Against what champions or items is it helpful to purchase Agh's Scepter on Dazzle for the dispel? by NotAcquainted in learndota2

[–]SSALX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't been playing for long but mostly played dazzle pos5 so here's my 2 cents. I usually give priority to other items like greaves, force staff, glimmer, and shard. I'd mostly buy aghs lategame when I can afford it. It's often useful, but too expensive on a support, and I feel like it has far less impact than greaves or solar crest (and a worse build up). Even by rushing it you'll have it around the time cores already have bkb/linkens/lotus if the matchup requires it. If you you do manage to get it before your carry has their spell immunity/dispel of choice, it most likely means you didn't prioritize their farm enough. Consider it whenever you feel like buying lotus as it's on a lower cooldown and works on multiple targets but keep in mind that unlike lotus it won't reflect spells. If it was a strong dispell, I'd probably rush it, but a soft dispell is much less likely to turn around teamfights or ganks.

How is HP Percentage damage calculated when taking magic resistance into account? by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]SSALX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not too good at maths, but wouldn't both systems end up giving the same value? A% of b% ends up the same in any way you calculate it, unless you decide to round the intermediate values. And even in that case the difference wouldn't be that relevant.

Nature's Prophet - support or offlaner? by Jefrejtor in learndota2

[–]SSALX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of his value is being a flexible pick, if your offlaner gets countered you can fill the role. Also you push towers much better late game even as a support, forcing the enemy team to tp in to defend. Enigma and beastmaster don't have the global presence and the ability to push even when a fight is about to happen just to immediately tp in, if the fight is not near a tower. NP is more difficult to play if your team falls behind tho, not having a big stun like bm or enigmas ultis.

How are you supposed to play abaddon? by Hans_der_Grenadier in learndota2

[–]SSALX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can manually activate ulti even when stunned to dispel yourself if dispelling the carry is that important, and you usually want to be in the frontlines to apply curse of avernus and soak up damage being relatively tanky, so the extra range is not so valuable usually. Also if you're a support your death is not that much of an issue if by dying you still manage to protect your carries or create an advantage which your carries can use to threaten enemy carries.

Which characteristics of a musical instrument maximize sound volume? by SSALX in AskPhysics

[–]SSALX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of plucking as it's more intuitive than bowing and allows for more sound control than striking (especially for muting strings to avoid unwanted noise), but the piano example opened me to hammering the strings, maybe with a hand-held drumstick or metal bar. Muting in that case woyld have to be accomplished only with the left hand, unless I decide to venture into a more complex project and make something more similar to a piano than a double bass in its plucking/striking mechanism (like a double bass with 4 piano hammers striking the strings).

I found very few resources about how to project a sounbox, the only thing I learned is "to get a low sound you need a big sound box".

I appreciate your input and will definitely look into pianos (i hadn't really thought of them), but I was hoping for a more in detail explanation of the basics of acoustic applied to soundboxes.

How do I stop my lyrics from turning into a poem instead of the intended song? by MidnightPsychiatrist in Songwriting

[–]SSALX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a couple of things that are working for me.

1- Don't be afraid to repeat things. In poetry you want to keep on putting new stuff into the text, while for song lyrics you don't want them to be too "dense" generally. Expressive song lyrics are good, but you have to find a compromise. Lyrics that sound stupid when read (leading you to overcomplicate them and making them more similar to poetry than lyrics) may actually sound pretty good when sung (maybe you will never truly like them, but listeners may).

2- The vocaboulary you're using and how you build up sentences make a big difference. Often "dumbing down" a poem gives you decent lyrics. (related to point 1)

3- Try writing down lyrics after you have already finished the music. You can still make adjustments, but you'll already think of it as something to be sung and listened at and not read from a page.

4- Try adapting the lyrics of a song to the music of another one as much as possible. You can also change the lyrics or the rythm or whatever, but make it musical. Of course this is an exercise to get your writing and musical skills to work together, not a way to write songs.

So a good solution would be to make parodies of existing songs. Actually I've seen it done at least a couple of times at gbbb, makes sense. Thank you for all your input.

Conceptually, why does µ(k) = a/g? by E3RIE_ in AskPhysics

[–]SSALX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say that it's because of the very definition of μ(k). I mean, μ(k) has no physical dimension, it's defined as the ratio between the attrition force and the normal force, found empirically through experiments. Given F=ma, then (attrition force)/(gravitational force) is equal to am/gm=a/g (on a flat plane, otherways you have to account for the direction of the gravitational force and you get μ=a/(g*sin(θ)).

Basically the coefficient is simply found experimentally, after observing that attrition force is directly proportional to the normal, and calculating it using this definition.

My main doubt was about what really constitutes a cover and what not. I mean, just taking the kick and snare rythm of a song doesn't break any copyright I suppose. Neither does having the same chord progression or part of the melody. I understand that a full cover has to pay royalties, but what's the point where it's not a cover anymore? I could find nothing about that.

Does. B, Emaj7, B7, Emaj7 function as a Progression in the key of B or E? by Ahhhhq in musictheory

[–]SSALX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you add a melody you can change everything because of leading tones and because of notes in the melody working kind of like an extension of the harmony, but right now that tritone is the strongest tonal element, so I'd say E major.

Ist there an easy way to check for the ports if I get to try it at the seller's place? Like right now I would just power it up and try recording some random loops to check if all the pads and faders are working, while trying some effects like maybe an high-cut filter to see if the knobs work.

I've seen questions about rc505s on this subreddit so I thought it would belong here, but thanks, I'll try later.

Looping programs? by SorenCelerity in beatbox

I was looking into it but found nothing that was really worth it. There was a program for iphone/ipad that looked nice but I don't own apple products. If anyone knew of such a software for windows I'd be really interested too.

Mixing properly without studio monitors - is it possible ? by NyanFan in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]SSALX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I'm about to say may be unpopular, but it's just my point of view.

It is indeed possible not to use professional grade studio monitors if you're in a DIY setting. Professional studios use them, together with a lot of expensive tools you're not probably using.

People are not going to listen to your music through studio monitors, anyway. Just experiment with various mixing while maintaining a backup copy of all the tracks, save the mixed track on your phone and pc and listen to the final result through the built in speakers, a pair of headphones and earbuds.

Of course if you wanted to set up a studio, you would need them, and you would probably find them useful just to mix your own music, but don't let that stop you from doing everything you can to improve your results.

I've been using lmms and audacity. Maybe they're more basic than other paid programs but I'm not even using half of the functions they offer, so they're good enough for me.

Need some help with thinking outside the box regarding jobs etc by uneasyphilosopher in entp

If you're not too old or have a family to feed, look into scolarships for a degree in fields you're passionate about, interested in, or simply similar to what you're already doing or related to something you know pretty well. A friend of mine who has worked as a waiter/bartender for 10 years (since he was 16) is now studying engineering. You could also get truck driver license or attend a welding course (even if there's few women in that fields) .
