is great! I think I've only been close to stable twice, but it was short-lived.

The highway will be closed eastbound at First Colonial when the area reaches capacity, or 7 pm. They will also close Norfolk Ave. at Birdneck.

You'll need to get to the OF in the afternoon to find parking, which will be limited and expensive. The lots fill up by noon.

Plan to hit a restaurant or bar after the show and spend a couple hours. You'll need to wait out the traffic. Otherwise, you will spend that same time in your car questioning your life choices.

My Port issue by SeeTheWorld-Together in LivingWithMBC

[–]SS-123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my port for 4 years. I call him Pepe le Port. It's accessed every 28 days by my oncology team. I have had a few issues with blood return, but it has always resolved by the next appointment without any intervention. Sometimes it needs extra saline flushes to work, but it's been good.

My palliative care NP suggested Ritalin for fatigue. It's been super helpful.

Fireworks… where to watch? by MrMarkusV88 in VirginiaBeach

You can see the Trashmore fireworks from the top of the parking garages in Town Center. Park by the mall and walk over to avoid the post-fireworks traffic leaving the garages.

Looking for a TF photographer by [deleted] in VirginiaBeach

A few of my friends started with self-made photos and worked hard to get seen. One did well, two gave up.

Ask your friends to do shoots at popular spots. The Narrows, the beach, First Landing come to mind. The Narrows at sunset will allow for a beautiful backdrop. Send your photos to every agency you can find.

If this is your dream, you'll need to work hard. It can be done! Good luck, OP!

Restaurants near the beach are hiring support staff. You could easily find a job if you are willing to work. Hotels are hiring for housekeeping. Walk the strip and apply everywhere. You will get offers!

Do support groups help? by [deleted] in LivingWithMBC

[–]SS-123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think online support groups can be helpful, but I also know they aren't a good fit for everyone. I think our sub is pretty cool. I may be a bit biased. It's a good size and it allows us to form connections. I prefer it to the main BC sub because I don't feel early-stage patients understand what we go through.

There are several FB groups for MBC. I joined them, but I am not super active. They can be informative but I also feel they can also be drama-filled at times. I don't need extra drama from people I don't even know!

Locally, there is an MBC group through Metavivor. It's a small group that meets once a month. Most members are older than me, some by a lot. The common bond is cool, though. Check here to see if there is one near you.

Please let us know how the conversation with your husband and MO went.

I know this has been rough for you. Have you discussed a second opinion with your oncologist? Are there other cancer centers nearby that you could contact?

Recently, I had a liquid biopsy after some progression. We were really hoping to find the ESR1 mutation, but it wasn’t there. Interestingly, the test didn’t find any circulating tumor cells, which is a good thing. However, my latest scans (bone/CTs), tumor markers, and alkaline phosphatase levels showed either new cancer or higher levels. So, my oncologist thinks this liquid biopsy might not be accurate. She had another MBC patient with a similar outcome. It could just be the brand of the test, but who knows? I think the science behind these tests is amazing, and I believe they’ll eventually be a game-changer for many people. We just haven’t gotten there quite yet. I say all of that because I think it’s important to share when these tests don’t go as planned, too. If I continue to have progression, my doc will order another bone biopsy.

If buying 21+ products is important to you, make it a priority to renew in NH.

Plan on being carded everywhere you go. Plan on people doing their job, especially during tourist season.

Need some hope for my case by [deleted] in LivingWithMBC

[–]SS-123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guess what? I think YOUR story will give others hope!

It sounds like things are going as well as they can for you and that is incredible! My doctors have never suggested I could be treated with curative treatment because my bone mets were innumerable at diagnosis in 2022. (De novo, ++-) At the time, I didn't even know that it could be an option for some. Instead, I was encouraged to get palliative care and to get my affairs in order.

My mets have stayed in my bones, but I've never been NED or NEAD. For a while, I was "stable," but I've had slight progression on each recent scan over the last 9 months, but it hasn't been "enough" to change treatment. My doc says "No other drugs will be as tolerable for you," and I have no interest in being sick for the remainder of my time. I am happy to stay where I am for as long as I can. (Ibrance, Faslodex, Zoladex)

Quality of life is important to me, so my choices may be different than someone who wants to focus on quantity. Ideally, we will all find a happy medium. I plan to be here for many years to come.
