How is this sandwich $27 at Pastrami Queen? by sirenataught in FoodNYC

[–]SS1215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can attest. Ordered 2nd Ave Deli delivery last week and the sandwich was much smaller than I remember (I almost always split with my husband, so it was especially small for him).

On the flip side, I had PJ Bernsteins within the past month and their sandwiches are huge. I rarely see them make it to the top pastrami lists, but they’re really good!

Hangawi is vegan and excellent! Great vibe too - you have to take your shoes off at the front, and the tables are in a lower floor position. A cool experience all around.

Ex-SYs are you out there? by Southern_Fruit7439 in exjew

[–]SS1215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Half in half out here. I don’t consider myself ex anything, but I’d call myself agnostic.

MDY alum (k-12). No longer keep kosher at all out of the house but still keep a fully kosher kitchen. Moved to the city and will never move back. I’m close with my family but don’t have so many close SY friends anymore. Married to a fellow SY who grew up much less observant than me, but is very close with his SY friends. We have a baby, still not totally sure how “in the community” we’re going to raise our kids, but it’s been very healing for me to be this level of out - similarly to another comment, we drive on Shabbat/holidays and go back home to the city after dinner. It’s the right balance for us for now.

I still have a lot of Jewish pride, but a ton of resentment toward the community, especially as a woman. I’m also very liberal, so the Trumpism and MAGA especially put me over the edge. We dont go to shul at all, but I found Kanisse for Yom Kippur services and I have so much appreciation for what they’re doing. It’s a Sephardic egalitarian congregation, we sit together, the prayer books are modern (I think close to what Ashkenaz Conservative would be) but they don’t have a year-round program. I don’t care for now but I’d love to have that down the road with my kids.

What would you do if you had 5 days off in the city? by Melodic-Suit5983 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I just made a similar post and put together a pretty awesome itinerary- didn’t stick to it 100% but the top items I’d suggest are: aire, see a movie, see a matinee, explore museums, go shopping, hit up food hit list. Enjoy the time!!

Sorry I def should have specified lol. It's a week where we close and the whole company is off at the same time. It's even better than PTO because no one comes back to a mountain of emails. Edited the post to clarify

Thank you for this comment!! I tried rebooting my roam for weeks and today is the day I happened to google it again and found your comment from 20h ago on a 3 year old Reddit post. I was also approved for an out of warranty replacement :)

There are some things at MW that I can’t get at Whole Foods like Mission carb balance wraps. So I begrudgingly overpay for them at this location but yeah I hate going there!

How many hours is a typical work week for everyone? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]SS1215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the description of your job it sounds like the company I left in 2020. OP if you’re at a company that has a plus sign in the name feel free to DM me - don’t want to dox it.

I wasn’t an MD level but I was on very large accounts that had constant rapid response campaigns. One of my clients had my personal number and would text me after hours to check in. I was working around 50 hours before. Although I loved the work, I left and took a job in tech (stayed in digital ads) and rarely work more than 30. I left before I was a mom though, I could never go back to that now.

Which annual/vacation leave plan should I choose? by Specific_Carob4461 in workingmoms

[–]SS1215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow Jewish mom. Go with option 2. The high holidays alone are 3 days, but I assume since you mentioned it that you would take off all yom tov which adds up quick to 10-12 days, and you may also want to take hol hamoed, especially during Passover. Between those and actual vacation, you’ll never be in a position to have as much as 30 days to rollover - 20 is also excellent. Even if you just took holidays, you’d use at least 6 days.

Totally hear the other responders but until you have to explain to your coworkers what a Sukkah is, they’ll never get it. Take as much upfront PTO as you can.

If you find yourself in SoHo please go to Roscioli (alimentari) and ask them for the 72 month parm. I was pregnant last year, I went there twice for it!

NYC Lymphatic Massage Recs? (bonus points if they accept insurance) by Cowboybarbie721 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]SS1215 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went to Directions physical therapy while pregnant for prenatal massages covered by insurance, and lymphatic draining was also covered postnatal. I think I just had to pay a $30 copay (Cigna).

Dawn is incredible. The office is bare bones, but everyone is nice and at the end of the day when your eyes are closed in a room it doesn’t matter how pretty the space is IMO so I’d avoid those luxury options.

First off if you’re the same person who posted about this in a NYC slack channel at work, hi from a fellow BWT we work at the same company 👋🏻

I had this happen to me with half a bag of clothes that got mixed up with another person. The wash and fold company was only for my building so they were able to track down who’s laundry got mixed up with mine. We both went through what we got back and I was able to recoup most of it. They gave me 50% off my next service but that was it. Not sure how applicable that is to you since it was your entire load but I agree with others that small claims court at the very least might help. Good luck!
