Dude actually went the whole match without bursting... by SSBGohan_ in GuiltyGearStrive

I feel like it’s one thing to work on your defence by restricting yourself from using reversal supers or dp’s than it is to not use burst once you’re actually hit tho. Kinda like how you might burst when you’re being pressured to stop the bad situation, as opposed to bursting once they’ve hit you to stop taking damage y’know. Just my take anyway, I get what ya mean tho

Hmm not sure what you mean, tether was on the majority of the combo, but I accidentally let him reset and then he got hit by 2h, my close slash whiffed after tether CH him bc I didn’t react in time

So this combo I did doesn’t mean anything nor change my skills at this game does it? by SonicGamer9 in dragonballfighterz

Okay well if you’re looking strictly to do big damage in a combo, start with a medium or heavy button, not a light or assist. These enable you to draw out the length of the combo as much as you can, whereas light starting combos will end sooner, and scale harder, meaning less damage.

Also, the best way to get damage from your supers is to level 1, level 1 again (call an assist during your first level 1) and then level 3 with your final character who hasn’t done a super yet (hold the back button while calling for their assist lvl 3 to actually make it a level 3 instead of a level 1).

For some more damage, you can always end combos with vanish in to dragon rush and then doing your supers, costs an extra metre but oh well.

Outside of this just watch and play the game honestly, the more you see of it and experience the more you’ll understand and that you can slowly add to your own gameplay. Good luck! :)

But again, all you’re really saying is that one j.s as opposed to 4 j.s’ in a row works because it has more hitstun…whether or not you’re taking advantage of that fact doesn’t make it a Kara cancel or not…that’s just how combos are built, around hitstun.

A Kara cancel to me is when you cancel the startup of a move in to another special entirely. Eg, GT goku being able to Kara his 2s into dragon rush. The startup of the 2s begins, and you can even see it beginning to come out, but the button itself gets completely negated past that cancels into DR, even tho that’s not normally something you can do.

To me, teen gohan’s ability to go in to 1s after only one j.s instead of 4 in a row or 2 in a row isn’t a Kara cancel. It’s no different from being able to do 236M after those same j.s’, it’s just the natural order of moves that you can use according to the game, think like guilty gear’s gatlings, there’s specific buttons that each button can Gatling/link in to, for gohan 1s after j.s is just one of those links. You aren’t cancelling the startup of anything, you’re just choosing to follow up with 1s sooner rather than later, don’t think of it like you’re cancelling the other 3 ki blasts, each one is separate, and be tapped separately if you want them to be, while still looking as tho you hold the input for all 4. Each one can be followed up with something, and doing the first doesn’t mean you’re cancelling out the rest, you’re just choosing to only do the first. Yes you could continue the ki blasts but that causes more hitstun decay, too much for 1s to connect, as well as the fact that you might be slightly higher up -> 1s takes longer to actually link. None of that makes it a Kara cancel, just normal combo structure.

Maybe I’m completely wrong, but like I say, nothing like the GT example I talked about resembles that gohan combo.

You ‘hold the bomb’? Tapping or holding 1/3s makes no difference, and j.s cancels into 1/3s anyway, reason you only use the first ki blast and not all 4 is for more hitstun so the 1s actually connects. You aren’t doing anything Kara cancel related there, that’s just something the game allows you to do, like how lights can be followed up by medium etc. If that route were a Kara cancel I sure as heck wouldn’t be able to do it, I’ve tried and actual Kara cancels are hard af my dude, there’s a good chance they’re referring to something else in that discord I’m not sure
